OVERVIEW
In this section you will find information on the following services:
VPN Remote User:
• Secure VPN Remote User allows your employees to access your business information
while out of the office, using any Internet connection.
VPN On-Net:

Connects multiple sites that are served by Cbeyond. It creates a secure network
for sharing files and data.
Grants access to utilize the resources of the other connected sites, just as
though they were wired to a single physical network.
• Eliminates the need for multiple dedicated lines, PVCs and on-site routers.
VPN Off-net:

Creates secure and encrypted connections between one location that has Cbeyond
service and one or more that do not. Allows you to exchange information with remote office locations with
the same security and reliability as your on-network communications.
Allows every off-network site connected to the VPN to see the resources of other
connected sites, just as though they were wired to a single physical network. Secure
VPN eliminates the need for multiple dedicated lines, PVCs and on-site routers.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS.
How to setup > Setting up your Remote User VPN Service is a three part process.
1.login to CbeyondOnline to establish Remote User service. This is done by setting up your
first individual Remote User employee account.
2.In a few days, you will receive an email from Customer Care when your Remote User service
is available.
>If you have a Firewall or Router there are actions that you need to take to route the VPN traffic
to your internal network. Your LAN vendor should have done this at the time of install.
If you have questions, please contact your LAN vendor to verify this activity has occurred.
Required actions are listed below or can be accessed in CbeyondOnline’s FIND-IT-FAST Answer Center

3.The VPN user will need to configure the device(s) you will be connecting to on your company’s network.

> Establish VPN Remote User service:

Login to CbeyondOnline
(CbeyondOnline Username and password
required).
Select My Services > Virtual Private
Network (VPN).

> Once you click save, a Service Request will
be generated to establish your VPN Remote
User service.

Care when your Remote User service is
available.
Configure VPN network client.
The user you set up will receive an email with their username and password. This email will contain
a link to the instructions for that user to configure the VPN network client.

Required Actions for Firewalls or Routers.

> Do you have a router or firewall?
If yes, proceed to step 2.
If no, proceed to Helpful Tips.

> If you have a Router or Firewall your LAN vendor must call Cbeyond with the IP address of the device
and the private IP Address Scheme behind the device to set up the route. Next your vendor will setup a
default or static route to allow traffic from your remote on-net networks and for Remote User,
allow traffic from Cbeyond (10.255.100.0 255.255.255.0).

How to setup
Step

> Cbeyond sets up the VPN On-Net connections to the Cbeyond Network.

> Do you have Router or Firewall? If so, you need to first contact Cbeyond with the following information:
• Your Field Service Provider or your LAN vendor must call Cbeyond and provide the IP address
of the device and the private IP Address Scheme behind the device.

> If yes to step 2: Your LAN vendor will need to update your firewall to setup a default or static route
to allow traffic from your remote on-net networks and if you have the Remote User service, allow traffic
from 10.255.100.0 255.255.255.0.

> Follow the steps below to share files and folders or map a network drive. Cbeyond is unable to provide
instructions on setting up shared applications, as each company may have different needs and wants for their
shared services.

> To access resources on your office network over your remote VPN connection, please work with your
company’s IS Administrator or LAN vendor to assist you with access and to obtain the appropriate IP
Address or routing information for each resource.
For example
To access Windows shared network resources
on your office VPN.
Click on START and select RUN.
Type the IP Address of the resource you wish
to connect to (in the format \\IPaddress)
and click OK to open.

> To map a network drive, open a MY
COMPUTER from your desktop (or start
menu in XP). Select the TOOLS menu from
the menu at the top and click the MAP
NETWORK DRIVE option.
You will be provided the following screen.
Here you may select the desired drive letter
for the share and specify the path for desired
computer and share name in the format of
IP Address\SHARE_NAME preceded by two
back slashes \\.

> To share a folder, locate the folder on the hard drive of the computer with the needed
resource. Right click the folder and click on sharing.
Select the SHARE THIS FOLDER option.
Type in the desired share name in the
SHARE NAME field and click apply.
You may also choose to setup
permissions on the shared folder, although
it is recommended the LAN/Computer
vendor is available to setup the permissions
to ensure the desired security is enabled.
Summary > On-net VPN is a safe and secure way to access and share files and services between two or
more Cbeyond hosted networks. The connection is always on and requires no action by the
client to start the VPN connection.
Cbeyond recommends that you involve your local LAN or Computer technician to ensure
the shares and services are setup and that any additional security settings are enabled if the
resources are not to be accessed by everyone.
Important Note: We do not support Name Routing resolution.
