Aesthetic Solutions ❚ Volume 4, Issue 1 2009 ❚ www.aesthetic–solutions.com
Finally, something to bat an eyelash about!
s part of our many clinical trials, Aesthetic Solutions has recently
helped an innovative new product gain FDA approval. We are proud
to announce the arrival of LATISSE™. Latisse is the first and only
science-based product approved by the FDA to increase the growth of your
eyelashes – making them longer, thicker, darker.
Available only through a doctor, LATISSE™ is a once-daily prescription treatment applied to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile,
single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. LATISSE™ users can expect to
experience longer, fuller and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with
full results in 16 weeks. Bimatoprost is the active ingredient in LATISSE™.
The FDA first approved Bimatoprost in 2001 as Lumigan, an ophthalmic
solution product, used to treat lower intraocular pressure in patients diagnosed with glaucoma. Subsequently, many of these patients also found that it
increased the length, thickness, and darkness of their eyelashes.
Dr. Sue Ellen Cox was recently interviewed about this revolutionary new
product by local television news channel NBC-17. “We are very excited to
offer our patients LATISSE™ because it is clinically proven and based
entirely on scientific evidence,” says Dr. Cox. “There are some clinical trials
where you’re not sure if the patient is getting the active medication or
getting placebo. This clinical trial was very, very clear.”
Introducing
Latisse® for full lashes
BEFORE
AFTER 16 WEEKS
Linda Smith, one of our study participants who joined
Dr. Cox on NBC 17, was more than willing to share her
fond memories of the experience. “After about maybe a
month, or a little more, I thought that my eyelashes were
touching the inside of my sunglasses,” she says. “This product is
wonderful and it absolutely works.” Until now, mascara and false
lashes were the only way to make eyelashes appear longer, thicker,
and darker. With LATISSE™, you can now grow your lashes longer,
thicker and darker and keep the desired look as long as you like. The interview on NBC-17 aired early February 2009 and can be seen in its entirety on
our website home page, www.aesthetic-solutions.com.
Make an appointment for a brief consultation with one of our physicians or
nurse practitioner to receive the product counseling and prescription.
LATISSE™ is available for purchase at our office, or you may take the
prescription to a pharmacy. To maintain its effects, continued treatment
with LATTISE™ is necessary. If use of LATISSE™ is discontinued, eyelashes
will gradually return to their prior state over a period of weeks to months
(average eyelash hair growth cycle).
Aesthetic Solutions was one of the few clinical trial sites across the country
to participate in the 16-week FDA study.
Consultation fee: $80
LATISSE™: $120 per kit or $200 for 2 kits
Aging is mandatory; Aging gracefully is optional
ot everyone will age the same way
nor at the same pace. Aging differences come from genetic
predispositions as well as environmental
aging factors such as smoking, exposure
to sunlight and stressors of daily life.
What you do in your 20s will reflect how
you look in your 40s, 50s, and beyond.
your face in your 30s
In some people aging simply doesn’t
affect the skin as much, where as others
may have conditions where signs of aging
show earlier, like hereditary bags underneath the eyes. Despite all the factors of
aging there are still certain inevitable
changes that are going to take place as the
years go by. Frown lines and wrinkles
appear, the jawline sags, skin loses its
elasticity and even your bone structure
will change.
Creases may form in the triangular area
between your nose and the corners of
your mouth.
By knowing what to expect you can take
steps to reduce or delay the impact of
facial aging and take control of how the
years unfold. Whether you’re making the
decision to move from topical anti-aging
products to injectables, or from filler to
facelift, our physicians will help you
through the decision-making process by
explaining all your options and offer solutions to suit your personal aging concerns
and comfort level.
your face in your 20s
You begin to lose “baby fat” as you head
into your 20s. Early signs of aging may
appear, wrinkles caused by facial movement such as frown lines and “crow’s feet.”
■ COURSE OF ACTION
Begin using retinol-based skin care products. Botox is a great option to help
prevent the development of permanent
wrinkles in your 30’s and 40’s.
While you still look youthful, you may
notice your skin looks dull and less radiant. Previous sun damage may exacerbate
the start of small brown spots and you
may develop dilated blood vessels, particularly around the sides of your nose.
■ COURSE OF ACTION
Give skin an overall boost with a
Vibraderm or chemical peel. If brown
spots are your problem, a chemical peel,
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or the Alex
laser are great treatment options. The
Vbeam laser is the the best treatment for
visible blood vessels on the face. Starting
Botox and fillers like Restylane and
Juvederm at this age can actually decrease
the progression of aging and in the long
run you may need less to maintain a
youthful appearance.
Eyes: Under eye circles, crow’s feet, and
slight drooping of the upper eyelid can all
be corrected with Botox and filler. When
the upper lid has enough excess skin to
form a permanent hood, nothing short of
blepharoplasty or brow lift will do the
trick. Either of these two surgeries
combined with periocular CO2 laser skin
resurfacing complete the rejuvenated
appearance of the delicate eye area.
your face in your 40s
As you enter your 40s, lines begin to
appear around the upper lip — and if you
smoke, they’ll come faster and deeper. Be
prepared to see more wrinkles in your
forehead and crow’s feet around your
eyes, plus a deepening of the smile lines.
BEFORE AND AFTER FACELIFT
■ COURSE OF ACTION
To treat lines on the upper lip, the collaborative effects of Botox and fillers can
work well. Fraxel laser treatments are
great for skin repair on the face, neck,
arms and hands.
Lips, Cheeks and Chin: Filler can restore
lost volume in the cheeks and chin and is
best to help maintain a youthful fullness in
the lips. But for better-defined bone structure with longer-lasting results, you may
want to consider cheek or chin implant.
Skin tone and texture: C02 laser resurfacing erases age spots, reduces deep set
wrinkles and tightens the skin to improve
overall appearance. The results are
dramatic but CO2 also bears significant
downtime. Less invasive procedures
would include Fraxel laser, IPL Photo
rejuvenation, and Alex laser.

spring skin
your face in your 50s
and beyond
The breakdown of the support structures, collagen and elastin fibers, start to
show by the drooping of the face, loose
skin, and loss of fat which also contribute
to a loss of structure, as well as making
skin thinner and more translucent. This
can cause blood vessels just below the
surface to look more prominent and
your skin to look discolored. Brown
spots that went untreated in the past will
become more prominent now, while new
ones continue to appear.
■ COURSE OF ACTION
If you haven’t tried Botox, wrinkle filling
injections, or Fraxel laser treatments in
the past, this is the decade to jump into
the fountain of youth.
Neck: Many women spend time and
money for facial treatments and procedures but neglect their neck! The neck
area may reveal not just your true age
but may make you look older than you
actually are. A facelift is the solution for
sagging jowls and unsightly “turkey
neck.”
Facelift is a surgical procedure designed
to improve the most visible signs of
aging by removing excess fat, tightening
underlying facial muscles and redraping
the skin of your face and neck. Facelift
can be performed alone, however in
many instances it is used in combination
with other cosmetic procedures such as
eyelid reduction, browlift and laser
resurfacing.
If skin elasticity is not the problem, but
rather neckbands (cordlike muscles that
jut out vertically from the neck to the
chest), Botox is a quick and easy, but
temporary, fix to relax the taut culprits.
a fresh start
he number one goal of spring skincare is repair and renewal. During
winter, cold weather outside and increased use of central air heating
inside leave dry skin flaky and irritated and can even increase breakouts
in oily skin due to imbalance. Warmer weather gives us the opportunity to
undo winter’s harsh effects, improve skin quality and remove winter’s buildup of dry layers to reveal fresh, healthy new skin!
NEW SKIN REPAIR
ONE SIZE FITS ALL
The newest line of products at Aesthetic
Solutions is NeoCutis. Its claim to fame
is an ingredient called PSP, or Processed
Skin Proteins, originally developed to
treat pediatric burn victims. PSP has the
cosmetic benefit of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,
improving skin texture and tone, and
enhancing skin firmness. It is noncomedogenic, dermatologist tested, free
of color additives and fragrance free.
For this reason NeoCutis products
appeal to both men and women of all
age groups and skin types. Every
NeoCutis product can be used daily,
promoting healing after procedures such
as chemical peels, vibraderm, laser
and/or light treatments and cosmetic
surgery.
Exfoliation of the skin is the most basic
maintenance to improve the look of
healthy skin. Turning over skin cells to
encourage new growth is essential
whether you have dry, combination, or
oily skin. It is recommended for all ages,
not to mention those procedure newbies
and junkies alike. Exfoliation sheds the
build-up of dead skin cells, pure and
simple. This new exposed skin is more
receptive to topical treatments such as
moisturizers, anti-acne and anti-aging
medications. Without blockage, pores
are kept clear, dry dull flaky skin is
removed, evening out skin tone.
Bio-Cream—a moisturizing cream with
PSP that immediately smoothes skin
texture without the slightest feel of
greasiness.
Hyalis—a refining hyaluronic acid
serum that plumps and provides added
moisture.
Journee—a daytime treatment with PSP,
anti-oxidants, and sunscreen to treat
existing cell damage while simultaneously preventing over-exposure.
Lumiere—an intense eye treatment with
the highest concentration of PSP to
firm, hydrate, and alleviate puffiness.
Ophthalmologist tested for safety.
At Aesthetic Solutions we use the
Vibraderm machine instead of microdermabrasion to achieve this result. The
Vibraderm is less messy without the
abrasive crystals than the traditional
Microdermabrasion treatment, and a
more pleasant patient experience.
Regular Vibraderm treatments are
recommended to maintain a healthy
glow and smooth texture. It can also
improve the results of other clinical
procedures such as laser treatments and
chemical peels when used in combination or as an after therapy.
