TR E A T ME N T O F WR I N KLE S WI T H BO TO X Not all wrinkles are caused by sun damage and aging. Some are due to repeated facial expressions, such as the so-called "frown lines" between the eyebrows, "crow's feet" from squinting, and the horizontal lines across the forehead from raising the eyebrows. These wrinkles not only may make a person appear older, but may also give one the appearance of being frustrated, worried, or angry. Botox provides a safe (FDA-approved), effective, and easy way to reduce these wrinkles. A small amount of medication is injected into a few sites just beneath the skin. This relaxes the surface muscles, easing and smoothing the lines that the muscle action has created. Side effects are very uncommon and may include soreness or mild swelling at the injection area, transient headache, temporary numbness, or bruising. Very rarely, slight drooping of an eyelid may occur; this is not permanent and may be treated with medicated eye drops until it resolves (typically in 2 weeks). For some patients, one pleasant effect has been the relief or even elimination of migraine and/or tension headaches for several months after treatment with Botox for wrinkles. In most patients, the beneficial effects of Botox treatment of facial lines last for threefour months. Many people who undergo repeated treatments find that the beneficial effects of Botox tend to last longer with subsequent treatments. People frequently comment that Botox not only smoothens their wrinkles, but it also gives them a more cheerful, positive expression, which is certainly a compliment to anyone's appearance and well being. How much does it cost? For the upper face, approximately $11/unit of medication For most patients, treatments are $220 and up Typical cost: frown lines forehead lines forehead & frown lines crow’s feet $220-270 $100-200 $280-375 $120-240 East Valley Dermatology Center, 1100 S.
