CPT coding
Indirect calorimetry (the procedure performed by the ReeVue),
is CPT coded and is covered by Medicare and most insurance providers.

Medicare Nationally Covered Indications currently reads:
"Services performed in connection with the treatment of obesity are covered by Medicare when
such services are an integral and necessary part of a course of treatment for diseases such
as hypothyroidism, Cushing's disease, hypothalamic lesions, cardiovascular diseases,
respiratory diseases, diabetes, and hypertension."
The common codes associated with these disease states include:

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the REEVUE
How does the REEVUE measure metabolic rate?
The human body consumes a fixed amount of oxygen per calorie burned. The REEVUE™
measures the amount of oxygen the patient's body is consuming. Based on the measured
oxygen consumption rate, the REEVUE then calculates the Resting Energy Expenditure 1
(REE). Or, in other words, the exact amount of calories that person is burning.
What are the steps of a REEVUE test?
The REEVUE™ automatically calibrates itself, so there is no need to configure the unit prior to each
test. First, ask the patient to relax in a seated or reclining position. The patient then breathes
into a mask or mouthpiece for about 10 minutes. When the test is complete the R EEVUE ™prints a
detailed report of the results. Perhaps the simplest indirect calorimeter ever built!
For what patients is the REEVUE contraindicated?
The REEV UE™ is not intended for use on ventilated patients, patients unable to tolerate being off
supplemental oxygen for 20 minutes, or where an RQ is required. This was done to keep the
product simple and affordable for caregivers that simply require an accurate Resting Energy
Expenditure for determining caloric requirements.
How many tests can you do on the machine?
The REEV UE™ will perform an unlimited number of tests.
Can the disposable hose be used more than once?
The disposable hose (the MetaBreather™) is for single patient use only. It cannot be effectively
cleaned between patients and the valves within the mouthpiece will not maintain accuracy
through multiple tests.
Is certification required to operate the machine?
No certification is required. With its simple one button operation, anyone can be trained to
operate the REEV UE™ in just minutes.
What kind of warranty accompanies these products?
All KORR™ products come with a full 1 year warranty which includes all parts, labor, and
shipping. A renewable warranty is available to purchase for subsequent years.
What happens if the machine needs any maintenance?
All maintenance and repairs are performed at KORR™ Medical’s Service Center in Salt Lake
City, Utah. It is recommended (but not required) that the devices be sent in every 20-24
months for recalibration.
REE is calculated using the W eir equation with an assumed RQ=0.83. REE = 6.925*V O2 . See "W eir, J.B., New Methods
for Calculating Metabolic Rate with Special Reference to Protein Metabolism. J. Physiology, 1949 109: pages 1-9"
