About Us
Nestled in Northern Connecticut, Johnson Memorial Medical Center is a fully integrated
hospital system that employs about 1,000 staff members from the surrounding
communities. Johnson Memorial Medical Center is the non-profit parent company of
Johnson Memorial Hospital, which is based in Stafford Springs with outpatient
departments in Enfield– the Evergreen Health Care Center, which offers long-term care,
short-term rehabilitation and recovery, and Home & Community Health Services, a home
health and hospice care agency.
Stafford Campus
Johnson Memorial Medical Center’s Stafford Campus is the home to Johnson Memorial
Hospital and Evergreen Health Care Center. Johnson Memorial Hospital is licensed for
92 beds and has a recently upgraded emergency department to address any form of acute
care need in the community. Evergreen Health Care Center is Johnson’s Medicare/
Medicaid certified skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. Evergreen is a 180-bed facility
complete with two long-term care units and a short-term rehabilitation unit.
Enfield Campus
The Johnson Surgery and Outpatient Services Center, Johnson Memorial Hospital
Cancer Center, and the Advanced Wound Center reside on Johnson Memorial Medical
Center’s Enfield Campus. Johnson Memorial Hospital provides same day surgical
services, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory services at Johnson Surgery and Outpatient
Services Center. The Johnson Memorial Hospital Cancer Center provides local residents
convenient access to a range of cancer care services, ranging from radiation therapy to
medical oncology. The Advanced Wound Center offers expert care for difficult wounds.
Its team of physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other staff are specially trained in wound care
evaluation and treatment. Home & Community Health Services is also located in Enfield.
Other outpatient services around the Enfield Campus include Sleep Laboratory, Cardiac
Rehabilitation, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

A Letter from our Chairman of the Board and President/CEO
2015 was a transitional year for Johnson Memorial Medical
Center (“JMMC”). In the past year, we have experienced
changes to prepare for our partnership with Saint Francis
Care and Trinity Health–New England. The implementation
of new policies and procedures and extensive capital
improvements to both our Stafford Springs and Enfield
campuses continued through 2015.
The Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team
have worked closely with the JMMC employees and medical
staff to ensure that the highest quality care is provided to its
patients at all JMMC locations. In conjunction with our
partner, Saint Francis Care, we have been able to ensure
our patients the right care, at the right time, in the right
place.
Since January 2015, examples of our capital improvements
and upgrades have been: conversion to EPIC (electronic
medical records), ICD-10 (billing implementation),
affiliations with new anesthesiology and radiology groups,
and contacts for tele-neurology, urology, and collaborated
efforts with Trinity Health–New England. It is our
responsibility to provide our community the best care that
has become expected from JMMC. We continue to enhance
your experience and welcome feedback through patient
satisfaction surveys, ensuring that patients and family
members receive their expectations of the highest quality
care. However, the most important component of ensuring
quality, and safe healthcare services continues to be around
the High Reliability program at JMMC – “Safety Starts with
Me.”
We closed our year with a pivotal transition into the
second largest Catholic health system in the country, Trinity
Health–New England. Along with Saint Francis Hospital,
Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Sisters of Providence
Health System, and its acute care hospital Mercy Health, and
shortly St. Mary’s Hospital, we will continue to serve the
people of northern Connecticut as a vital healthcare
resource. We couldn’t be more pleased to cement our
relationship with Trinity Health–New England and continue
to provide high-quality, high-value healthcare for our
community. “A Stronger Us. A Healthier You.”

Johnson Memorial Hospital
Johnson Memorial Hospital is a general, acute-care facility offering a comprehensive span of inpatient and outpatient
services to the residents of north central Connecticut and neighboring Massachusetts towns. It includes medical and
surgical care, obstetrics, mental health, emergency and intensive care, oncology, rehabilitation, pain management, and more.
The Hospital achieved the maximum award for its quality of care from The Joint Commission, which accredits healthcare
organizations. It is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists, the American Association of Blood Banks, and
the American College of Radiology Mammography Accreditation Program.

Finance Report
The 2015 Fiscal Year was one of great promise and accomplishment,
but also one of very significant financial challenges. Our overarching goal during the year was the completion of the truly
enormous amount of work necessary to complete the bankruptcy
process and prepare JMMC for its merger with Saint Francis
Hospital Medical Center and Trinity Health. Combined with those
requirements, we had extensive regulatory reviews, facility upgrades,
and physical plant improvements, the key planning for the EPIC
medical records system, the preparation for the sale of Evergreen
Health Care Center, and a host of other issues.
Such goals require massive amounts of management and
administrative efforts. They absorb portions of time and energy of
our key managers, even as they continue their efforts to increase
the efficiency of our operations and sustain the improved level of
financial performance achieved in the 2014 Fiscal Year. In spite of
the truly determined efforts of the staff at all levels of JMMC, these
tasks have proved daunting for two major reasons.
First, the complex nature of the coming together of JMMC/Saint
Francis/Trinity and the concomitant bankruptcy and sale of
Evergreen Health Care Center have required outside legal and
accounting services at a level that has been exceedingly difficult to
accommodate financially. During the 2015 Fiscal Year, those costs
ran $3,298,000. Moreover, even though their purpose was to
establish a secure future for JMMC, prevailing accounting and audit
rules required that those consultant fees be fully expensed and
incurred. On the positive side, the bankruptcy and sale of Evergreen
Health Care Center have resulted in a reduction of our mortgage
and legacy creditor debt of $25.1 million. These reductions are
necessary to our merger plans and the future security of JMMC, but
they are not allowed to be shown as income on our financial
reports for 2015.

Second, Governor Malloy, in attempting to deal with a fiscal
exigency with the State of CT budget, has ordered a series of
actions that have resulted in increased costs and, at the same time,
reduced revenues for Connecticut Hospitals. These actions resulted
in a net negative effect on 2015 JMMC finances for $964,000. These
actions also negatively affected Saint Francis Care and put new
burdens on their finances, even as they have been doing so much to
support our operations and the upcoming merger transactions.
The net result is that we experienced an accounting loss of
$4,795,000 for the 2015 Fiscal Year.That, standing alone, is
disheartening, but seen as the entry fee for our financial and debt
restructuring, and our entry into the Saint Francis/Trinity systems, it
is a major and truly significant positive accomplishment. Moreover,
it has been achieved under the very challenging circumstances by
the efforts of so many at JMMC, Saint Francis/Trinity, and at our
legal and accounting consultant firms.

Medical Staff
The Medical Staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital deserve
much credit over the past year which has brought significant
change to our institution. Throughout previous tumultuous
years, the Staff have remained intact and maintained a
positive outlook while delivering exceptional care to our
patients. This is my first of a two- year term as Medical Staff
President and it has been exciting to see such positivity and
enthusiasm as the Staff has embraced various challenges,
such as the training and utilization of EPIC, our new health
information technology platform. Other outstanding aspects
of the Medical Staff include ongoing participation in the
Medical Staff Scholarship program, as well as sponsorship
and involvement in the annual JMMC Medical Staff Golf
Tournament.
The Medical Staff has shown consistent commitment to
providing quality care to our patients, obtaining training in
High Reliability. As a group, the Medical Executive
Committee (MEC) has moved quality and patient safety to
high on the agenda of each monthly meeting. In addition,
Patient Satisfaction Scores are routinely analyzed to look
for areas in which the Staff can improve and upward trends
in patient satisfaction continue.

In addition to the MEC, other committees are placing a high
premium on quality and safety. The Physician Quality
Improvement Committee (PQIC) is comprised of Medical
Staff as well as other administrative professionals and works
with the MEC to promote Staff accountability, peer-review,
as well as assessment of patient satisfaction. Working with
Patty Jagoe, a nurse navigator model was created to
improve the quality of discharge care with special attention
to congestive heart failure (CHF), which represents a
considerable amount of our patient population. We
instituted a policy of phone calls to the patients and family
after discharge to address any needs that may exist. This
has resulted in a tremendous increase in patient satisfaction.
As we continue to form a coalition with Saint Francis
Hospital & Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center
under Trinity, it is our goal to work together with the
Medical Staff at these fine institutions to promote our
common goal of delivering exceptional care to our patients.

Johnson Memorial Medical Center’s Medical Staff has been awarding scholarships since 2003. The funds were originally
gifted to local high school students from five towns; Ellington, Enfield, Somers, Stafford, and Tolland. However, the Medical
Staff Scholarship Program has since expanded. The program now includes not only graduating seniors from these towns,
but students from parochial and vocational/technical schools outside the local community, previous recipients, children of
JMMC staff members, JMMC employees, and volunteers who are pursuing studies in Health or Human Services related
fields. The scholarships are funded by the Medical Staff and the Johnson Memorial Medical Center Golf Classic.
This past June, nine exemplary recipients were honored at an award ceremony and reception before the quarterly Medical
Staff meeting. This scholarship program creates, maintains, and strengthens ties to the communities we serve, while the gifts
are an investment in the future of the next generation.

Fund Development
Over the years, Fund Development, now led by the Committee
on Philanthropy, has been a trusted partner with those in our
community to ensure that excellence in healthcare is available close
to home.We do this by supporting patient programs, continuing
education, medical equipment purchases, and capital expansion at
Johnson Memorial Medical Center.
We have been very fortunate to partner with hundreds of
donors and organizations who understand our commitment and
responsibility to provide the best care possible to those seeking
medical services on our campuses. We are able to provide this
support through the stewardship of your philanthropic dollars.
In the year since our last report, the focus of our efforts has shifted
from fundraising to preserving and building upon the trust so many
of you have given us. This was accomplished by actively “telling the
story of the new Johnson” with regard to the acquisition of
Johnson by Trinity Health–New England, debt restructuring, and
the many positive accomplishments this organization has achieved.

As you have undoubtedly read, this special alliance preserves a
critical community asset, allowing us to continue providing
high-quality, compassionate healthcare to the community, as well
as contributing over 130 million dollars to the local economy. The
Committee on Philanthropy sincerely thanks the many businesses
and organizations that welcomed us to share our story with their
employees. Keeping the community well-informed on the
acquisition process, as well as on patient safety, new high reliability
process and facility upgrades, was our highest priority this year.
It is important to note gifts given to Johnson Memorial Medical
Center and its subsidiaries will continue to support our community
and will be used in accordance with donors’ wishes. Gifts received
throughout the year were used to support operations, provide
assistance to financially challenged patients, expand patient
services, purchase new patient-related equipment, and/or
support our Medical Staff’s scholarship program. As you will note in
the chart below, gifts to JMMC this Fiscal year totaled $471,000 as
compared to $276,000 the year prior.This is remarkable, and a true
testament to our communities ongoing faith in our organization, even
during our debt restructuring process!
In August of 2015, Johnson Memorial Medical Center and its
Medical Staff hosted the sold-out JMMC Golf Classic with special
guest, Jim Calhoun, NCAA National Champion Coach and Hall of
Famer. Golfers enjoyed meeting new friends from the community,
Mercy Medical Center, Sisters of Providence, and our partners from
Trinity Health–New England. Close to $100,000 was raised and
several clinical equipment purchase options are under final review.
We launched the new Fund Development website, Instagram
account, as well as dedicated new equipment for the Nirenberg
Center for Women and Infants received through the generosity of
Kate and Thom Vaghini and Family. The Hospital’s Emergency
Medical Services room in the Emergency Department was also
rededicated with benefactors, Alan and Terry Silver, after
improvements to the suite were complete. Fund Development also
serves as the liaison to the Johnson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to
whom we express our sincere gratitude. We salute your loyalty and
steadfast support to the Hospital.

Marketing and Community Outreach
Johnson Memorial Medical Center continued on the path of
strengthening its community outreach program by providing
educational lectures, clinical programs, and clinics to the
community. This year with collaboration from the Saint
Francis Care health promotion department, we were able
to host programs in a wider market than in previous years.
Current and updated outreach activities are found on the
home page of our website jmmc.com.
Our website continues to serve as an information portal
achieving continuous new traffic every day. Frequently
updated the website strives to bring real time current
events and news to the community. The website has been an
instrumental piece in establishing our brand and marketing
our services. Over the year, we’ve continued to build
relationships with local media and organizations to help
strengthen our visibility to the surrounding communities.
Our ads have appeared in The Reminder (Connecticut and
Massachusetts), The Journal Inquirer, North Central News,
Go Local, and The Republican media outlets. Our ads have
also appeared in several non-media platforms, including local
churches and senior center bulletins. In addition to an
increase in print ads, JMMC increased its presence on TV,
radio, and billboard advertisements. These
initiatives, along with the continuation of providing safe,
timely, and quality care to our patients, have led to an
increase in our market share.
Regaining and rebuilding the trust of our patients was at
the forefront of our messaging fiscal year 2015.
On January 1, 2016 JMMC and its existing entities
announced the signing of the final agreement which officially
transferred JMMC assets to Trinity Health–New England.
Johnson is the fourth hospital to join Trinity Health–New
England, the new regional health ministry; Saint Francis
Hospital and Medical Center, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation
Hospital, Sisters of Providence Health System, and its
affiliate Mercy Health.
I would like to thank the Marketing Committee members
who have served during the past year, assisted in the transition, and contributed to the commitment of bringing JMMC
to its mission of quality healthcare for our region.

This has been an exciting transitional year for the Patient
Care Services Division.
This year our focus began to evolve in preparation for the
transition to Trinity Health and becoming part of the Trinity
Health–New England Regional Health Ministry.
The focus on population health has expanded our scope to
include services both inside the hospital walls, as well as
outside and into the communities we serve. This was
highlighted by several key activities this year beginning with
our cancer program.
The Cancer Program underwent a very successful triennial
survey by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on
Cancer, and received a full 3-year accreditation with
Commendation at the Gold level.

In addition, seven commendations for exceeding accreditation
standards in all eligible areas, which included clinical trials,
cancer registrar education, public reporting of outcomes,
pathology protocols, nursing care, data quality, and data
submission and accuracy, were awarded.
The Commission was very complimentary about the
initiatives undertaken by the Cancer Center staff in the areas
of psychosocial distress assessment and patient navigation.
These initiatives were a focus during 2015, and helped to
ensure that each new chemotherapy patient was assessed at
the beginning of and throughout their treatment cycle.
Accomplishments in these two areas include the Patient
Advocate and Practice Nurse Coordinator, who review and
address any concerns patients have and assist them in
addressing any barriers they may have to successful treatment.
The Commission also acknowledged the Cancer Center for
their innovation in patient education. A separate and distinct
pre-chemotherapy educational visit with an oncology nurse
was implemented so patients could learn about planned
treatment and ask questions prior to their first actual
chemotherapy visit. At this visit, information is also provided
about the many services and resources available through the
support services at the Center.
In addition to the Center’s commitment to the patients they
treat, the program is also committed to addressing cancer
concerns in the greater community. Throughout the year, the
Outreach Committees held a number of educational and
screening events. Understanding that lung cancer is one of
the top cancer diagnoses in our community, the Cancer
Program made this a focus in 2015. Together with the JMH
Cardiopulmonary department, smoking cessation classes were
held in Enfield to encourage community members to quit
smoking. The Cancer Center worked together with
Radiology Associates of Hartford to hold a free Lung Cancer
Screening event in Enfield, which successfully screened 26
heavy smokers for lung cancer who would otherwise not
undergo screening.
The Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation clinic located at
139 Hazard Avenue started plans to relocate and expand this
fast-growing service to a larger space located at 15 Palomba
Drive. This service, overseen by a medical director and
experienced cardiac nursing staff, will feature state-of-the-art
cardiac rehabilitation equipment and services, as well as
introduce a new service for chronic health issues such as
congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease. This relocation is scheduled for early winter 2016.
Electronic Medical Record - (“EPIC”) - On the inpatient side
and soon to be expanded to the ambulatory areas, a new
electronic medical record was implemented on October 1,
2015. This successful implementation of EPIC allows all
healthcare providers and ancillary services to provide
seamless care to patients by having access to one medical
record with the goal of moving toward a paperless
medical chart.
Appointments, billing, and data collection are enhanced by this
technology, making it easier for patients and physician offices
to access the hospital and clinic system, enhances revenue and
expense management, and allows real-time data to improve
quality and efficiency.
Advanced Wound Center
During Fiscal Year 2015, the Advanced Wound Center (the “Center”) saw improvements in several areas, and is on track to
see continued improvements in 2016. A new department manager, Russell Newman, joined the Center in July. Russell is a
seasoned Program Director from Healogics, who came to Johnson from Saint Clare’s Hospital Center for Wound Care and
Hyperbaric Medicine in Dover, NJ. During the third and fourth quarters of 2015, the staff began its transition to a new
vision, clinical practice guidelines, and policies and procedures. Parallel to the implementation of EPIC, the Center
implemented a new Electronic Medical Record, which assists in tracking patient outcomes, focuses providers on clinical
pathways, and assists in proper billing and coding practices.
From a patient satisfaction and clinical care perspective, the Advanced Wound Center continues to exceed benchmarks.
On October 7, 2015, the Center initiated the distribution of Press Ganey Surveys, and the feedback received to date has
been positive and notes exceptional treatment by our Providers, and Clinical and Office staff. Our physician panel also
exceeded expectations with regard to healing rates, in which 88% of all wounds healed across all etiologies. In addition,
the Center experienced an increase in average patient census during FY2015.
The Advanced Wound Center is looking forward to the future, and its fourth year of operation. Areas of focus in 2016
include:
• Active recruiting of a Podiatrist to join the provider panel.
• Expanded training for the Clinical Nurse Manager and Registered Nurse.
• Increased collaboration with the Vascular Physicians in the region to help reduce the number of amputations
required and improve the overall quality of life for our patients.
• Re-establish an educational program with Home & Community Health Services staff to provide improved wound
care services in the local community.

Advancing Quality at Johnson Memorial Medical Center
Johnson Memorial Medical Center has achieved tremendous
improvement with a number of performance measures.
JMMC is on point to becoming a top community performer
by providing the best value and quality to our
patients and families.
Hospitals have inherent risk due to the nature and
complexity of our work. Over the past year, JMMC achieved
its goal for high reliability in patient safety. Safety Starts with
Me training provided tools necessary for a patient
focused safe environment. Over 94% of hospital employees
and 99% of the Medical Staff have completed training.

There have been NO patient state reportable or sentinel
events in CY 2015.
There have been no Stage III, IV, or unstageable hospital
acquired pressure ulcers (HAC) in CY 2015.
We completed significant facility infrastructure
improvements supporting successful regulatory surveys to
include DPH, CMS, and Joint Commission.
Our Patient Satisfaction rates as reported by Press Ganey
for “Overall Rating of Emergency Department Care” have a
favorable mean percentile rank of 90%.
A CMS program to reduce hospital acquired conditions
(HAC) placed 1% of Medicare payments at risk for all
hospitals. Our multidisciplinary approach to care resulted
in NO CMS penalty/payment for FY 2016.
Our Cancer Care program has been awarded a 3-year
accreditation with commendation at the gold level by the
Commission of the American College of Surgeons.
Our CMS 30 day All-Cause Unplanned Readmissions for
AMI, Heart Failure (HF), and Pneumonia (PN) are lower
than national rates.
In 2016, Johnson Memorial will continue to focus on
effective, safe, efficient, and patient centered care to
populations we serve.
High Reliability
Johnson Memorial Medical Center has implemented a system-wide initiative – High
Reliability. High Reliability will provide exciting opportunities for JMMC to improve
quality and safety for our patients, families, and each other.
High Reliability began within the aviation and nuclear power industries. Like hospitals,
these complex environments have numerous processes and technologies, always at risk
for error. One mistake could have serious consequences. Busy emergency departments,
medication dispensing, and surgical procedures all pose risk and speak to our complex
work environments. Therefore, High Reliability will provide JMMC with all the tools for
continuous improvement using innovation and creativity. High Reliability will teach us to
use checks, counter checks, and redundancy to avoid errors and prevent undesirable
outcomes.
As JMMC embarks on our High Reliability journey, our focus is on maintaining sensitivity
to operations. Hospital leadership attends morning safety huddles to encourage

and share opportunities for improvement. The Leadership team members then
communicate this information to their respective staffs.
Sixteen members from a variety of disciplines, including physicians, have committed to
learning the High Reliability safety tools. Employees will have the opportunity to learn
and understand what the High Reliability initiative is all about through training sessions
taught by JMMC’s very own instructors. Our colleagues, in turn, will facilitate High
Reliability training programs so each employee can CHAMP: Communicate Clearly,
Handoff Effectively, Attention to Detail, Mentor Each Other with 200% Accountability,
and Practice and Accept a Questioning Attitude.

Community Health Needs Assessment and
Community Benefit
Community benefit programs are programs or activities
that provide treatment and/or promote health and healing
as a response to identified community needs.
During the 2015 fiscal year, Johnson Memorial Medical
Center continued and created several community benefit
programs to educate the community on the health topics
identified through the 2013 Community Health Needs
Assessment. The community health needs identified
through the 2013 assessment process included: obesity,
diabetes, behavioral health, substance abuse/alcoholism,
and heart failure. An Implementation Plan was designed to
address those needs with activities that align with Johnson
Memorial Hospital’s mission, vision, and values. The goal of
these programs is to increase access to healthcare and
improve community health through education and
prevention services. These programs were centered on
speaking engagements by healthcare professionals,
preventive health screenings, and health fairs. In addition
to providing our own community benefit programs, JMMC

also allows groups such as Nar-Anon to hold support
programs in our facilities. JMMC is currently working on
its 2016 Community Health Needs Assessment, and going
forward, will continue building its community benefit
program based on the needs of the community.
In addition to providing numerous community benefit
services, Johnson Memorial Medical Center also provided
community benefits in the form of Charity Care and
Medicaid Shortfall. Charity Care is defined as free or
discounted healthcare services provided to those who
cannot afford to pay, but meet the entities financial
assistance policy criteria. Charity Care is reported in
terms of costs, not charges. Medicaid Shortfall includes
unpaid costs of public programs for low-income persons.
These include the shortfall created when a facility
receives payments that are less than the cost-of-caring for
program beneficiaries. In fiscal year 2015, JMMC provided
$ 90,101 of Charity Care and $ 5,724,495 in Medicaid
Shortfall to the community.

Pastoral Care
Reverend Carol Mento is in her second year at JMMC
servicing as the Interfaith Chaplain. Her ministry
demonstrates JMMC’s commitment to holistic
patient-centered care, which recognizes the
interdependence of the patient’s mind, body, and spirit.
Because each patient is embedded in a web of social
connection, Chaplain Carol’s primary role is to provide
emotional and spiritual support to patients, their families,
and staff. She joins with other members of the medical
team to provide quality care for our patients. Medical staff
often make referrals to Chaplain Carol when a patient is
feeling anxious, discouraged, or lonely, receives a new
diagnosis, is facing a difficult medical decision, is grieving, or
is struggling with the question “Why.” Chaplain Carol also
makes daily routine rounds throughout the hospital visiting
patients and their families, ministering to people of all faiths
or no faith. This past year, Carol provided spiritual support
through over 1,000 bedside visits.
In 2015, Chaplain Carol collaborated with Fund
Development by offering blessings at donor recognition and
dedication events. She joined the EHCC staff to
celebrate the organization’s 25th Anniversary with opening
prayer at the Kick-Off event, and a blessing for EHCC staff
at the closing Staff Recognition event. Working with

Volunteer Services, Carol helped train the seven
Eucharistic Ministers who volunteer at the hospital. They
visited approximately 1,380 Roman Catholic patients to
administer the sacrament of communion in 2015. The
chaplain’s ministry continued to reach into the
community through the 3rd Annual Service of
Remembrance, the Annual Community Clergy Appreciation
Luncheon, and Carol’s participation in the Stafford Springs
Clergy Association. She also facilitated workshops on
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the Somers and
Stafford Springs Senior Centers.
Chaplain Carol is an ordained minister in the United
Church of Christ with more than 2,000 hours of clinical
training in chaplaincy. In 2013, she completed her chaplain
residency at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, and
previously served as a chaplain in hospitals in both New
Hampshire and Massachusetts. Chaplain Carol also serves
on JMMC’s Ethics Committee and Palliative Care
Committee.
Auxiliary
Founded in 1913, the Johnson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
remains dedicated to the well-being and health of their family,
friends, and neighbors. As healthcare transforms to better
meet the needs of patients and communities, Auxilians and
volunteers continue to play a strategically critical role in
supporting that evolution.
Our Auxilians are citizen volunteers who have a common
concern for the health of their communities, and have a
common commitment to the goals of the Hospital.These
volunteers have joined forces in a collective effort to assist the
Hospital in the delivery of top quality healthcare.To support
this mission, the Auxiliary works diligently to raise awareness
and needed funding for the Hospital.
The Auxiliary empowers its mission through fundraising
events held throughout the year, and by sponsoring special
events, a newly formed scholarship program, and more.
In addition, the Auxiliary runs the Hospital’s Gift Shop, which is
located on its first floor. Staffed by volunteers, the Gift Shop
provides substantial financial support to the Hospital.Through
the Auxiliary’s efforts, Johnson Memorial Hospital has been
able to upgrade medical equipment, which supports the
Medical Center’s commitment to be a technologically
advanced hospital.
In September of 2014, the Auxiliary announced their
commitment to a three-year pledge of $150,000 in support of
Women’s Health Services. Our members had a productive
year and through a variety of programs and events, which
includes the 20th Annual Women’s Golf Tournament, our first
installment of $50,000 has successfully been met. The
Auxiliary would like to express our steadfast support of and
gratitude to Stuart E. Rosenberg, President & CEO, and the
Leadership Team for their commitment and attention to
providing a high-quality continuum of care for our community.
We know the challenges being faced in healthcare and we
recognize their commitment.
We are privileged to continue the work of the original Ladies’
Aid Society formed 102 years ago, and I would like to thank
my fellow Auxilians for their dedication. Our work is far from

JMH Volunteers
In Fiscal Year 2015, the volunteers at Johnson Memorial
Hospital, worked more than 16,700 hours, which was a 2.3%
increase over the previous year. Our volunteers consisted of
80 adults and 65 teens.These volunteers play a vital role in the
Hospital’s daily operations as our volunteers helped out in 25
of the hospital’s departments. Our patients and staff benefit
greatly from the generosity of these individuals who
contribute their time and talents to help make our caring
and compassionate organization exceptional.The volunteers
benefit by helping others and experiencing the healthcare field
first hand.The total economic value of their contribution is in
excess of $385,000.

The Johnson Memorial Medical Center Medical Staff hosted its
annual Children’s Holiday Party for children of JMMC employees and
physicians. As always, the Holiday party was a blast! Senior
Management and the JMMC Dietary Department prepared breakfast
while the children enjoyed face painting, a music show, and meeting
Santa Claus.
On February 6th, JMMC employees participated in the American
Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” movement to help raise
awareness for women’s heart health.

Johnson Memorial Medical Center implemented a system wide
initiative – High Reliability. High Reliability provided exciting
opportunities for JMMC to improve quality and safety for our patients, families, and each other.
JMH was among a select group of hospitals and transplant centers
nationwide recognized by the US Department of Health and Human
Services for conducting activities that promote enrollment in state
organ donor registries. JMH's awareness and registry campaigns educated staff, patients, visitors, and community members on the critical
need for organ, eye, and tissue donors and thereby increased the
number of potential donors on the state’s donor registry.

In spirit of National Volunteer Week, and to show appreciation for
the support that volunteers offer Johnson Memorial Hospital, the
annual Johnson Memorial Hospital Adult Volunteer Appreciation
Dinner was held in April.The dinner was organized by Pat Lake,
Director,Volunteer Services and was attended by staff members,
senior managers, Board members, and dozens of volunteers.
Following dinner, Stuart E. Rosenberg, President/CEO, JMMC
thanked volunteers and distributed awards to the 2015 Volunteer
Milestone Recipients.

Evergreen Health Care Center held a Veteran's Day ceremony to
honor and thank its residents who served in the United States
Armed Forces. State Senator Tony Guglielmo, Stafford; First
Selectman Richard Shuck; State Representative Kurt Vail, and Father

Johnson Memorial Medical Center and Woodland Anesthesiology
Associates, P.C. entered a partnership to provide 24 hour certified
registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) coverage to Johnson
Memorial Hospital. Having a larger CHNA support team on site 24
hours a day allows JMH to treat patients more efficiency and with a
higher quality of care.
The 2015 JMMC Golf Classic with Medical Staff was held at Ellington
Ridge Country Club in Ellington, CT. This event was extremely
successful! The proceeds for this event benefit patient related
equipment purchases and the Medical Staff Scholarship Program.

Survivorship Program for cancer survivors and their families. The
spotlight has on strategies for ongoing cancer survivorship issues
