400 Tiedoksi Sosiologia 4/2013 Important notice to the Finnish sociological community Call for Acta Sociologica Editors, 2015–2018 The Nordic Sociological Association is looking for new Editors to edit Acta Sociologica from January 2015 when the editorship will be transferred from Norway to Finland. Therefore, the Finnish sociological community is invited to make bids for the editorial management of this important international sociology journal. Acta Sociologica and its editorship Acta Sociologica is a highly respected journal published by Sage. The journal has a 5-year impact factor of 1.38 and is distributed to the members of the national sociological associations in the Nordic countries (ca. 3000) and has a global distribution through extensive library subscriptions. The submission and review process is hosted on SAGE track, a web based online submission and peer review system. According to the statues of its owners, the Nordic Sociological Association, Acta Sociologica’s editorship circulates between the Nordic countries. The journal is currently edited by Lise Kjølsrød and Arne Mastekaasa at the University of Oslo. The Nordic Sociological Association provides financial support to the host institution in order to cover the working time of editors and/or editorial assistance, and the costs for meetings with the journal’s publishers and owners. Evaluation criteria A bid for the new editorship should focus on the following key criteria, which will be used in evaluating the proposals: x x x x The level of sociological and professional expertise of the Editors. At a minimum, the new Editors are expected to be nationally leading, and internationally well-recognized sociologists The academic standard of the host institution. The host institution is expected to be an excellent research environment The quality of administrative support from the host institution to the Editors (e.g., secretary services, in-kind contributions) The visions for developing and strengthening Acta Sociologica during the term of the editorship Based on previous experience, the Editors should also meet the following additional requirements: x x x x The journal shall have at least two Editors, who are based in the same institution and who maintain good internal communication The Editors shall have high and complementary sociological capacities, both substantially and methodologically The Editors shall have a strong and complementary standing in international research networks At least one of the Editors shall fully master the English language, both in writing and in speech The bidding process The bidding process has been delegated to the Finnish sociological association, The Westermarck Society, who will make a suggestion for new Editors to the Board of the Nordic Sociological Association no later than March 31, 2014. The new Editors will be informed about the decision no later than April 30, 2014, and they will take charge of the journal on January 1, 2015. The current Editors will assist in the transition of editorial offices during fall 2014. The bidding procedure is managed by the board of the Westermarck Society. Below are the deadlines and important dates of the bidding procedure and the transition of editorial offices from Norway to Finland: December 2013 28/02/14 27/03/14 31/03/14 30/04/14 14–16/08/14 01/01/15 The Westermarck Society will publish and circulate the official call for bids for the editorship. The call will include detailed instructions for the applicants.
