MUSIC of INDIA in the
publicity
• India is made up of
– several dozen ethnic groups,
– speaking their own languages and dialects,
– having distinct cultural traditions
• The music of India includes multiple
varieties of folk, popular, pop, classical
music and R&B.
• India's classical music tradition, remains
fundamental to the lives of Indians today
as sources of spiritual inspiration, cultural
expression and pure entertainment.
• But even though this country is far away
from Spain, it has always been an
endless source of inspiration and
celebration.
• Throughout the history, western musicians
have composed
about
Indian
Topics.
• For instance:
• During the 19th century, a French
composer called Delibes gave us
an opera:
“Lakmé”
This opera captures the ambiance of the Orient
that was in vogue during the
latter part of the nineteenth
century
Set in British India in the mid-19th
century. The opera includes the
popular
Flowers Duet
Sous le dôme épais
Où le blanc jasmin
À la rose s’assemble
Sur la rive en fleurs,
Riant au matin
Viens, descendons
ensemble. Doucement
glissons de son flot
charmant
Suivons le courant fuyant
Dans l’onde frémissante
D’une main nonchalante
Viens, gagnons le bord,
Où la source dort et
L’oiseau, l’oiseau chante.
• In the first act, Lakmé and one of her servants
pause by a river to gather flowers.
• Delibes composed this part to help establish
the opera's exotic atmosphere, and that
"Flower Duet" (audio) has become one of the
most familiar numbers any composer, in any
genre, has ever written.
• You can hear it
– at the movies, on television shows, in elevators and
shopping malls, and in all manner of commercials.
Recently, it became a sort of TV theme song for
British Airways ads, as the peaceful accompaniment
to a jetliner floating through calm skies and wispy
clouds.

• Not only were Classical composers influenced
by Indian culture, but also Pop bands and
singers.
• "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)"
is a song by The Beatles, first released in1965.
• It is the first example of a rock band playing
the sitar in one of their songs; it was played
by George Harrison
• During The Beatles' American tour in August
1965, Harrison's friend introduced him to
Indian classical music and the work of sitar
player Ravi Shankar.
• Harrison became fascinated with the
instrument, immersed himself in Indian music
and played an important role in expanding the
emerging interest in the sitar in particular and
Indian music in general in the West
• Three decades later, this interest was still alive
• With a monochromatic bluish appearance
throughout, the video shows Madonna playing
an ethereal role, with long black hair, black
gowns, and mehndi on her hand showing the
Hindu word Om on her palm
• It was released in 1998
• Musically, "Frozen" is an electronic ballad.
• Frozen" was a radical change for Madonna. The
darker electronic undertones, eastern strings, a
touch of Middle Eastern percussion in the
opening and her new vocal range were all
previously unexplored territory for Madonna.

• Coming back to the marketing world,

• Five years later, in 2009, French Company

2000E.
• The advert was set in India.
• Some of the factories of Peugeot will be
relocated only two years later. Do you guess

• Traditional-Bhangra/ Updated-Music/ Western-Elements
• Bhangra is a genre of popular music associated with Punjabi
culture. It was developed in Britain in the 1980s by first and
second generation immigrants from the Punjab region of
Pakistan and India, drawing from music and song of the Punjab
region as well as various Western musical styles

This
advert was
criticised,
but in the
end, it
reached its
target: call
peopel
attention!
• On the other han, we not only receive .
• Lately we have blended our music with
theirs.
• “Señorita” is a song from the 2011 film
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The song was
performed by Indian actors and Spanish
singer María del Mar Fernández.
• The flavored Spanish flamenco
song is about being
yourselves and having
fun.
Plot:
• The story follows three friends.
• They set off to Spain on a bachelor trip and
meet Laila, who falls in love with one of them.
• The three friends go to typical locations such
as Sanfermines.
Is this an easy fushion ?
• Of course, the Romani peopel (or gypsies) are
an ethnic group living mostly in Europe, who
trace their origins to the Indian Subcontinent.
• Linguistic and genetic evidence indicates the
Romanies emigrated from India towards the
northwest no earlier than the 11th century.
And the most recent example:
• This ad is part of Heineken’s latest global
campaign ‘Open Your World‘.
• You will notice that the date takes place in a
Chinese restaurant, but for some reason the
backing music is in fact a 1960s Bollywood
number called, ‘Jaan Pehechaan Ho’.
• The commercial will no doubt appeal to the
younger male audience
• This is the
origin of
the song:
a
Bollywood
film from
the 1960’s
• Jan pehchaan ho
Jeena aasaan ho
Dil ko churaane waalon
Ankh na churao, naam to batao

It would make life easier
You who steal our hearts, do not avert
your glances
