ALEXANDRE THARAUD Pianist With his two most recent recordings for the Virgin Classics label, Alexandre Tharaud delved back into the world of Baroque music. First, with an album of Scarlatti sonatas, which was © Marco Borggreve Licensed To VirginClassics hugely popular among critics and the general public, then with his Bach piano concertos recorded with Les Violons du Roy, one of his favorite ensembles and one he toured with in November 2011. His earlier recordings include works by Rameau, Couperin, Bach, Ravel, Satie, and Chopin (his complete waltzes and 24 preludes) on the Harmonia Mundi label. Alexandre Tharaud has been invited to perform in recital on prestigious stages across Europe, Japan, North and South America, and at the best music festivals, including the famous BBC Proms in London. He has appeared as a soloist with leading French and foreign orchestras under the direction of such well-known conductors as Lionel Bringuier, Bernard Labadie, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Georges Prêtre, Yukata Sado, Stefan Blunier, Marc Minkowski, Stéphane Denève, and Claus Peter-Flor. Alexandre has had numerous works dedicated to him. He premiered the Outre-Mémoire cycle by Thierry Pécou as well as his concerto L’Oiseau Innumérable. In December 2012 he will perform the world premiere of Gérard Pesson's piano concerto with Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. After Hommages à Rameau—which alternated between the movements of the Baroque composer's Suite in F Major and tributes to living composers—and Hommage à Couperin, which followed the same pattern, Alexandre Tharaud is in the process of preparing PianoSong, a program inspired by the popular music he so dearly loves. Since the beginning of the 2011–2012 cultural season, Alexandre Tharaud has been artist in residence at Maison de la culture de Grenoble (MC2) and Opéra Théâtre de SaintEtienne.
