SARUM VOICES SOUTH AMERICA TOUR, MARCH 2010 Charlotte Ashley A former chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, Charlotte has been singing with Sarum Voices for the past seven years. She has recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied singing and oboe. Nicholas Berry Nicholas’ early musical education was as a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral, leading eventually to choral scholarship to Magdalen College, Oxford. Most of his work these days is in the legal side of music, although he also maintains a busy solo and choral career. Emily Chelu Emily is a founder member of Sarum Voices, and holder of this year’s Choral Scholarship. She graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in music, and currently works as a music editor for ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) where she concerns herself with the finer details of music notation amongst other things. Mary Chelu Mary (sister of Emily) is another founder member of Sarum Voices; in recent years she has ventured out of the comfort of choral singing to dabble in opera, taking the roles of Barbarina in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and Margery in Lampe’s The Dragon of Wantley, as well as singing soprano roles in Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. She is married to Ash, a photographer, and they live together in their little cottage in Sixpenny Handley, a village near Salisbury. Yvonne Eddy Yvonne studied music at Manchester University and the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland; she now sings with several professional church and chamber choirs. As a medieval music specialist, she directs her own vocal group, Levedy and is a member of Le Basile, Mediva and Vox Animae. William Edwards William Edwards was a chorister at New College, Oxford, a choral scholar at Wells Cathedral and then a Tenor Lay Clerk at Christchurch Cathedral, Oxford. He is currently working as a journalist in Paris. Stephen Harrison Stephen’s formative musical training was as a chorister at Derby Cathedral. He was awarded a choral scholarship to the University of Leeds where he read music, singing in the choirs of Leeds Parish Church and the University Chamber Choir amongst others. Since graduating he has sung in the choirs of Manchester, Lichfield, and (again) Derby Cathedrals whilst also pursuing his career in accountancy. Augusta Hebbert Augusta has recently been awarded a scholarship to study on the postgraduate singing course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As well as her work with Sarum Voices, she has established an international career as a soloist and consort singer, working alongside René Jacobs, Ivor Bolton, Louis Langrée and many others. Abigail Hooper Abigail Hooper was a choral and academic scholar at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. She now combines solo and choral singing with a career as a Speech and Language Therapist, working with adults across Hampshire. Richard Hooper Richard Hooper studied Materials Science at Cambridge, where he sang with the choir of Gonville and Caius College. He regularly broadcasts, records and tours with professional vocal ensembles, and works as an IT professional in Basingstoke. Ben Lamb Choirmaster and composer Ben Lamb founded Sarum Voices in the 1990’s. Apart from conducting nearly all of their concerts, he has composed and arranged much of their repertoire and is the choir’s counter-tenor. He began his musical career in Salisbury Cathedral, has held organ scholarships in Truro and Salisbury Cathedrals and was organist and choirmaster in St Peter’s Church, Bournemouth from 2003 to 2007. When his wife Cathy was appointed assistant organist at Lichfield Cathedral in 2007, Ben moved to the area with her and joined the choir at the Cathedral, where he is now Alto Lay Vicar. Apart from teaching piano and singing he is Director of the Outreach programme at St Peter’s Church Wolverhampton, associated with the HMG programme SingUp!
