Veigar Margeirsson Bio
Veigar Margeirsson is an acclaimed film score composer and co-founder of Pitch
Hammer Music, an LA-based music production company that specializes in theatrical
marketing campaigns, motion pictures, TV shows and themes, and custom music
services.
In his executive role as VP of Creative at Pitch Hammer, Veigar oversees an elite
team of music composers, sound designers, and mixers who compose premium original
music scores. Under his leadership, (and along with co-founder, Brian Brasher,) Pitch
Hammer has secured licenses in over 100 major motion picture campaigns in their first
two years of business. These campaigns include blockbusters such as American Sniper,
Gone Girl, The Amazing Spiderman 2, The Dark Knight Rises, Guardians of the
Galaxy, Iron Man 3, Noah, Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron and The Hobbit: An
Unexpected Journey. As a music composer, Veigar is regarded as an industry leader in
orchestral scoring with over 1,000 combined placements in motion pictures, television,
commercials, and trailers.
Margeirsson was born and raised in Iceland where he developed a strong interest
in orchestral and big band music. Following his musical calling, Veigar moved overseas
to attend Berklee College of Music. After a year in Boston, he transferred to the
University of Miami, completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Trumpet Performance,
and a Master’s Degree from the prestigious Studio Jazz Writing program where he won 2
Down Beat Magazine composing awards. As a “pencil and paper composer”, Veigar
began to expand his horizons by drafting charts and arrangements, and was soon writing
jazz and orchestral music for the concert stage, including serving as a musical arranger
for noted outfits such as the LA Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pink Martini
and Jamie Cullum.
It was while attending USC for film scoring, however, that Veigar broke into the
motion picture world. His first major movie trailer scores that put him on the cinematic
radar included, Ocean’s 11, Oceans 12, Batman Begins, and Superman Returns.
Margeirsson was soon working in collaboration with film producers, music supervisors,
editors, and studio marketing departments, and he began to acquire the business and
creative experience that enabled him to pull ahead of the competition, both as a composer
and budding entrepreneur. In 2012, Veigar joined Brasher and founded Pitch Hammer
Music with the objective of providing the industry a very selective library of only
specialized, high-end music compositions with exceptional, personal customer service.
In addition to his promotional work, Veigar scored the indie feature film, Killer
by Nature (2010). He won Best Original Score at the 2011 Badalona Film Festival in
Spain for the short film, In a Heartbeat (2011). Margeirsson also composed the original
score for Eric Schaeffer's Showtime Film Mind the Gap (2004) and was a co-composer
who arranged and orchestrated the well known Requiem for a Tower, a version of Clint
Mansell's Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream for full orchestra and choir for the
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) trailer. (Requiem for a Tower is one of
the most licensed compositions for trailers ever.)
Based in Los Angeles, Veigar still enjoys spending time in his homeland in
Iceland with his family throughout the year. In his personal time he is an avid cyclist, a
meat-eating Viking, and loves a good game of Monopoly (provided he gets to be the race
car.)
