2016|2017 SOLEMN MOZART Nuria Rial, soprano Marianne Crebassa, alto Benjamin Hulett, tenor Andreas Wolf, bass accentus Insula orchestra Laurence Equilbey, conductor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791) Vesperae solennes de confessore Krönungsmesse 90 minutes with an interval Insula orchestra and Laurence Equilbey In 1779, Mozart curtailed his catastrophic stay in Paris, returning to Salzburg and, reluctantly, to his position in the employment of Archbishop Colloredo. It was during this particularly arduous period that he completed two major works of sacred music, the Coronation Mass, followed a few months later by the Vesperae solennes de confessore. Despite their very different dedicatees — Leopold II for the former, Saint Jerome for the latter — they are scored for the same string section with no viola and contain two of the most moving melodies of all sacred music: the Mass with its celebrated “Agnus Dei” and the Vesperae with its “Laudate Dominum”. After recording the Requiem for naïve, Laurence Equilbey, with Insula orchestra and accentus, will be pursuing her exploration of Mozart by recording two of the Austrian composer’s major works, including the celebrated Krönungsmesse, performed at the Salzburg Mozartwoche in 2015.
