LUIS CANSINO, baritone
Born in Madrid, though of Galician origin, began his musical formation in Vigo. He studied
singing at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, obtaining the Award of Honor Thesis and the
Extraordinary Award "Lucrecia Arana". Later expands its formation with the famous tenor
Pedro Lavirgen.
Awarded by the Madrid Association of Friends of Music, Musician-Cultural Association
Pedro Lavirgen, the city councils of Bujalance and Haro, the Michoacan and Sonora
Institutes of Culture, the Department of Culture of the City of Mexico and Lyric Art
Foundation Colombia, has been 1st. Award Singing Competition Francisco Alonso in 1990,
Cultural Ambassador for Peace in Chiapas and Revelation Lyric Award in Mexico, both in
1993, and in 2015, Professional Career Award awarded by the Spanish Association of
Friends of Lyric. In 1998 participates in the celebrations of Philippines Independence, in
2006 at the Gala 150th Anniversary of the Teatro Nacional La Zarzuela de Madrid and in
2010 he was invited to sing at Le Concert Noble in Brussels on the occasion of the Spanish
Presidency of the European Union .
He has collaborated with prestigious Masters (Armiliato, Conlon, Haider, Zanetti, Davis,
Morandi, Wilson, Campanella, Carella, Carminati, Bisanti, Petrenko, Ortega, Halffter, Kyzlink,
Calderón, Díaz, Bollon, Pérez-Sierra, Vasilenko, Samoile, Guidarini, Patrón de Rueda, Bátiz,
Alapont, Roa, Rubio, Remartínez, Soler) well as with great Stage Directors (Pelly, Carsen,
Jöel, Pizzi, Pountney, Allen, Sagi, Kemp, Plaza, Tamayo, Pontiggia, del Mónaco, Hebert, Poda,
Slater, Giacchieri, Gas, Tambascio, García, Matilla, Gasparon, Panizza, López, Maya, Cruz,
Chávarri, Palacios, Adamik, Selmeczi), among many others.
He debuted in 1987in a Anthology Tribute to Maestro Alonso in the Centro Cultural de la
Villa de Madrid. From that moment, is converted to one of the leading figures in the genre of
Zarzuela, singing more than 40 titles in the principal international festivals and seasons of
this genre, highlighting how Vidal / Luisa Fernanda, Joaquín / La del manojo de rosas,
Juan / Los gavilanes, Juan Pedro / La rosa del azafrán, Nühredin / El asombro de
Damasco, Mario / La leyenda del beso, Germán / La del soto del Parral, Miguel / La
parranda, Rafael Sanabria / La calesera, and El Caballero de Gracia / La Gran Vía. First
baritone of the famous Anthology of Zarzuela of Jose Tamayo, has participated in the
recovery of titles like Chin Chun Chan (Jordá) Mis dos mujeres (Asenjo Barbieri), El
juramento(Gaztambide), Maria Adela (Bartlet), La gallina ciega (Caballero), Black el
payaso and Don Manolito (Sorozábal) and Xuanón (Moreno-Torroba), among many others.
Her operatic debut it happens in 1991 with the Opera of Morelia, Mexico, as Escamillo /
Carmen. Since then, he sings with assiduity in important opera seasons in Spain, Italy,
Germany, Peru, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mexico, Austria, Colombia, among other countries,
and was hailed, among other roles, as Ezio / Ezio, Leporello / Don Giovanni, Figaro / Il
barbiere di Siviglia, Nottingham / Roberto Devereux, Dulcamara / L'elisir d'amore,
Sulpice / La fille du regiment, Nabucco / Nabucco, Rigoletto / Rigoletto, Germont / La
traviata, Guido di Monforte / I Vespri Siciliani, Simon / Simon Boccanegra, Amonasro /
Aida, Iago / Otello, Falstaff / Falstaff, Barnaba / La Gioconda, Marcello / La bohème,
Sharpless / Madama Butterfly, Rénard / Rénard the fox, and Roque / Marina.
His concert repertoire includes The Messiah (Handel), Die Krönungsmesse (Mozart),
Symphonie Nr.9 "Choral" (Beethoven), Der arme Peter (Schumann), Requiem (Fauré) Las
siete canciones populares españolas (Falla) and Carmina Burana (Orff), having to its
credit the world premieres and recordings of Psalm (Carreno), The march of victory
(Muhammad), Cantata Asturiana (Ruiz) and various works of Mexican composer Alvarez
del Toro ( the operas, El canto de los volcanes and La marimba arrecha, the suite Espejos,
and the hymn El Gigante. Has to its credit the recordings of: Pavana Real (Rodrigo / EMI
Classics); Christmas classics (Cadena COPE) and several lyrical selections with the
Symphony Orchestra of Gijón.
