ABOUT THE COURSES
Since September 2009, a new programme of one, two and three day orthodontic courses are available,
aimed at specialist orthodontists only who are both experienced and new users of SmartClip™ and
Clarity™ SL Brackets, as well as conventional MBT™ Appliance users. The courses, delivered by Dr.
Lars Christensen, will comprise observation in clinic at his Oxford based practice with complementary
theory.
COURSE TITLES
COURSE 1 Indirect Bonding Techniques 1 day course
The use of indirect bonding in orthodontics is growing. The clear advantages is often seen in
lingual orthodontics, but these can also be used effectively in labial orthodontics. This course is
designed to demonstrate different indirect bonding techniques. An in-depth review of indirect
bonding techniques will be presented. Following this , Dr Christensen will demonstrate an actual
patient procedure. The participants will place brackets of their choice on models of a new patient
and the different bonding trays will be manufactured. The aim is to have two bonding trays for the
participants to take back to their practices for use the week after the course. The pros and cons of
indirect bonding will be highlighted and the course allows ample time for questions and answers.
COURSE 2 MBT™ Mechanics and Philosophy 3 day course
Includes observation in the clinic.
This course is an intensive revision of the principal areas of the MBT treatment philosophy. The
three days are spent analysing advantages of the bracket systems available. An in depth focus
on diagnostics and treatment planning, bracket placement treatment mechanics and stages of
treatment will be given. Through clinical case reviews, the benefits of systemising our treatment
mechanics will be discussed. The aim of the course is to give participants confidence in the
decision made throughout treatment and to emphasise the tips that improve case management of
both children and adults. In addition the course will cover; actual bracket placement on patient,
Class II and Class III treatment mechanics, fixed and removable functional appliances, micro-screw
anchorage, archwire selection and sequencing, arch form management and aesthetic treatment
options. The practical elements will include treatment planning, bracket placement, bracket
placement on your chosen patient, stages of treatment on typodonts, Class II corrector installation
and of course patient observation.
Course 3 Adult Aesthetics 2 day course
Includes observation in the clinic.
For many orthodontists the largest area of practice growth has been adult orthodontics. The course
discusses treatment planning for ideal and compromise cases. Bonding to non-enamel surfaces,
aesthetic demands, indirect bonding including tray techniques and interdisciplinary management
will be covered during the day, including patient observation.
Dr Lars Christensen
Lars completed his dental qualification in Copenhagen in 1990, followed
by a PhD in 1993. He then continued his education at Guy’s and
St Thomas’ in London and gained his MSc in 1996, which was followed
by MOrth at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1997.
Lars currently has a very successful private practice in Oxford, UK.
He has lectured extensively in Europe, USA, Middle East and Asia.
Lars is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, the European Orthodontic Society, the British
Dental Association, the Danish Society of Orthodontic Specialists, the Cranio-facial Society of Great
Britain and Ireland, the World Federation of Orthodontics and the American Association of Orthodontics.
He is also an affiliate member of Edward H Angle Society in California.
