Globe Theatre announces the 12|13 Season
REGINA, March 28, 2012 – Three musicals, a sequel to one the most popular comedies in our
history, a Canadian classic and an adaptation of one of the most beloved stories in English
literature make up the 2012|2013 season at Globe Theatre.
Kicking off the Main Stage season is the award-winning musical Billy Bishop Goes to War; the
story of a colourful young scrapper and war hero from Owen Sound, Ontario who became a
lightning rod for a confident young Canada. It’s followed by the outstanding family classic, The
Wizard Of Oz, which will transform the stage into the fantastical Land of Oz and delight all ages.
January will see the return of one of Globe’s favourite couples in the sequel to Sexy Laundry
Henry and Alice: Into The Wild. Next, the Globe Theatre Actor Conservatory graduates will be
featured in Pride and Prejudice, one of the most enduring love stories of all time. In April, we
will take audiences into the psyche of an extraordinary young girl in the one woman, half-mask
show I, Claudia. Closing out the season is The Drowsy Chaperone; this Tony Award-winning
spoof on musicals is an irreverent, made-in-Canada parody that manages to be both an
affectionate tribute and a merciless skewering of the rip-roaring Jazz Age.
The 2012|2013 Shumiatcher Sandbox Series begins in October with Midsummer [a play with
songs], the story of Bob and Helena and a great lost weekend of bridge burning, car chases,
wedding bust ups, bondage miscalculations, midnight trysts and horrible self-loathing
hangovers. Next will be the world premiere of Joey Tremblay’s Bad Blood, an autobiographical
account of the Kafkaesque nightmare of Western medicine told in the style of stand up comedy.
In February, the Sandbox will present Nightswimming’s production of Blue Box, written and
performed by CBC Canada Reads 2012 winner Carmen Aguirre who will share her incredible
experiences of revolution and romance from Chile to Hollywood. Blue Box is based on Carmen
Aguirre’s memoir Something Fierce. The season ends in May with O.C.Dean, an original
production written and performed by Daniel Maslany.
For complete play synopses, dates and information please see below.
The 12|13 Season will also see the addition of an Apprentice Directing Program, an exciting new
initiative which will provide opportunities and experience for aspiring directors to work in a
world class theatre.

resonance by songs that are sometimes raucous, sometimes mournful, but always steeped in
the realities of wartime. Experience Billy Bishop and connect body and soul with a formative
part of Canada's history.

a pair of pastry chefs? The Tony Award-Winning Drowsy Chaperone of course! This spoof on
musicals won’t leave any theatre cliché unturned, or any guest without tears of laughter.
