SHARRON’S BIG BROADWAY SHOW
Featuring Sharron Matthews
Thursday, April 8 & Friday, April 9 / 8PM
Stouffville, ON…Sharron Matthews, one of Canada’s leading cabaret performers and innovators, brings her
acclaimed one woman show Sharron’s Big Broadway Show to the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment
– Nineteen on the Park on April 8 & 9 at 8pm. Since 2004, Sharron has been fine tuning her unique blend of
cabaret and musical theatre through regular appearances in Toronto and several Canadian tours. With a
number of international engagements later in 2010 (New York City’s Joe’s Pub and the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival) we are proud to present this production in Stouffville as part of our 2009/2010 Professional Series.
If there is one thing Sharron Matthews has learned during her career in musicals (Showboat, Les Miserables
and Beauty and the Beast) and movies (Mean Girls, Hairspray and Cinderella Man) is that the best tales happen
backstage.
This girl from steel town Ontario, who from the age of 9 dreamed of being on Broadway, takes you on a journey
from her first job in the chorus of Les Miserables to the audition rooms of New York City, from a darkened
theatre with Harold Prince to dancing in the streets with John Travolta and a life changing moment with Bette
Midler. And it is all true!
Sharron’s Big Broadway Show is a show filled with singing, storytelling, and laughter featuring Broadway
favourites such as Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Adelaide’s Lament, Bring Him Home and Can’t Help Lovin’
That Man.
ARTISTIC BIOGRAPHIES
SHARRON MATTHEWS is one of the leading cabaret performers and innovators in Canada. From 2005 to
2009 she performed, wrote and produced her signature creation Sharron's Party all over the country to great
acclaim. Named the “Hottest Ticket in Town!” by the National Post, this “Downtown Diva” attracted guests that
included Tony Winner Brent Carver, Tony nominee Louise Pitre, National Post reviewer Robert Cushman, star
of the “The Jane Show” and “Women Fully Clothed” Teresa Pavlinek and “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” Gavin
Crawford. After 5 fabulous years, in June of 2009, Sharron decided to wrap up the “Party” in front of a busting
SRO crowd so she could move onto other projects.
Then Sharron's 2009 summer cabaret series Back to Basics was the Critics Pic in the Now Magazine for the
entire 3 month run.
One of her hottest new shows Sharron's Big Broadway Show, which premiered at the Toronto Centre for the
Arts in early 2009, toured east to PEI and Nova Scotia to great acclaim. In the Fall of 2009 hosted and featured
her Big Broadway Show at the 2009 Contact Conference, a showcase featuring the newest and brightest
theatrical events in Canadian Theatre.
In 2008 Sharron hosted the Dora Awards at the Winter Garden Theatre and was nominated for an award for
Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the West in LYKTP’s The Wizard of Oz.
After being featured in 2008 in a musical theatre songbook series at the inaugural Canwest Cabaret Festival at
the Young Centre, Sharron premiered her newest cabaret creation “Sharron Matthews and the Panik Attack” to
a SOLD OUT crowd at the 2009 Canwest Cabaret Festival, moving her work to the next level with the added
element of a rock band to help guide her singular musical storytelling. In 2009, she also had the great joy of
being featured at the Hysteria Festival, a festival of women, at Buddies in Bad Times.
After such a fabulous year, Sharron is now thrilled to be moving into the international scene! She is going to
continue to push the boundaries of storytelling as she takes her singular brand of cabaret all over the world!
Keep your eyes open for upcoming dates on her Homepage...or email her from the homepage and she will add
you to her email list or you can join her group “The Sharron Matthews Experience” on Facebook.
Sharron's Blog, which is at the same time hilarious and heart-wrenching, has become a daily destination for
people all over the world, in and out of the entertainment industry. Due to her entertaining and, sometimes,
unexpected exploits Sharron has been featured as the diarist in the National Post twice in two years. Glenn
Sumi of the Now Magazine declared Sharron’s Blog “Brutally honest and funny” on Twitter.
And Sharron also has a flourishing career on stage and in TV and film. On the big and small screen you might
recognize Sharron from the hit movie Mean Girls in which she played Joan the Secretary alongside Lindsay
Lohan. Sharron was also featured in Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe, Take the Lead with Alfre Woodard,
Kojak with Ving Rhames, as one of the Pick-a-Little Ladies in The Music Man movie for Disney with Matthew
Broderick, the Hairspray movie with John Travolta and the CBC mini-series Altar Boy Gang.
Theatrical performances include Madame Thenardier in Les Miserables with Colm Wilkinson in Toronto and on
a North American tour, Lottie in original cast of the Harold Prince revival of Showboat with Elaine Stritch and
Robert Morse, Babette in Beauty and the Beast at the Princess of Wales and the Narrator in two sold out runs
of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
The only question to ask is....What will she do next?
