DIRECTOR'S NOTES
The first time I ever read The Chronicles of Narnia, I was in fourth grade. I bought the boxed set with my
birthday money on the advice of my teacher and fell in love with a new world. I was filled with a
desperate hope that I, too was one of the lucky ones who would open a door or look at a picture and find
herself somewhere else.
Theatre has a special magic. It’s the only place where grownups are still encouraged to put on costumes
and play pretend. Sometimes theatre is the way that childhood fantasies become realities. In a way, I am
one of the lucky ones. In 2005, I did open the wardrobe into Narnia as Susan in my theatre department’s
production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This production at the Alban marks another
fantasy fulfilled as I am finally able to create my Narnia for others to see.
No play can be a success without a horde of talented, hard-working people to make it so. I would like to
thank all of the parents and friends of the actors and crew who have given their time without any
recognition. We see you. We appreciate you. Thanks to my crew. You have brought Narnia to life onstage
more beautifully than I could have imagined. Finally, to my cast, you are spectacular. I have enjoyed
every rehearsal, watching you play and invent onstage. You are all so very talented; I can’t wait to see
what you do in the future.
Enjoy the show!
“…they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not yet found, the echo of tune
we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.” - C.S. Lewis “The Weight of Glory”
