TECHNICAL DIRECTOR CHILDREN’S WORKSHOP CHILDREN’S MUSICAL THEATRE 14 A. (Ages 5-8 with Parents/Guardians) Fee: $40 Tuesday - Friday, 9:30 - 10:30 am; Saturday, 2:30 pm performance B. (Ages 9 -11) Fee: $100 Tuesday - Friday, 9:30 - Noon; Saturday, 2:30 pm performance C. (Ages 12 - 14) Fee: $100 Tuesday - Friday, 1:30 - 4:00; Saturday, 2:30 pm performance Sorry, no early registration discounts offered for this workshop. Note: There will be 9:00 am Saturday rehearsal for students planning to perform in the Children’s Musical Theater Showcase at 2:30 pm. Young performers who love musicals and want to learn the basics will be introduced to performance techniques in musical theatre. Learn how to stand, what to do with your hands, and where to look. Learn how to communicate with your audience as you tell a story and how to do choreography to music. This is a workshop of song, dance and a lot of challenges as you learn and prepare for a performance of a children’s musical reprise on Saturday afternoon! There will be a Saturday morning rehearsal for those intending to perform in the Showcase. Bring comfortable clothing and footwear for stage movement. GLEE CRIPPEN with ANN PLATT and SUE ROSENER GLEE CRIPPEN Currently an adjunct professor of music at Buena Vista University, Glee has degrees from Bethel University, Buena Vista University, and received her M.M. from the University of South Dakota. Along with teaching at BVU, she has a full private voice studio. Her community theater involvement includes leading roles in Oklahoma, Guys and Dolls, The Secret Garden, Nunsense, and Music Man, and is currently music director for In the Beginning. Glee has been stage director for middle school productions of Music Man Jr. and Fiddler on the Roof Jr. Another creative outlet is A Touch of Broadway, a troupe of 14 people who provide area entertainment. Glee is the music director as well as one of the performers. ANN PLATT Having received her Bachelor of Music Education from Luther College, Ann has spent the past 18 years teaching music at various levels, the last 10 years serving as the K-5 vocal music instructor at Denison Elementary. She has directed both high school and elementary school musicals, swing choir, madrigal, and junior high church choir. She also teaches private piano lessons. Having been a volunteer with the festival for many years, Ann currently serves on the Donna Reed Foundation Board of Directors. In her spare time, she enjoys singing with the praise group at Our Savior Lutheran Church. SUE ROSENER Retiring in 2005 after 32 years of teaching vocal music at the middle school level in Oelwein and Denison, Iowa, Sue is now teaching music part-time at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Elementary school in Denison. She was a member of the Iowa State Singers at Iowa State University in Ames and has appeared in numerous productions including leading roles in The Music Man, the one-act comic opera, The Telephone, as well as soloist for various community choir productions such as The Messiah. She directed and choreographed innumerable school productions including You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Sue was very active in the Midwestern Players theater group in Denison, directing, choreographing, and performing in numerous Dinner Theater pre-shows. HENRY BROUSSARD Henry has worked in every facet of the “behind-the-scenes” world of theatre, working under the titles of Stage Manager, Lighting Director, Sound Coordinator, Head Flyman, and Props. He has worked on road productions of Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, The Nutcracker, and Guys and Dolls. He has also worked as a grip, transportation coordinator, electrician, cameraman and sound mixer for several television and theatrical productions. Henry is currently working as a free-lance staging, lighting and sound technician, lending his talents to local union houses and exposition companies throughout southern California. FESTIVAL ACCOMPIANIST DOUG ROHDE For the past twenty years, Doug has been playing jazz piano and Hammond organ in MinneapolisSt. Paul clubs. As Music Director of Interact Center for the Visual and Performing Arts the past two years, he wrote and conducted original scores for new musicals. Doug recently moved to Denison, Iowa, where he teaches piano and guitar.
