Beginning Acting Introduction to performance; script analysis, acting techniques and the discipline of acting as handed down by Stanislavski and others. Intermediate Acting A continuation of work on the essentials of acting. Further dedication to the art is assumed, and professionalism, coaching, audition techniques, vocal quality and ensemble scene work are stressed. Advanced Acting: Finding your Path Designed to give students the tools they need to continue their acting training, this course surveys approaches to theatrical training including Method, Boal, Chekhov, Grotowski, and Alba Emoting. Acting for the Camera Developing the skills and vocabulary necessary to perform naturally on camera. Directing The director’s work, including script analysis, ground plans, blocking, focus, working with actors, synthesis of the whole production, and use of projects to discover students’ process and aesthetic. Movement for Actors Focus on expression, dynamic physical storytelling, core conditioning and kinesthetic awareness at a variety of levels. An overview of major theorists is included, beginning with Stanislavski’s later work. Mask Mime Mask for actor training, using Lecoq’s exercises to develop an actor’s presence and use of the body. The technical lessons of mime are used to develop specificity and creativity in actors. Students will devise their own scenes incorporating mime technique as well as music and other elements. Intro to Theatrical Literature/Script Survey Analysis and discussion of a range of scripts and their theatrical and literary merits, with a goal of being able to label and explain your personal aesthetic preferences. Puppetry Transferring acting skills to inanimate objects through real-time manipulation. Students will construct and use of a variety of puppets including marionettes, hand puppets, and full size puppets. Public Speaking Formulating an argument, creating presentations, awareness and use of body language, vocal skills, use of support materials, and handling stage fright. Stage Combat Unarmed or armed stage combat with a focus on safety, narrative, and underlying concepts. This is an acting course set in the context of overt conflict.
