RAFAŁ MAĆKOWIAK A graduate of the Drama Academy (PWST) in Warsaw, since joining TR Warszawa in 2002, Rafał acted in several critically acclaimed plays such as The Tropical Craze, 4.48 Psychosis, T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T., No Matter How Hard We Tried all directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna, Jan Klata’s Cut It Out, Angels in America directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, Jackson Pollesch directed by Rene Pollesch or Kornél Mundruczó’s The Bat. His most recent films include Inferno by Maciej Pieprzyca, 0_1_0 by Piotr Łazarkiewicz, Drowsiness by Magdalena Piekorz, and 33 scenes from life by Małgorzata Szumowska. LECH ŁOTOCKI A graduate of the Academy of Film, Television and Drama (PWSFTViT ) in Łódź, Lech joined TR Warszawa in 1996 and took part in most of its performances, both those directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna, such as The Tropical Craze, Festen, No Matter How Hard We Tried, Nosferatu and other renowned directors like Krzysztof Warlikowski (Bacchae and Tempest), Jan Klata (Cut It Out and Shoemakers at the Gates) or Krystian Lupa (City of Dream). He also appeared in the following movies, among others: Persona Non Grata directed by Krzysztof Zanussi, Strawberry Wine directed by Dariusz Jabłoński, and most recently, Heavy Mental directed by Sebastian Buttny. 5 ADAM WORONOWICZ A graduate of the Drama Academy (PWST) in Warsaw, before re-joining TR Warszawa in 2010, Adam was part of Teatr Powszechny. He is highly regarded for his roles in TV dramas, but the real breakthrough in Adam’s career came with the lead role in the 2009 film Popiełuszko: Freedom Is Within Us. It was followed by a string of interesting supporting roles in Polish films. His recent roles at TR Warszawa were in No Matter How Hard We Tried and Nosferatu directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna and the award winning The Bat by Kornél Mundruczó. The role in Sławomir Fabicki’s film Miłość (Love) has just won him a nomination for best supporting actor in this year’s Polish Film Awards. GRZEGORZ JARZYNA (Director, Artistic Director of TR Warszawa). Since his debut in 1997, Grzegorz Jarzyna is counted among the most important stage directors in Poland. His work has revolutionised Polish theatre and has received widespread international recognition. in 1998 he became Artistic Director of Warsaw based Teatr Rozmaitości which he turned into TR Warszawa - one of the most innovative and progressive theatres in Europe. Jarzyna has staged classical dramas reinterpreted in a bold and innovative way (The Tropical Craze based on Witkacy’s two plays, and Magnetism of the Heart based on Aleksander Fredro’s Maiden Vows), adaptations of famous European novels (Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann, and The Price Myshkin based on Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot), world-famous contemporary dramas 6 (Unidentified Human Remains by Brad Fraser, Sarah Kane’s 4:48 Psychosis staged in Warsaw and Düsseldorf), as well as operas (Prokofiev’s The Gambler at the Opera de Lyon, Maurice Ravel’s The Child and The Enchantments and Alexander Zemlinsky’s The Dwarf at the Bavarian State Opera). He is renowned for combining different art forms and genres, which is reflected in such performances as 2008: Macbeth - a movielike adaptation of Shakespeare’s drama which takes place in four different sets or Giovanni based on Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Moliere’s Don Juan – a performance combining theater and opera. He has authored several adaptations - two plays: Medea Project and Areteia and two librettos for Zygmunt Krauze’s Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy and The Trap. He has also directed TV versions of his performances: The Tropical Craze, 2007: Macbeth, and most recently No Matter How Hard We Tried, as well as a TV theater drama History According to Gombrowicz. His last performances at TR Warszawa include award-winning plays T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T. based on Pier Paolo Pasolini’s work and No Matter How Hard We Tried by Dorota Masłowska, which premiered in Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin as well as Nosferatu inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Jarzyna’s international reputation results in numerous invitations to stage guest performances in Europe and all over the world. Among others, he participated in the Odyssey Europe project developed within the framework of The European Capital of Culture RUHR 2010 staging his adaptation of Odyssey - Areteia at the Schauspiel Essen. PIOTR DOMIŃSKI (Music) Piotr is a musician (guitarist) and sound designer who works regularly with Grzegorz Jarzyna and TR Warszawa. He created sound and sound effects for such performances as: 4:48 Psychosis, Festen, 2008: Macbeth, Ragazzo Dell’ Europa, Giovanni, No Matter How Hard We Tried, T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T., Areteia and Nosferatu. PAWEŁ MYKIETYN (Music) Having studied composition with Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, as a clarinettist he won the 1994 competition for Young Players of 20thcentury music, held by the Polish Society for Contemporary Music. Mykietyn has also composed the 14 music for many theater productions, including Scarlet Island and As You Like It directed by Piotr Cieślak, The Celebration, 4:48 Psychosis and In the Jungle of Cities directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna and for most performances staged by Krzysztof Warlikowski, including Electra, The Winter’s Tale, The Taming of the Shrew, Pericles, Twelfth Night.Hamlet, The Tempest, The Bacchae, Cleansed, Krum, Angels in America and (A)pollonia. In 1998, a year after his critically acclaimed debut with The Tropical Craze, Grzegorz Jarzyna was offered the direction of a small Warsaw stage called Teatr Rozmaitości. Since that time, he has transformed it into TR Warszawa, one of the most important theaters in Poland - and one of the best known Polish theaters around the world. TR Warszawa is home to artistic experiments of all kinds. Jarzyna has created a place that not only provides space for his own work, but also attracts other brilliant directors such as Krystian Lupa, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Jan Klata, René Pollesch, and Kornél Mundruczó. He has built an an acclaimed team of actors, composers, and designers. Always on the lookout for new talents and a new language for contemporary theater, TR Warszawa has commissioned several new dramas, made some bold reinterpretations of classics texts, opened its stage to young actors and directors, and explored the potential of non-traditional performance spaces in the city. The Other Side called City of Dream and directed by Krystian Lupa. In its current repertoire there are also productions that have already gained the status of classics, such as Jarzyna’s adaptation of Sarah Kane’s last drama, 4:48 Psychosis. TR Warszawa receives invitations to various festivals and stages in Europe and beyond, and has performed in Avignon, Paris, Lille, London, Edinburgh, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Jerusalem, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Stockholm, Dublin, Brussels, Madrid, Minsk, Bucharest, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Wellington and Hong Kong.
