On behalf of the 250 volunteers and professionals that make up TUTS, thank you for joining
us in Stanley Park’s historic Malkin Bowl this summer. For our 66th season, we are thrilled to
present the new production of TITANIC and the classic musical comedy THE MUSIC MAN!
As one of Vancouver’s largest theatre companies, we are fortunate to have many, many
committed people whose hard work and creativity are reflected under the colourful and
powerful stage lights tonight. We know that you will enjoy tonight’s show, whatever show
you have come to see, and we look forward to welcoming you again when you come back
for our second show and another magical outdoor theatre experience. It is your support that has allowed
Theatre Under the Stars to entertain more than two million people from around the world for more than half a
century. Our mission remains unchanged since 1943: an evening of musical theatre magic that leaves you, our

Welcome to a night of magic! Theatre Under the Stars’ historic mandate is not only to
provide the great entertainment you will enjoy this evening, it is to provide an educational
opportunity for those seeking a career in the entertainment industry. For sixty-six seasons,
over twenty-five thousand performers, musicians, designers, directors and technicians have
honed their craft and learned new skills while producing and performing in front of some
of the largest audiences in the Vancouver theatre scene. It is this dual mandate that is the
core strength of TUTS. A magical evening under the stars of pure musical theatre majesty
for many; an educational or career opportunity for others. On behalf of the TUTS Board of Directors, I want to
thank you for your support. Without you this training ground, this unique opportunity for young people, would
not exist. That it works is without question. At the Tony Awards this past June four performers from the Tonynominated JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR all had their start at Theatre Under the Stars. And this theatre company’s
impact stretches not only from coast to coast but internationally as well through the mentorship and training
opportunities in our Rising Star program. That’s why I am asking for your support by making a donation
and becoming a member. Not only are there unique benefits to being a TUTS member but you will also be
supporting the next generation of entertainers and storytellers whose dreams are as large as the starry skies
above you. In this world of cut-backs to the arts say “yes” to the artists and dreamers of tomorrow by becoming

The 2012 Season is dedicated to Cliff Cox
On February 4th of this year, TUTS lost one of its brightest stars: Cliff Cox. Cliff was
one of the original members of the Theatre Under the Stars Musical Society, and
joined the Board in 1972. He was instrumental in the survival and success of
the company right up until his death. For forty-two years Cliff acted, directed,
was a production liaison, board member and an executive member of the Board
of Directors including its president. A consummate entertainer, he gave many
memorable performances on the TUTS stage; Fagin in OLIVER and Dick Deadeye
in HMS PINAFORE are among his most memorable characters. In recognition of his dedication and
commitment, he was honoured with a Lifetime Membership. His warm and positive spirit, and his
passion for the local theatre community have left a lasting impression on all those who were fortunate
to know him and to work alongside him. Cliff will be greatly missed. This year’s Alumni Night, Monday,
August 6th, will feature a special tribute in his honour. TUTS has launched a special fundraising
campaign to create a Cliff Cox Scholarship, and fund a very special memorial at Malkin Bowl. For details

DIRECTORS
MAX REIMER* Director, Choreographer
Max is honoured to debut at TUTS in his hometown having performed, choreographed and
directed large musicals from Victoria to Charlottetown, including musicals at the Stratford
Festival (3 seasons), Charlottetown Festival (7 seasons), Edmonton’s Citadel (part of 7 seasons)
and a dozen musicals for Stage West in Calgary and Mississauga. Since 1993, Max has been
the Artistic Managing Director for Huron Country Playhouse, Theatre Aquarius Hamilton, and
the Vancouver Playhouse; for whom he directed the award-winning The Drowsy Chaperone
that was revived for the Citadel Theatre and the National Arts Centre. Upcoming: Billy Bishop
at the Globe in Regina, Bah Humbug at SFU Woodwards, Fiddler on the Roof at Stage West Mississauga,
Chicago at Stage West Calgary, and Gunmetal Blues at Prairie Theatre Exchange in Winnipeg.
KEVIN MICHAEL CRIPPS Music Director
Kevin Michael is an instructor and music director in the theatre department at Capilano
University. He also works extensively as a vocal coach and actor. Recent acting credits
include: the Priest in The Light in the Piazza (Patrick Street Productions), Toad in A Year
With Frog and Toad (Gemini Theatre), Jud Fry in Oklahoma (Theatre Under the Stars), Cliff
Bradshaw in Cabaret (Uncle Randy Productions), Captain Albert Lennox in The Secret Garden
(Gateway Theatre), and the Bishop/Joly in Les Miserables (Arts Club Theatre Company). Kevin
has been music director at TUTS for the last two seasons and is pleased to be returning to
work on this summer’s production of Titanic - A New Musical . This coming fall, Kevin will be heading off to the
UK to complete a Masters degree in The Practice of Voice and Singing.
KEVIN WOO Assistant to the Musical Director
Kevin is happy to be back for his 13th season with TUTS. 2012 also marked his 21st consecutive
season with Royal City Musical Theatre. Kevin attended UBC for 4 years working towards a
Bachelor of Music degree. He is extremely excited to take on this role with TUTS, working
with two musical directors and many musicians who not only create a great show, musically,
but also make sure it is as enjoyable as possible.
JENNICA GRIENKE Assistant to the Director
Jennica is an actor/writer/director/creator born and raised in Steinbach, Manitoba. She
is thrilled to be working with such talented people at TUTS! You can spot Jennica in the
Vancouver Fringe Festival with her new original show Smudge. Jennica is a graduate of the
University of Winnipeg (BaH) and Studio 58 (Acting).

David previously played Daddy Warbucks in the 2009 TUTS production of Annie. This past year -Light
in the Piazza, La Cage aux Folles, The Idiot, and Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly!. This Fall - Tear the
Curtain at Canadian Stage Co. in Toronto and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at The Gateway Theatre.
DEBORAH ALLMAN Ida Straus
Deborah is delighted to be returning to TUTS and joining the cast and crew of Titanic on this exciting
voyage. Favorite credits include Pseudolus (…Forum), Liliane LaFleur (Nine), Rita LaPorta (Lucky Stiff) and
Mrs. Medlock (Secret Garden). Special thanks to Sam and Ruth for love, support, and borscht.
PAUL ALMEIDA Charles Lightoller
Paul is a recent graduate of the Capilano University Musical Theatre Program. He has recently performed as
the lead dancer in the PNE night show Pop City, as well as in Hello, Dolly!, Arabian Nights and Cinderella
(Exit 22). He hopes you enjoy the show!
NATALIE ASPINALL Mrs.Damico
Natalie is thrilled to be back from her first year studying economics at McGill University to perform in her
seventh season at TUTS. In the past Natalie has enjoyed playing the Fairy in Metro Theatre Pantomimes,
performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (RCMT), and being a member of Perry
Ehrlich’s Showstoppers.
MICHELLE BARDACH Kate McGowan
Michelle has just graduated from the Musical Theatre Program at Capilano University. Recent credits
include Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly! (Exit 22), Sister Sophia in The Sound of Music (Gateway Theatre), and
ensemble in Cinderella (Exit 22), A Little Night Music (Arbutus Studio), and Hair (Fighting Chance).
STUART BARKLEY J.B Thayer
Stuart is a first year Capilano Musical Theatre student. His credits include: Sonny in Grease (Brookswood
High School); Arts Club Musical Theatre Summer Intensive 2011 (Peter Jorgensen, director). Thanks to my
mentors, Ms. Conrad, Mr. Hamilton, Courtenay Ennis, Todd Thomson, and to the Capilano MT staff with a
special shout-out to Craig Tompkins.
MICHELLE T. BAYNTON Ensemble
Michelle is an actor, singer, and recording artist. She is in her final year of UBC’s Opera Performance
program. Credits include: Smile (Awkward Stage), Adding Machine (Pipedream), The Sound of Music
(Footlight) and Suor Angelica (UBC Opera). Catch her next in Cosi fan Tutte with UBC Opera.
NATASHA BELONIO Mme. Aubert
Natasha recently finished her second year in the Musical Theatre Program at Capilano University. This
year she performed in Exit 22’s main stage production of Hello, Dolly! She is thrilled to be a part of such a

PETER BOYCHUK Jim Farrell, Taylor
Peter trained at Studio 58 and holds an M.F.A. in Playwriting from UVic. His play Shelter from the Storm
was just produced by Touchstone Theatre, and he has directed numerous new plays, most recently
Prodigals for Twenty Something Theatre. This is his first musical since high school!
THEO BUDD Wallace Heartley
Theo recently completed a BMus degree from UBC and has just finished his first year at Capilano University
for Musical Theatre. This will be his first show with TUTS. Previous credits include Guys and Dolls (Nicely
Nicely Johnson), Into the Woods (the Baker) and Once On This Island (Papa Ge).
NOAH BUHLER Jack Thayer (Kid)
Noah is excited to be doing Titanic in his first season at TUTS! He currently dances at Capella Dance
Academy with Justine Kelso and takes lessons at the Chilliwack School of Performing Arts with Stefanie
Swinnard. He looks forward to starting Kindergarten in the fall and thanks his Mom (who is playing in the
orchestra) and Dad, Nana and Papa, Kevin, Max and all the cast and crew! Much love to all his family.
DANIEL CARDOSO Ensemble
Daniel is a recent graduate of the Musical Theatre program at Capilano University. Recent credits include
The Sound of Music (Gateway), Bye Bye Birdie (TUTS), Hello, Dolly!, Cinderella and The Hobbit (Exit 22).

STEFFANIE DAVIS Charlotte Cardoza
Steffanie recently graduated from the Capilano Musical Theatre program and is excited for a second year
at TUTS. Recent credits include Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly! (Exit 22), Sister Margeretta in The Sound Of Music
(Gateway Theatre), Nancy in Bye Bye Birdie (TUTS), and Bombur in The Hobbit (Exit 22).
LUKE DAY Major
Luke’s stage career began with the 2003 Downtown Eastside Community Play In The Heart Of A City. He
has appeared in over 30 productions including: The Feigned Courtesans, The Seagull, Six Degrees of
Separation, The Power of Yes, The Ecstasy Of Rita Joe, Urinetown, and The Idiot.
WELLS DEARBORN Charles Clark
Wells is super excited to join the cast of this historic piece. He is going into his third year of musical theatre
at Capilano University. Previous credits are: Hello, Dolly! (Exit 22), Anything Goes (TUTS), Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Kelowna Actors Studio). Enjoy the show!
STEFANIE DREYER Eleanor Widener
Stefanie has been performing for over 10 years. She is a graduate of the Stage School of Performing Arts in
her native Hamburg, Germany. She also attended Broadway Dance Centre in NYC. She would like to thank

This is Seth’s second season at TUTS. Last year he performed in Anything Goes as Lord Evelyn Oakley.
Seth has appeared in many productions locally, most recently with Metro Theatre as Carole Todd in Victor

JESSICA MONA MARSHALL Marion Thayer

Scott is an actor and producer. He’s returning to TUTS after doing Annie in 2009 and has just finished
playing the Judge in Hello, Dolly! (Royal City), the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz (Footlight Theatre). Past

ALEX MCMORRAN* J.Bruce Ismay
Alex is a Vancouver-born actor and musician. Recent highlights include Farragut North (Blank Slate),
Drood (FCP), Supernatural Noir (Fugue), A Good Woman of Setzuan (Seven Tyrants) and award-winning
turns in Sweeney Todd (FCP) and Amadeus (Vagabond). In September he will be moving to London to
pursue his Master’s at LAMDA.
TOLGA NEMUTLU 4th Officer Joseph Boxhall
Tolga graduated from Capilano University’s Acting for Stage and Screen. He is thrilled to be on the stage

Russell has performed for 35 years in theatres from Victoria to Charlottetown, New York to LA. His film and
TV credits are numerous (IMDB) and his voice is heard frequently in radio commercials. He is married to
actor Colleen Winton, and proudly shares the Titanic stage with their sons, Sayer and Gower. Truly, the
highlight of a long career!

Sayer is a graduate of the Capilano University Musical Theatre program. His credits include Footloose,

MARK TURPIN Edgar Beane
This is Mark’s fifth season at TUTS; credits include Annie, Grease and Crazy for You. When he is not on

performance to the memory of Mr. and Mrs. William J.R. Turpin, who lost their lives with the Titanic.

SARAH RODGERS* Director
Sarah is a director/actor with a BFA, MFA (directing) in theatre from UBC. Sarah is thrilled
to be back with the TUTS family. She began her journey playing Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly
Modern Millie and then directed Anything Goes last season and was tickled pink to receive
an Ovation Award for Most Outstanding Production. Directing highlights include: Billy
Bishop Goes to War (UBC, Arts Club theatre/Persephone); The Thirteenth Chair (Studio 58);
A Christmas Carol (Pacific Theatre). Upcoming: The Duchess (UBC Theatre); Sisters (The
Gateway Theatre); A Room with a View (United Players). You can also see Sarah on stage at
The Waterfront Theatre in Axis Theatre’s The Number 14 this Fall. It was a joy directing this beautiful classic - a
big thank you to the TUTS Company for all their support and commitment.
CHRISTOPHER KING Music Director
Christopher is an actor, music director, and composer. He is thrilled to be back again at TUTS
as music director for the 3rd time, having previously music directed Thoroughly Modern
Millie (2009) and Anything Goes (2011). Chris is no stranger to TUTS having performed
in West Side Story (1999), South Pacific (2000) and Joseph (2002). He is so excited to be
working on such a classic musical theatre show, with both Sarah and Dayna again. Thank you
to the very talented cast, stage crew, Jenn, Sarah, Dayna, Ryan, and all the patrons of theatre
in Vancouver. Please enjoy this beautiful musical theatre piece.
DAYNA TEKATCH* Choreographer
Most recently Dayna directed a production of The 39 Steps for Stage West in Mississauga
and sang in a workshop for a new musical by Allen Cole. She also directed and
choreographed a production of Oliver! and choreographed Peter Anderson’s Creation
at the National Arts Centre. Other choreographic credits include: Anything Goes(TUTS),
Drowsy Chaperone(Vancouver Playhouse, Citadel, NAC, 1000 Islands Playhouse-Sterling
award for Outstanding Choreography), Rocky Horror, Buddy(Aquarius), Romeo and Juliet
(NAC,Canadian Stage), Marvelous Wonderettes, Up The River(1000 Islands), Palmer Park,
All’s Well That Ends Well, Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Grand Night(Stratford Shakespeare); Directorial
credits include: the Canadian premiere of The 39 Steps(1000 Islands), Driving Miss Daisy, Tuesday’s With
Morrie(Starbright Festival). Dayna was a member of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Company for 8
consecutive seasons and was also a member of the English Theatre Company at the National Arts Centre in
Ottawa.
MIKA LAULAINEN Assistant to the Director
Mika Laulainen is a recent graduate of the Theatre Program at UVic with a specialization in
directing. She has returned to Vancouver, her hometown, to continue her theatrical career.
She has loved this opportunity at TUTS, working with Sarah and the cast and crew of The
Music Man. Thank you everyone for such an amazing summer.
ERIKA GUNDERSEN Assistant to the Music Director
Erika Gundesen is a recent graduate of UBC School of Music, with a degree in piano
performance. She is originally from Calgary, Alberta, where she also earned her ARCT
Diploma. This is her first TUTS show, and Erika is honoured and thrilled to be part of the Music
Man team!

This is Chris’s fourth TUTS show, having previously appeared in Footloose, Annie Get Your Gun, and Bye
Bye Birdie. A Vancouver Ovation Award winner, and was seen recently as The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard
of Oz (Footlight) and a dancing waiter in RCMT’s Hello, Dolly! Playing Marcellus is a dream come true.

ROBSON BAKER Constable
Rob studied theatre at Capilano College and Queen’s University. He has performed in a wide variety of
plays and musicals, recently Rosmersholm with United Players and Fiddler on The Roof with The Gilbert &
Sullivan Society of UBC. Thanks to Sarah, Chris & Dayna for the opportunity to work with this fabulous cast

ALFONSO BANZON Featured Male Dancer
Alfonso trained at the Richmond Academy of Dance, where he began training in various disciplines
starting in 2007. He recently debuted on stage in The Mystery of Edwin Drood with Fighting Chance
Productions and subsequently performed as a Lead Dancer in Victor/Victoria (DS Productions).
BRADLEY BARKMAN Featured Male Dancer
Bradley just wrapped an exciting run of Hello, Dolly! (RCMT) and is thrilled to experience his first
opportunity with TUTS in The Music Man. Recent performances include RCMT’s 2011 production of The
Will Rogers Follies, and the past two years performing in James Productions’ Christmas Pops. Hope you

CHARLIE BERG Kids Band Ensemble
Charlie is thrilled to be making her TUTS debut in The Music Man. Previous credits include an Oopma
Loompa in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Young Cosette in Les Miserables. Charlie currently trains
at Pro Arte Dance and Broadway Edge and just completed grade 5 at Highlands School.
BRIANNA CLARK Kids Band Ensemble
Brianna is 12 years old and thrilled to be part of her first TUTS production. Past performances include

DAVID COTTON Jacey Squires, Quartet tenor
A second-generation barber shopper (thanks Mom & Dad), David has sung in several hundred shows/gigs
in six countries over 25 years of quartet singing and directing. His wife Elaine is a world SAI barbershop
quartet champion. All four of his daughters act, sing and/or dance. He lives in a loud home.
SHARON CRANDALL Maud Dunlop
Sharon is excited to be back at the Bowl! She has been previously seen as Sheila (Hair), Ursula (Birdie),
Dorothy (The Wiz), Madam Liang (Flower Drum), Ice Supremes (Olympics 2010) or perhaps on a TV near

After completing her first year at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy Los Angeles to study
musical theatre. Shannon is thrilled to return to the TUTS stage for her sixth season! Currently performing

DAREN HERBERT* Harold Hill
Born in Bermuda, Daren received his BFA-Theatre Arts and MFA-Drama at The University of the Arts,
Philadelphia and the University of California, Irvine respectively. He earned an LA Drama Critics Circle
Award and an NAACP Theatre Award Nomination for work in the LA Premiere of LaChiusa’s The Wild Party,
and is a two-time Dora Award nominee for the Toronto/Canadian Premieres of both The Toxic Avenger
Musical and Parade.

KEIRA JANG Amaryllis
Keira’s excited for her 3rd summer with TUTS and feels fortunate to work with the talented cast and
production team of The Music Man. Past Credits includes, Bye Bye Birdie(TUTS), Joseph(TUTS), Will
Rogers Follies(RCMT), Hello, Dolly!(RCMT) and five FVGSS Pantos. Keira recently played the lead, Lydia in a
short film called Tea Party.
ANGELA KING Dance Captain/Featured Female Dancer
Angela is a biological science student at SFU; a trained dancer and an accomplished pianist and vocalist.
Participated in both Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter

SOPHIE LEROUX Featured Female Dancer
This is Sophie’s fifth TUTS production and she is thrilled to be appearing in the same show in which she
performed her very first role: Gracie Shinn, The Music Man (RCMT, 2005). Thanks to the help of many
directors and companies, she found her passion in musical theatre, and has completed her first year at
Capilano University.
KAZZ LESKARD Charlie Cowell
Kazz is thrilled to be working with Sarah again after their last collaboration, in which he played Inspector
Donohue in The Thirteenth Chair (Studio 58). Kazz is a graduate of Studio 58, and appeared in such shows
as The Crucible, Julius Caesar and 1984. Enjoy the show and thank you for supporting Vancouver theatre.
TAYLOR LEWIS Barbershop Quartet
Previous credits include The Little Tramp in Tramp (Capitol Theatre), Rumpelstiltskin in Grimm
Tales (ITSAZOO), and Preacher Haggler in Dark of the Moon (Phoenix Theatre). It’s wonderful being back
with TUTS after running box office last summer. Thank you to UVic’s Theatre Program, the Thunderbird

Devon’s past performing includes: several years with TapCo, (VTDS’s youth performing company) as well as

Roan has spent five wonderful years at TUTS, beginning with Annie Get Your Gun when she was 11. Since

(Vancouver Opera), and Very Good Eddie (Van Tech). She is a proud winner of the 2008 Aida Broadbent
Award. And yes, she really does play trombone!
STEPHEN STEHRSO Kids Band Ensemble
Stephen is so thrilled to be in The Music Man, his second show ever! His first was in RCYB’s The Nutcracker
in 2010. He is in his school’s drama club and practicing for his Royal Conservatory grade 8 piano exam this

ALLEN UPWARD Barbershop Quartet
Allen is a barbershop singer and performer, and sings in The Vancouver Thunderbirds chorus, and in The
Squares barbershop quartet. By day, he’s an engineer developing alternative technologies which bring
sunlight into buildings for the enjoyment of their occupants and to save energy.
DAVE VINCENT Barbershop Quartet
An entrepreneur and computer programmer by day, Dave has sung barbershop harmony since high school
in Montreal. His quartets include the 1990 Pacific Northwest champion Sonic Boom and Blue Yonder,
his current quartet. Dave also directs the Vancouver Thunderbird Chorus and promotes vocal harmony
singing at Vancouver area high schools.

Aidan is a 9 year old with a true passion for the performing arts. Theatre credits include All The Way Home

LAUCHLIN JOHNSTON Set and Video Design
Lauchlin is a Vancouver-based designer holding a BFA in theatrical design and production from
UBC. Lauchlin’s designs have been seen on a number of local stages including Richmond’s
Gateway Theatre (Mary’s Wedding, Burning In, Summer of My Amazing Luck), Pacific Theatre
(A Christmas Carol, My Name is Asher Lev, Playland, Refuge of Lies), and Chemainus Theatre
Festival (All Shook Up). Elsewhere Lauchlin has designed lighting for three seasons at the Station
Arts Centre in Saskatchewan, and set & lighting for four seasons at Trinity Western University in
Langley. He has received six Jessie Award nominations.
GERALD KING Lighting Design
Gerald is a member of The Associated Designers of Canada. Recent credits include: La Boheme

This is Alex’s third year with Theatre Under the Stars and he is happy to be back once again
to sound design these two amazing shows. Alex Livland graduated from the Art Institute of
Vancouver with a recording arts diploma. He began his career with a local production company
in Vancouver and was quickly given the opportunity to tour Canada with country Singer Johnny
Reid. Recently he has been working with the Vancouver Civic Theaters, The Arts Club Theatre
(Blood Brothers, Sound Mixer) TUTS (Anything Goes, Bye Bye Birdie Designer) and Metro theatre
(Victor Victoria co-designer, mixer). Alex can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the music and voices of these two
outstanding productions.

TERRY HARPER Production Manager
Terry was born and raised in Houston, Texas, where he attended San Jacinto College on a full
scholarship for technical theatre. After college, Terry lit bands such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Heart, Cheap Trick, and Joe Satriani. Later, Terry toured with the Houston Grand Opera, where he
eventually became Technical Director. He spent five years on David Copperfield’s world tour as
Production Manager. Terry moved to Vancouver in 2007 to become the Director of Production
for Vancouver Opera. He loves Vancouver, and last year became a landed immigrant. He looks
forward to many more seasons with TUTS.
RYAN McCALLION Music Man Stage Manager
Three years ago Ryan closed his arts & entertainment law practice in the Yukon to return to
theatre where he works primarily as a Stage Manager, Lighting Designer, and Sound Designer.

HISTORY OF TUTS
A STANLEY PARK TRADITION!
77 years ago, the Vancouver Park Board used funds donated by former Mayor W.H. Malkin to build a band-shell
in his wife’s memory and a summer tradition was born. Malkin Bowl was originally used for afternoon concerts,
until 1940, when a group of local theatre people formed a production company called ‘Theatre-Under-The-Stars’.
Sadly, after twenty years of annual performances, increasing costs forced the original company to abandon Malkin Bowl. There was a gap in Vancouver’s arts scene until 1969, when a determined group of volunteers suggested a format that used largely volunteer casts and crews. Summer theatre returned to the park and has continued
there ever since, despite challenges posed by cost, weather and a fire that nearly destroyed Malkin Bowl.
A crucial part of the TUTS mandate is the training of young performers and stage workers who learn their craft
alongside professionals. The pages that follow list the recipients of TUTS’ annual awards, many of whom have
gone on to work in the arts after getting a start here in Stanley Park. The Grace Macdonald Award is presented
to the most promising dancer; recipients of the Aida Broadbent Award are recognized for professional conduct and performance; the E.V. Young Memorial Fund Scholarships are awarded to the most outstanding
non-professional performers, and the Roger and Cecilia Smith Award recognizes the contribution of the many
volunteer carpenters, painters, stage crew, make-up, costume, ushers and box-office staff who bring magic to
the stage every summer.
When you read the bios of the actors and creative teams who have contributed to this season’s productions,
you will find some newcomers and some who have a long-standing connection to this company. We hope that
tonight, when the curtain goes up and the stage lights go on, you will feel the same thrill so many of us do, and
decide to become an ongoing part of TUTS.

Roger and Cecilia were founding members at the time of TUTS rebirth in 1969 and have been

Cecilia is also our Archivist. She has been a big part of TUTS since appearing in Carousel, which
re-opened Malkin Bowl in 1969, and subsequently playing Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (1970
and 1980) and Miss Lynch in Grease (1984). Her work is a year-round gathering of any materials
related to the continuing story of our society. We have programs dating back to 1940, together with
videotapes, photographs, clippings, audiotapes and posters. Please call Cecilia at 604.988.6041 if you
