100 contemporary artists -- Koln: Taschen, 2009.
"Brings together the most outstanding, influential... artists from ten years of the highly successful
Taschen series 'Art now'. Formative figures of that time feature alongside prominent
representatives of a younger generation which is blazing its own trails. The focus is on the works
and positions, trends and traditions that have repeatedly stirred heated debate - both in the art
world itself and amongst the general public... [It] takes stock, offers a representative selection and
identifies connections between the artists' oeuvres."--Book jacket (v.1).
Arranged alphabetically by artist. Mostly illustrations, with parallel text in English, German and
French.
The Ballets Russes and the art of design -- New York: Monacelli Press, 2009.
"The Ballets Russes was a phenomenon of the early twentieth century, permeating daily life
wherever the company travelled and leaving a lasting impact on dance, theatre, and the visual
arts. Sergei Diaghilev, impresario from 1909 until his death in 1929, fused the most avant-garde,
groundbreaking movements in dance, choreography, art, design, and costume into unique and
stunning productions. The work was exciting, and always new, and it stretched the limits of the
possible in art. The colour, form, and material in costume and set design astonished audiences,
transforming every corner of Western culture in the twentieth century. Fashion and decor
designers and visual artists in particular - including Coco Chanel, Natalia Goncharova, Mikhail
Larionov, Leon Bakst, and Pablo Picasso - found inspiration in the Ballets Russes. Designers and
artists moved past old boundaries and created costumes and set designs for these extravagant
productions, bridging the gaps between tangible and abstract artistic genres. [This book] explores
these revolutionary icons and ideas, illuminating Sergei Diaghilev's profound revitalisation of the
arts, which continues to influence us today."--Book jacket.

an elephant) in Rodgers and Hart's 'Jumbo', to Diana Son's twelfth-grade field trip in 1983 to see
Diane Venora play Hamlet at The Public Theater, from David Henry Hwang's seminal San
Francisco encounter with 'Equus' to a young Beth Henley's epiphany after seeing her mother in a
Green Bean Man costume, 'The play that changed my life' offers readers a unique peek into the

and 90s -- New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008.

musical dramas that have initiated change in the parameters of this popular art form. Starting with
the provocative idea of the “British invasion,” this volume includes analysis of groundbreaking

Rodgers, Janet B.; Armstrong, Frankie
Acting and singing with archetypes -- New York: Limelight Editions, 2009.
The first part of the book contains sixteen archetype journeys.
Based on the workshops of singer and teacher Frankie Armstrong, each archetype journey is
accompanied by preparatory explorations for the voice, body and imagination. The CD, sung by
Ms. Armstrong, provides songs and examples of vocal ornamentation to prepare and assist the
journeyer. The journeys provide opportunities for theatre artists/singers to gain greater access to
their whole being.
Each archetype is not a fully developed character but rather its essence, images, forms, voices,
bodies and a few psychological elements or shards, around which a performer can organize a
portrayal and begin the journey toward full character development.
The second part of the book contains suggestions on how to apply the discoveries to real acting
situations, explaining how to use the archetypes in the creation of multifaceted characters and in
classroom explorations such as mask making, improvisation, monologue, scene and song work
and devising theatre.

Life expectancies : monologues that challenge -- Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann, 2006.
The average life expectancy is about 75 years. But there's another kind of life expectancy, one that
describes how we each feel our life ought to go, ought to be lived. When conflict, obstacles, and
tragedies shake our lives, these life expectancies are challenged, stretched to their limits - and
sometimes they break. For Michael Kearns this friction between expectation and the unexpected is
a wellspring for vivid, authentic drama about everyday and extraordinary people.
