Film Thisclassisahands-onfilmclasswherewelearnaboutfilmmaking,film theory/criticism,actingforfilmandseveralfilmgenresincludingsilent film,documentary,musicvideos,animationandothers.ThisisNOT amoviewatchingclass,thoughwewillcritiqueseveralfilmsoverthe courseofthesemester. GlobalPolitics GlobalPoliticswillfocusoncurrenteventsandtheirbackgrounds.Wewill studyanddebatepolitics,conflicts,humanitarianefforts,andmuchmore! Hospitalityand TheHospitalityandTourismcourseprovidesthestudentwithan Tourism understandingofoneofthelargestindustriesinUtahandtheworld. Specificapplicationsincludemarketing,promoting,andsellingtheproduct ofairlines,internationaltravel,groundtransportation,cruising,hoteland lodging,restaurants,andtours.Studentswilllearntheimportanceof hospitalityandtourismsimpactontheeconomy. ThiscoursefocusesontheoriginsofthemodernScienceFictionand Fantasygenres.Participantswillreadandcriticallyanalyzeshortstories andnovelsbyauthorssuchasH.G.Wells,C.S.Lewis,JulesVern,J.R.R. Tolkien,CarolLewis,RayBradbury,IsaacAsimov,andFrankHerbert. Studentswillreadandcreateliterarycriticismofmodernworksinthese genres.Finally,theclasswilllookatoralandvisualmediumsforthese genres,includingearlyworkssuchasBeowulftomodernentriessuchas StarWars. Thisclassisdesignedforstudentswhoneedadditionalsupportinmath,or forstudentswhowantadditionalenrichmentintheirmathcurriculum. MarketingIisthefoundationforallmarketingcourses.Studentswilllearn basicprinciplesthatleadtocareersinmarketing,finance,hospitality,and management.Studentswillbeintroducedtotheworldofmarketing includingthefreeenterprisesystem.Thesevencorefunctionsofmarketing willbeexamined:MarketingPlanning,Marketing-Information Management,Pricing,Product/ServiceManagement,Promotion,Channel Management,andSelling.Acentralfocusthroughoutthecoursewillbethe developmentofsoftskillsincludingteamwork,oralcommunication, writtencommunication,decision-making,andemotionalintelligence. Thisclassisdesignedtoteachbasicmusicaltheatreperformanceskills.We willdevelopourabilitiestosing,danceandactbothasasoloandinan ensemble.ThisclassishighlyparticipatoryandNOEXPERIENCEIS NECESSARY.Thisclassisinnowayaffiliatedwiththeextra-curricular dramaproductions. Theclassisdesignedforstudentsinterestedintheartofsocialdance, partnerdance.Theclassexploresmanygenresofballroom/partnerdances, basictechniquesrelatedtothestyleofdance,elementsofdance,dance fitness,terminologyanddancehistory. StageCraft Theatre Foundations1 WebPage Design Yearbook Thisclassisdesignedtobeahands-onapproachthetechnicalsideof theatre.Mostofthisclasswillbefocusedonthedesignandbuildingofthe set,propsandcostumesfortheSpringmusical.Studentswillbetaughtto safelyusedrills,hammers,screwdriversandotherbuildingequipmentas wellasscenicpaintingandtheatricaldesign.Studentsmayalsohavethe opportunitytohelpbackstagewiththeSpringmusical. Thisclassisspeciallydesignedtogivestudentsanopportunitytoexpress themselvesthroughtheatre.Overthecourseofthesemesterstudentswill beintroducedtoactingtechniques,theatrehistory,improvisationand playwriting.ThisclassishighlyparticipatoryandNOEXPERIENCE ISNECESSARY.Thisclassisinnowayaffiliatedwiththeextra-curricular dramaproductions. Thissemestercourseprovidesstudentswithamajoremphasisonthe principlesanddesignofawebsiteaswellasadvancedInternetskills. HTML,Webpublishingandgraphiceditingsoftwarewillbeusedtodesign, create,format,andeditwebpages. Thisclassisdesignedforthestudentstocreateandmaketheiryearbook fortheendoftheyear.Thestudentswillworkonaprogramonlineto makesurethatallofthebestthingsabouttheschoolareshownand highlighted.Itisademandingclassthatrequiresfullparticipationthrough theendofthesemesterforallstudents.
