Grade Point Average
Mission: The mission of Faith Baptist Schools is to lead students to a
personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to prepare
college-bound students through an arduous program of academic excellence
by Christ-centered teaching and example.
GPA is based on all courses completed at Faith Baptist Schools from 9th
through 12th grades. Courses taken during the summer at Faith Baptist are
included in the GPA. Algebra 1 and geometry are included in the high school
GPA and posted on the student’s transcript, even if these courses were taken
during junior high school.
Faith Baptist Schools is located in Canoga Park, California, 40 miles northwest
of downtown Los Angeles. Since 1963 Faith Baptist Schools has endeavored
to provide a quality education founded upon the Christian principles of
integrity, dependability, industry, obedience, self-government, and loyalty so
that the practice of these Christian values becomes the rule and not the
exception.
Accreditation
Faith Baptist Schools is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and
Colleges

Class Rank
Students are ranked from highest to lowest based on a weighted GPA.
Valedictorian and Salutatorian standings are awarded to those students
ranked #1 and #2, respectively.
Only the first 20 units taken outside of Faith Baptist while a student is
currently enrolled (whether taken at a neighboring high school or college)
are computed into the student’s GPA, and those classes must be preapproved by either the college counselor or high school principal.
Grades are weighted for all AP and UC Honors-approved college courses
(Honors Anatomy & Physiology, Honors Trigonometry, Honors Math
Analysis). AP and pre-approved college course work are weighted at 0.025
per semester.
Most courses passed with a D or higher are award 5 credits per semester.
Teacher’s aide, some arts, and some athletic courses receive 2.5 credits per
semester. Study halls receive 0 credits.
Preliminary GPA’s and rankings for reporting to colleges are based on marks
achieved in all courses in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades, as well as Algebra 1
and geometry, regardless of the year these courses were taken.

Honors Programs
CSF: California Scholarship Federation is a state-wide organization that honors outstanding high school students. CSF fosters high standards of scholarship, service,
and citizenship. Students must apply each semester for membership, give service to the school or community, and be eligible for 4 semesters to receive life
membership and a gold seal on their diplomas.
National Honor Society: The National Honor Society is an academic honors organization dedicated to actively encouraging, recognizing, and rewarding high academic
achievement in all areas of study. The National Honor Society strives to reward and honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship,
leadership, service, and character.
Mu Alpha Theta: The principle purpose of Mu Alpha Theta is to inspire and stimulate a deeper interest in mathematics. Members are required to have at least a 3.0
GPA and be currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus or a higher-level math class. The students pursue self-enrichment and mathematical discussions as well as offer the
schools’ student-run, free math tutoring service.
Co-Curricular Opportunities and Service
Faith Baptist students have the opportunity to participate in athletics, clubs, and fine arts, as well as serving as teachers’ aides in elementary classrooms and
volunteering in Faith Baptist Day Camp. Leadership opportunities are also available in these activities. While Faith Baptist does not require community service hours,
the students are highly encouraged to give back to their community. Many students volunteer in church ministries, at local area hospitals, and in different children’s
organizations. Students also have opportunities to serve their communities with JSA, American Legion Boys’ State program, and American Legion Girls’ State
program.
