Light is both powerful and gentle and has a myriad of effects. Scientists
agree that light particles, or photons, stimulate effectively the mitochondria,
the power generators of all eukaryotic cells. There is no doubt that the
metabolism of neurons can be modulated by external acoustic- and optic
stimulation signals.
Photons, which are absorbing at mitochondrias support the conversion
of oxygen and nutrients through the oxidative phosphorylation process
and electron transport chain into adenosin triphosphate and promote the
synthesis of DNA and RNA.
The neurons in the human brain are the cells with the highest demand
for energy. To maintain their regular neurometabolic and neurovascular
coupling, the neurons are essentially reliant on intact energy supply.
Therefore, it is understandable that some of the most compelling applications
of medical light therapies are in the field of neurology. Mitochondrial

diseases. We have developed a new approach, the Medlouxx® therapy,
which allows to transfer sufficient light through the scull and the scalp to

Prof. Detlef Schikora
Ass. Professor Schikora, from the University of Paderborn, Germany, is professor of biophysics, inventor and developer
of medical “Medlouxx”, and author of the book “Laserneedle Acupuncture – Science and Practice” together with Prof. G.
Litscher, Med. Univ. of Graz.
Professor Schikora is author of 184 original publications in international scientific journals. He is Member of the board
of the German-Chinese Research Society for TCM.
In 2004, he won the International Research Award of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) and the
Medical Acupuncture Research Foundation (MARF) of the USA.
