Post-doc position in molecular and developmental neurobiology Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology led by Marta B Wisniewska at the Centre of New Technologies (CeNT), University of Warsaw, has an opening for a post-doc position for a period of 3 years. The position is a part of an OPUS project “Transcription factors and afferent connections in shaping molecular diversity of thalamic neurons”. We offer a challenging project, work in a new and well-equipped research center, friendly and stimulating environment, and collaborative opportunities in a laboratory of Zoltan Molnar at the University of Oxford. Background The thalamus is an enigmatic brain structure that is critically involved in sensory perception and awareness, and developmental alterations in the thalamus contribute to affective and psychotic disorders. It is poorly understood how the thalamus develops. To understand how final molecular identities of thalamic neurons are adopted postnatally, we will investigate the effects of transcription factor misexpression and cortico-thalamic misconnectivity on the spatial profiles of gene expression in the thalamus. Job description The post-doctoral fellow will develop animal models of the misguiding of corticothalamic axons, and use CRIPSR/Cas9 technology and in utero injections to produce knock-out mice. She/he will analyze gene expression in selected thalamic nuclei (isolated by microdissection) using hypothesis-free and hypothesis-driven approaches. The fellow will be encouraged to develop her/his own ideas. Depending on applicant’s previous training and experience, she/he will have possibility to be involved in supervising of students and lab management. Job requirements We seek a motivated post-doctoral fellow with a PhD degree in biology or medicine, capacity for logical and critical thinking, and fluent English. An experience in molecular biology and animal experimentation is required. Previous training in neurobiology, skills in in utero and stereotaxic injections in mice or bioinformatics are highly advantageous. Financial terms and start date Full-time position with a gross annual salary of 70 000 PLN (about 50 000 PLN net); planned start date: October - November 2016 (flexible) How to apply Your application should include in PDF format: a short motivation letter, C.V. (including your research experience, main achievements and a publication list), contact information for two referees, and a scan of your PhD certificate. Please send your applications to [email protected] no later than the 30th of September 2016 with the term “Postdoc position” in the email subject line. Selected candidates will be asked for reference letters and invited for an interview (live or Skype).
