 1979 – First issues with Maxville wells investigated by MOE
 1989 – Wastewater system installed to alleviate well





contamination (but did NOT solve problem)
1999 – Detailed analysis completed of wells in Maxville
2007 – Hydrological groundwater study = no sufficient or
sustainable ground water source
2002 to 2009 – 3 Environmental Assessments (EA)
2010 - EA approved = preferred solution Cornwall water

Economic and Health Issues
 Decreasing population in Maxville and Alexandria due to





insufficient and poor quality water
Alexandria water source not sustainable over long term:
costly to treat, near capacity, inhibiting growth
Some wells in Maxville are unsafe to drink, many others
do not produce enough water
Industries have declined to invest due to insufficient water
Maxville Manor spends $95,000 + / year trucking water
MacEwen’s ready to develop residential and commercial
land in Maxville when water is in place
Current Status
 North Glengarry secured 90% funding from Province for




detailed design stage ($3.1 million)
First green light to proceed from EA to detailed design
Design phase: take project from concept to detailed,
tender ready design to quickly move to capital phase
The design is on-track to be shovel-ready in summer
2013.
