30 YEARS OF GADEN CHOLING
We invite you to join our celebration and for a series of
teachings from the Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche
Venerable Zasep Tulku Rinpoche was born in 1948 in the eastern province of Kham, in
Tibet. He was recognised as the 13th incarnation of Lama Chubdak. He was enthroned at
Zuru Monastery at the age of seven, which is the seat of all the lamas in the Zasep lineage.
Later he was again enthroned at Sera Monastery where he began his studies. After
finishing his degree His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama requested Zasep Rinpoche to go to
Thailand to study Vipassana meditation techniques of Theravadan monks. For eighteen
months he did forest retreats and then was sent to Australia to translate for Lama Thubten
Yeshe and Geshe Loden. After three years in Australia he began to teach.
In 1980 Zasep Rinpoche travelled to Canada and taught Buddhist philosophy and religion
at the David Thompson University Centre in Nelson, BC. In 1981, at the request of
Venerable Ling Rinpoche, Zasep Rinpoche accepted the position of spiritual director of
Gaden Choling Buddhist Meditation Centre in Toronto. Zasep Rinpoche has now been
teaching in the west for over twenty-two years. He is knowledgeable in six languages:
Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Thai, Tibetan and English. He is Spiritual Director of more than twelve
Buddhist meditation centres in Canada, Australia and the United States and is the Spiritual
Master of the martial art Tang Soo Tao.

Mindfulness meditation
was originally taught by
the Buddha over 2,500
years ago. The Buddhist
monastic community and
the common people
practiced mindfulness for
centuries. In the west,
people are discovering
mindfulness and
mindfulness meditation
and its benefits. This is a
wonderful gift for our

meditation can be
integrated into our
everyday lives and it is a

calmness, strength,
overcoming stress and
fear, to name but a few
of the benefits.

The Gata: A New Buddhist
Opera
The Gata is a mythopoetic spiritual drama
tracking a woman’s wisdom quest, as told by
a Shaolin Dakini Oracle.
The word shamatha in Sanskrit
(Tib.: shi-ne) means "peacefully
abiding." The image of Lord
Buddha is a most sacred and
powerful object of meditation, and
it is a most beneficial object
because we can develop calm
abiding and great merit by
focusing the mind on the Buddha
image. We will become closer to
Buddha and create the
circumstance to reach
Buddhahood in the near future.
Please join us for a beautiful Buddhist opera
starring our beloved Zasep Tulku Rinpoche
and others from our Dharma community for a
wonderful performance written and directed
by Irene Cortes, our Dharma sister and
member of the Gaden Chöling community.

Powa and Chöd for healing

Gaden Chöling’s 30th
Anniversary Celebration
Phowa, or ‘transference of
consciousness at the time of death,’ is
the simplest and most direct method to
reach clear light and pure land of the
Buddha dur ing t he time of our
departure from this life. Powa practise
is one of the six Yogas of Naropa and
it is taught by all Tibetan Buddhist
traditions.
Join us as we mark 30 years since Gaden
Chöling’s founding. It is one of the oldest
Tibetan Buddhist centres in Canada and has
been a source of refuge for many practitioners
of Buddha Dharma over the years. Many
great spiritual teachers, such as Kyabje Zong
Rinpoche, Lati Rinpoche, Tara Tulku Rinpoche
and HH Khalkha Jetsun Dhampa Rinpoche
have given many amazing holy teachings and
initiations at Gaden Choling.
Our celebrations will began with taking refuge
to three jewels and Chöd melodies. Rinpoche
and some of the members of our temple will
lead chanting, there will be sacred Newari
dancing, a Tibetan-style bazaar, traditional
Tibetan food, a short movie featuring
Rinpoche, stories from elder students from
back-in-the-day and a slideshow/talk from
Rinpoche on Gaden Chöling, Gaden Relief
and his travels in Mongolia.

TUESDAY 31
SATURDAY 28
Chöd practice deals with severing selfcherishing mind and cherishing others.
The word, chöd means “cutting”- of the
self-c her ishing mind. These two
practices are very powerful for quickly
attaining Bodhicitta and realising the
emptiness of inherent existence.
Mahamudra or “Great Seal” meditation is a
unique method of Gelug-Kagyu Tibetan
Buddhist tradition that takes as its object the
true nature of the Mind. A “Mindfulness”
meditation on both the conventional and
ultimate essence of the practitioner’s mind –
Mahamudra is a key that unlocks the most
profound truths of Buddhism.

White Manjushiri Initiation
Manjushri is the Buddha of Wisdom. By relying
on Manjushri we can develop the wisdom eye
with which we can see the entire meaning of
Buddha’s Perfection of Wisdom Sutras. White
Manjushri practise is wonderful for the
realization of mindfulness, awareness, and
especially for improving memory.

Chenrizeg Initiation
Chenrezig (Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara) is the
Bodhisattva of compassion. Chenrezig is one of
the most beloved figures in the Mahayana
Buddhist tradition. He represents the
embodiment of the compassion of all the
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in their tireless work
for the benefit of all beings. $ 40 for GC members
