capital city of Magadha Empire till the time of Lord Buddha. Rajgir is
equally
important
and
relevant
for
Buddhists,
Rajgir was the venue for first Buddhist Council. The council was held
at Saptparni caves. Famous surgeon and Buddhist follower Jivaka lived
here and contributed towards the growth of Buddhism. Rajgir has
many tourist attractions including of Griddhakuta hill, the place
which saw the conversion of Magadha king Bimbisara to Buddhism.
Other places such as the Jail of Bimbisara, Venuvana, are some major
tourist attractions at Rajgir.
NALANDA
90kms south of Patna, literally means the place that confers the Lotus,
it was one of the oldest universities of the world. It had nine million

departure from the mortal world. Later,
Emperor Ashoka erected a huge pillar to
commemorate the spot. Vaishali is
famous for Amara pali, the beautiful dancer and courtesan of Vaishali,
who offered Buddha a Mango orchard and impressed by his teaching

KUSHINAGAR
This is a revered place for Buddhist pilgrims, 55 kms away from
Gorakpur. It was here that the Thathagata, breathed his last with the
last words” Behold now, brethren, I exhort you, saying, decay is
inherent in all components things! Work out your salvation with
diligence! “ A temple dedicated to the event – the Maha parinrvana
temple today stands amidst a serene ” Sal “ grove…… as is still
reminiscing the great demise.
The huge statue of the reclining Buddha, excavated in 1876 at the
temple, is one of the most momentous of all sights for the devout.
LUMBINI
The place where the lord Buddha, known as
the Tathagata* was born.* Tathagata - One
who has found the Truth. The birthplace of
the Gautama Buddha, Lumbini, is the
Mecca of every Buddhist, being one of the four holy places of
Buddhism. It is said in the Parinibbana Sutta that Buddha himself
identified four places of future pilgrimage: the sites of his birth,
enlightenment, first discourse, and death. All of these events
happened outside in nature under trees. While there is not any
particular significance in this, other than perhaps it explains why
Buddhists have always respected the environment and natural law.

After breakfast leave for Sravasti en-route visiting Kapilavastu.
On arrival check-in at the hotel. After lunch visit Sravasti.

KAPILAWASTU
Kapilavastu is the name of a place in the ancient Shakya kingdom
where Gautama Buddha grew up, and which contained his family
home and garden. It is assumed to be some 10 kilometers to the west
of his known birthplace Lumbini. The latter reference point is marked
by an Ashoka Pillar and was granted World Heritage status by
UNESCO The nineteenth-century search for the historical site of
Kapilavastu followed the accounts left by Xuanzang and Faxian.
Archaeologists have identified the Tilaurakot archeological site[2] in
Nepal as a possible location for Kapilavastu. It is widely accepted that
the Lord Buddha spent the first 29 years of his life in the vicinity of
Kapilavastu.
SRAVASTI
Here Lord Buddha performed a miracle to impress upon the nonbelievers by sitting on 1000 petalled lotus multiplying himself a
million times. The Jethawanaya, Anatha pindika’ s abode and
Angulimal caves and Ananda bodhiya are some of the important
sights situated here.

delivered his first sermon after attaining nirvana. Excavations by the
Archaeological Survey of India at Saranath has revealed many
structures which represent facets of the Buddhist history. The
Archaeological Museum, Chaukhandi Stupa, Ashoka Pillar, Tibetan
Temple, Thai Temple and the Deer Park. The Archaeological Museum

Asia. The museum is situated very near the historical ruins. It contains

( B/L/D )
Situated in the state of Bihar,
reckoned
as
the
most
important Buddhist pilgrimage center is the place
where Lord Sakyamuni (Gautam Buddha) entered into meditation
after being moved by the sufferings of man kind. The giant Bodhi tree
that we see today is believed to have grown from the original Bodhi
tree under which, sitting on a raised platform, Prince Siddharth
meditated and finally attained nirwana.
DUNGESHWARI CAVE
Dungeshwari Cave Temples are the ancient caves, located 12 km
northeast of Bodhgaya. These are caves Lord Buddha underwent years
of self-mortification before descending to Bodhgaya. Three main caves
contain several shrines for Buddhists and one for Hindus. It is
believed that when Load Buddha was doing his self-mortification, he
became frail, feeble and starved. When he rested under a Banayan
tree, a doomed village woman named Sujata offered him food. Buddha
accepted her offerings. Thereafter by observing the middle path. he
finally attained enlightenment. Dungeshwari Temple stands as a
