avaBODY- Deodorant
"Use deodorant instead of antiperspirant, since sweat is normal and
blocking the pores is not. Especially avoid aluminum, which is found in
high levels in the brain plaques linked to Alzheimer's disease. And with
deodorants, avoid phthalates, which are plastics used to help the
fragrance stay on our skin and block endocrine function (especially in the
male fetus.) Parabens, which are used as preservatives in these products,
should also be avoided since they could be linked to breast cancer." Dr
Mehmet Oz
The use of antiperspirant deodorant formulas has been subject to a lot of controversy due to the
aluminum base and parabens (chemicals used as preservatives) - among other harsh and toxic
substances such as solvents and some fragrances - that are used in many commercial products.
Aluminum compounds - particularly aluminum chlorohydrate - are easily absorbed through the skin and
have, in the only reported trial to date, already been linked with higher risks of Alzheimer's. Be cautious
of "natural" deodorant crystals as they may contain aluminum, as well.

Ingredient benefits:
COCONUT OIL, Organic - Coconut oil represents a safe and healthy substance with many benefits.
People have been using coconut oil as a skin remedy for centuries. In the Indian Ayurvedic tradition of
medicine, for example, coconut oil is a main treatment for many skin conditions. It is loaded with
vitamin E and fatty acids which are anti-fungal, anti-oxidizing, anti microbial an anti-bacterial. Coconut
oil is also effective on fungi and yeast and skin conditions caused by yeast. When applied on scrapes
and cuts, coconut oil forms a thin layer which protects the wound from outside dust, bacteria and virus.
Coconut oil speeds up the healing process of bruises by repairing damaged tissues. It is an effective
moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable
to that of mineral oil, however, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects
on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing
dryness and flaking of skin. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis,
dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections.
BEESWAX, Organic - forms a barrier on the surface of the skin, providing a film of protection against
irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe. This barrier aids in protecting the tender skin on your
under arms. Beeswax offers anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral benefits, making it beneficial
for treating minor skin irritations.
SHEA BUTTER, Organic - evens skin tone, moisturizes & protects skin, doesn't clog pores, revitalizes,
softens & maintains skin moisture, is naturally rich in vitamins A, E & F which are some essential
vitamins needed for good skin balance, and penetrates deep into skin to maintain and restore elasticity.
COCOA BUTTER, Organic - “theobroma" - the Latin name -means 'food of the gods' and has been used
for centuries in Africa for its moisturizing and healing properties, where it has been used to protect and
condition skin which has been damaged by the sun and wind. It is derived from the cacao bean. The all
natural creamy fat that makes up cocoa butter has been used for centuries to moisturize and care for
the skin. It melts at the temperature of skin and is easily absorbed. It benefits severe skin conditions,
such as dermatitis and eczema, which involve sensitivity, dryness and inflammation of the skin. It sooths
skin and locks in moisture to prevent drying. Cocoa Butter contains natural antioxidants, is naturally rich
in vitamin E as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals, which help to soothe, hydrate, and
balance the skin. Research has shown that massaging the skin with cocoa butter may help relieve stress
and boost the immune system. It is antiseptic. .
ALUMINUM FREE BAKING SODA - Baking soda doesn't clog your pores, it simply makes your armpits
into unwelcome territory for the stinky bacteria. You sweat as usual, but the bacteria can't live there
anymore, and so you don't smell. Bicarbonate soda helps control fungus growth and is a known
absorbent of musty smells (as many a used-book salesperson will happily tell you). It's understandable
that this multifunctional ingredient would be an obvious choice as the active in a homemade deodorant.
It is quite an effective deodorizer. Please do not use when on antibiotics, due to the added opportunity
for rash. If you develop a rash to this ingredient, simply wash armpits with warm water, pat dry and let
air dry.
ARROWROOT POWDER, Organic- Arrowroot powder helps absorb perspiration. It is vegan, no animal
testing, gluten-free, no synthetic chemicals or estrogen mimickers.
TEA TREE OIL, Organic - Tea tree oil, used for centuries by Australian natives, has been proven to be a
powerful yet natural antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal medicine. It is used as a very effective first aid
remedy against countless skin ailments. Tea tree oil is not just soothing and disinfecting, it is effective
against gram positive and negative bacteria and fungi. .
PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL, Organic - peppermint oil are analgesic, anesthetic, antiseptic and
astringent. Peppermint oil is used to relieve skin irritation and itchiness and also helps to reduce skin
redness, where inflammation is present. It is used for dermatitis, acne and also relieves itching,
sunburn and inflammation of the skin, while at the same time having a cooling action.
IMPORTANT NOTE – our deodorant works, because baking soda has been proven to prevent bacteria,
and body odor. Though it is a highly effective deodorizer, sodium bicarbonate is unfortunately on the
harsh side of skin friendly. Baking soda has an average pH of 8.3.
We have skillfully formulated our deodorant with organic butters and oils to reduce the harshness while
remaining effective. Ava deodorant has a ph of 4.8. Skin care products for the most sensitive skin, have
a pH between 5.0 and 5.5. Aloe Vera – which is skin friendly enough for toddlers – has a pH of approx
4.5. The pH of most deodorants lies somewhere between 4.5 and 5.0.
As we have learned, natural products work differently for each of us. The underarm is a sensitive skin
area. Some may develop a sensitivity or mild rash to sodium bicarbonate. Wash with warm water, damp
gently with towel, let air dry, and discontinue use. Only one of our testers experienced this, but we want
you to be aware.
Natural Deodorant Fact Sheet
1. This is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. You will still perspire as you normally do, possibly in
decreased quantities, but you will NOT STINK! Sweating is good for you. It is your body’s way of
releasing toxins.
2. Aluminum-based compounds used as the active ingredient in antiperspirants, form a temporary
plug within the sweat duct that stops the flow of sweat to the skin's surface. Some research suggests
that aluminum-based compounds, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast,
and are absorbed by the skin, cause estrogen-like (hormonal) effects. Because estrogen has the ability
to promote the growth of breast cancer cells, some scientists have suggested that the aluminum-based
compounds in antiperspirants may contribute to the development of breast cancer. (National Cancer
Institute)
3. Directions: Apply gently to dry underarm, and let air dry before putting on clothes. One swipe, left
to right is adequate. Do not apply after shaving.
4. Natural deodorants will feel and work differently than chemical ones on the market. While natural
deodorants traditionally work for just 60% of the population, testing shows that Ava's deodorant works
for a far higher percentage!
5. If you have an allergy to any of these natural ingredients, please do not use Ava Deodorant - coconut
oil, beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, aluminum free baking soda, arrowroot powder, tea tree
essential oil, and peppermint essential oil. Remove deodorant at the end of your day with warm cloth,
to prevent sensitivity to “constant contact” of baking soda.
6. Many have issues with chemical stains on dress shirts from traditional deodorants ... a t-shirt can
prevent the butters in this product from transferring to shirt. In the event you perspire and transfer
butters to clothing, simply pre-treat by rubbing with Ava’s dish soap (formulated to naturally lift
grease/oils) and warm water, and toss in the washing machine. Not recommended for silk or delicate
fabrics. It may stain clothing*.
It works!... finally, a deodorant that works with no parabens, no aluminum, no harmful chemicals,
and all organic botanicals that are healthy for the body.
*Ava Anderson Non-Toxic is not responsible for any removal of stains on clothing.
