Throat Cancer What is the throat? The throat is a five inch long muscular tube. It is the front part of the neck below the chin and above the collarbone. It provides the passage to the lungs and stomach. The throat consists of the pharynx (the region between the mouth and the esophagus) and the larynx (the voice box), and the epiglottis (a flappy piece of skin considered a lid to cover and protect your windpipe from food and beverage).
