Remote real-time access to ACT! without synchronizing! WiredContact is an ACT! Web Client that give you access to ACT! in real-time through your web browser. It is an HTML version of ACT! that enables you to share and update ACT! with your associates anywhere – without synchronizing! New records and changes made to the database are reflected instantly so ACT! users on the network and WiredContact users in the field simultaneously see updates. No synchronization. No administration. It’s a great solution designed for remote sales representatives, casual corporate users, branch or satellite offices, and ACT! users who need access to their database at home, on the road, or at a customer’s office. You get a license number based upon the number of users you need. An ACT! license is required for each remote user, although ACT! is not installed on the remote user’s machine. “Can more than one person login as the same user?” No. If two people try to use WiredContact with the same username at the same time, it will disable the current user. “Can I use more than one database with one license of WiredContact?” Yes! Hardware – Web Server “What type of web server is required for WiredContact!” Windows2000 Professional/Windows NT 4 Workstation for up to 5 users, or Windows 2000 Server/WindowsNT 4 Server (machine does not need to be a server class machine) for more than 5 remote users. You must upgrade to IIS 4 when using Windows NT (available with the Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, free on the Microsoft site). Windows2000 comes with IIS 5. For optimum performance, we recommend at least a Pentium III, 1 GHz with 256MB RAM and 100MB hard disk space. For larger databases, we recommend a 2 GHz with 1 GHz of RAM. “My company’s web site is hosted with an ISP. Can I still use WiredContact? I don’t think we have a web server.” It doesn’t matter where your company’s web site is hosted. WiredContact is a completely separate program. All you need is a machine with Windows2000 or NT and Internet Information Server (IIS) configured. This becomes your web server where WiredContact is installed. Hardware – Remote user “What software is installed on the remote users machine”? WC Architecture “What type of database engine does WiredContact use!” WiredContact does not use its own database engine. WiredContact is simply a web interface to ACT! that makes real-time updates to records directly to the ACT! database. There is no synchronization or other program in the background making the updates. None! There is no software installed on the remote client’s machine. All they need is a browser (Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher) and an Internet connection. “What am I buying when I get WiredContact?” WiredContact is web server software that enables remote users to access the ACT! database on your company’s network using their web browser and the Internet. Upgrades “How are upgrades handled? Is there a fee?” Service packs with new features are available free of charge for download. When there is a new version release of ACT!, there will be an upgrade charge (undetermined) for WiredContact. General “How long has WiredContact been on the market?” Since May 2000. ACT!
