It is extracted from the foxglove plant, Digitalis lanata. Digoxin was regularly used in the treatment of a range of heart-related conditions, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and heart failure that did not successfully respond to other forms of prescribed treatment. Digitek has been shown to pose some serious health risks to the patient. For example, on April 25, 2008, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement to the effect that Actavis Totowa LLC, a U.S.-based manufacturing division of the Activas Group an international generic pharmaceutical company - was initiating a Class I nationwide recall of Digitek (digoxin tablets, USP, all strengths) for oral use. The specific products at issue were distributed by the Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc., under a "Bertek" label and by UDL Laboratories, Inc. under a "UDL" label. The recall was voluntary, the FDA reported, and resulted from a serious concern that Digitek tablets with approximately double the appropriate and recommended levels of ingredients could have been made commercially available to the general public. The FDA explained that (1) the possible existence of double-strength tablets potentially posed a very serious risk of digitalis toxicity in patients with renal failure, (2) illnesses and injuries had been reported in people to whom Digitek had been prescribed; and that (3) “ Death can also result from excessive Digitalis intake .” 2/5 Digitek Injuries Additional Information: - Web MD RX List Amerihealth Specific medical records showing treatment with Digitek must be obtained in order to file a claim on your behalf.
