Jim is a skilled Mass Tort and Personal Injury litigator with 20 years experience for
plaintiffs and defendants
MEDTRONIC SPRINT FIDELIS LEAD LITIGATION
Jim is a member of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee in the Medtronic Sprint Fidelis
lead litigation consolidated in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Medtronic Sprint Fidelis
leads, which are a component part in portable defibrillators were pulled from the
market in October 2007 because fractures had been detected in some lead wires.
There are approximately 268,000 Medtronic leads implanted in patients
worldwide. Medtronic’s Sprint Fidelis defibrillation leads were recalled
following the reporting of major complications and the death of several heart
patients.
AMO COMPLETE MOISTURE PLUS LITIGATION
Jim is a member of the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee in the California
Consolidated Litigation. COMPLETE® Moisture PLUS™, Advanced Medical
Optics contact solution, was voluntarily recalled. Studies show individuals that
use Complete Moisture Plus may be 7 times more likely to get an eye infection
called Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK). AK is a painful condition that can result in
corneal scarring, corneal transplants and blindness.
DIET DRUG LITIGATION
Jim helped acquire and screen over 80,000 diet drug users for heart damage in the
fenphen Diet Drug Litigation.
He managed over 9000 diet drug cases for plaintiffs and 168 referral attorneys
nationwide. He helped develop a national litigation plan, consisting of over 100 support
staff and 5 trial teams.
Jim is a member of the 7th Amendment Liaison Committee. The committee modified the
National Diet Drug Settlement between Wyeth and plaintiffs, and administers and
additional 1.25 billion dollar fund to compensate Diet Drug victims.
PLASTIC PIPE LITIGATION
Jim successfully managed the plastic pipe litigation involving over 60,000
plaintiffs. This litigation involved several jury trials which were tried to
favorable results and ultimately were resolved by a mass settlement and a
national class action settlement.
RADIOACTIVE SCRAP IRON LITIGATION
Successfully handled a commercial dispute where a major chemical company
was shipping scrap iron to China that was tainted with radioactive material. The
incident halted trade between the United States and China for several days.

Jim is married to Nancy Johnson Doyle. They have four children, James who will begin
dental school at the University of Texas, San Antonio in the fall, John, who is a freshman
and member of the baseball team at Bellaire High School, Carly who is in the seventh
grade and a member of the choir and is a competition figure skater and Audrey, who is
in the third grade and enjoys softball and riding her bike.
Jim and Nancy are avid little avid little league supporters and active members of
Second Baptist Church. They also support the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals and are members of the Museum of Natural Sciences.
