cancer drugs (i.e. pill form and injections under the skin)
for seniors and people on family benefits
The Trillium Drug Program (TDP) is intended for Ontario
residents who have high prescription drug costs in relation
to their net household income. In the same manner as the
Ontario Drug Benefit Program, the TDP provides coverage
for prescription drug products listed on the Formulary.
Drug products not listed on the Formulary are also
considered for coverage for TDP recipients through the
ministry's Exceptional Access program. Please note that
deductibles and co-payments will apply to this incomebased program.
New Drug Funding Program (NDFP) for Cancer Care
This program is administered by Cancer Care Ontario on
behalf of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care,
provides about 75% of the overall funding for intravenous
cancer drugs. NDFP funding is for new and approved
intravenous cancer drugs administered in hospitals. The
other 25% is for older drugs approved before the NDFP
was created and is covered by the hospitals' budgets.

The list of NDFP-covered drugs is posted in the Cancer
Drugs section of the Cancer Care Ontario website.
NDFP Eligibility Forms - Eligibility forms specify for
physicians and pharmacists the reimbursement criteria for
intravenous cancer drugs, drug combinations and
indications currently covered under the New Drug Funding
Program (NDFP).
Some new and expensive IV drugs that are not funded
through the NDFP are available for private payment
(either third-party insurance or self-pay), out of province,
or at a private clinic. Some patients are beginning to have
these drugs administered at Ontario hospitals under the
care of their own oncologists for private payment. Each
hospital decides whether to administer unfunded IV
cancer drugs.
The NDFP does not fund IV cancer drugs administered in
private clinics
If you have private insurance, check with your insurer
