Department of Clinical Haematology Nursing Care Plan MUSTEX score of 1-2 (Medium to high risk of malnutrition) Malnutrition can: • Increase risk of infection • Delay wound/mucositis healing • Increase length of stay in hospital • Inform Housekeeper of MUST score • Identify any side effects impacting on nutritional status and optimise drug treatment, liaising with medical team - complete chart below • Offer patients information about side effects of treatment / nutrition and cancer • Encourage patients to choose • Encourage snacks between meals • Offer milky drinks / Build ups / cocktails • Complete food charts - patient may do this if able • Repeat MUST screening weekly • Prior to discharge give patient “Have you a small appetite” or “If you have lost weight….” leaflet if appropriate • If after 3 days, intake has not improved, discuss with ward dietician options from the menu Side effects that could be impacting on nutritional status Side Effects Symptomatic Drug Treatment - has it been optimised?
