Efficient, Cost Effective and Sustainable Self-Delivery of Asphalt for Small Works 1 High level vision with a common theme The NJUG Vision for Street Works The HAUC(UK) Code of Conduct; and The LGA ‘What Good Looks Like’ Represent a detailed set of objectives backed up and endorsed by the DFT “I am very happy to endorse the approach commended in the new NJUG vision. It complements the priorities of the Department on Street Works, of delivering a good quality result first time, every time, doing so safely, whilst minimising disruption and environmental impact.” Robert Goodwill MP- Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport 2014. 2 Clancydocwra & Kier endorse the NJUG Vision Organisations such as Clancydocwra and Kier who are working with us have endorsed the NJUG Vision as associate members “Kier fully endorses the HAUCUK Code of Conduct and NJUG’s vision to promote best practice, safety and quality in the street works sector. We are committed to: Delivering right first time working through high quality standards to minimise disruption Carrying out work to the highest safety standards Using sustainable methods and materials to minimise our impact on the environment Embracing innovation to help us work smarter We will continue to support NJUG and actively participate in its work as we believe we can all minimise disruption while providing first class utility services to our customers.” 3 The NJUG Vision 4 Below is a list of some of the key themes and targets we as an industry are being asked to achieve “Right first time” High quality Minimise disruption Complete work as quickly as possible, or off peak Minimise our impact on the environment Embracing innovation to help us work smarter Avoid unnecessary occupation Taking all practical steps to maximise the use of sustainable methods and materials and minimising the impact on the environment. Actively seeking, promoting and adopting innovative ways of working using new technologies, materials and equipment to reduce the impact of street works 5 Mobile, Volumetric Hot-Mix Asphalt Roadmender Asphalt is a technology that allows you to make your own Hot-Mix asphalt: In just the quantity you need With no waste At the correct temperature Directly at the job site Any time night or day, 24/7, 365 days a year, and Without the need to visit an asphalt plant. Using Performance Grade materials that meet the specifications of: BS-EN 13108 PD 6691:2010, and the SROH 6 SROH compliant 6mm,10mm and HRA wearing course is supplied in 20kg bags 7 Production & quality control Roadmender Asphalt is produced and bagged in an ISO-9001 certified 50,000 sq. ft. factory in Sheffield. The factory adheres to a strict quality management system and factory production controls. 8 9 10 virgin AC 10 close surf loaded into the Roadmender 12 13 Roadmender mobile batch plant The Roadmender Machine used to produce the finished mix is a mobile batch plant that heats and mixes up to 200kg’s of Hot-Mix Asphalt per 6-10 minute cycle. 14 15 16 6-10 minute mixing process During the mixing process, the heat transfer allows the pellets to disperse and melt into the finished mix to produce high quality polymer modified Hot-Mix Asphalt 17 18 7 minutes later 20 21 22 Recycled Breakout 20mm from plant Targets achieved Quality- Polymer modified material Temperature- correct every time No waste No minimum order sizes or out of hours upcharges Time efficiency- Hastings example Start when most efficient- follow back fill teams More same day reinstatements Less patches left open – water damage – fines - accidents Night or weekend – correct materials to get jobs fully closed First time permanent - correct material - no temp to perm Remote locations- Inverness example Recycling- use what's there - save money - be sustainable Capacity cover more patches – less vehicle movement/traffic 25 Congestion Vs GDP and the price of being popular While reduced vehicle movements, less temporary repairs, greater use of recycled materials, faster repair times and improved quality of repairs made possible by the Roadmender system are a valuable asset to Contractors and Utilities: the broader positive knock-on effects to local communities are also highly relevant. A recent study published suggests that a 1 minute per day reduction in traffic delays across all motorists on the road in the UK would lead to a £2.2bn saving in terms of productivity and petrol/diesel wastage. It’s facts like these make it easy to understand why the HAUC, LGA, NJUG and DFT agenda is so critically important to the UK economy, and why we as an industry must do everything we can to both adopt the principals, and meet or surpass the targets we have been set. 26 THANKYOU For more detailed information regarding Roadmender Asphalt, please go to our website: www.roadmenderasphalt.com or contact Harry Pearl: (+44) 07721 454 001 [email protected] 27
