Industry Forum: Consultation on Liberalisation in the Construction Sector
18 May 2010
Ballroom A, Level 1, G Hotel, Persiaran Gurney, Penang
Objectives
The Government of Malaysia has recently liberalised 27 services
sub-sectors to increase the services sector contribution to the GDP
and to further develop the sector to be the engine of growth for the
nation’s economy. Under the ASEAN Framework Agreement of
Services, the construction sector has been liberalised under Mode 3
and is earmarked for further liberalisation in the coming years.
The objectives of the forum are:• To update the construction sector as well as the construction
related services sector stakeholders on trade liberalisation
measures and the implications on their businesses;
• To deliberate and discuss on the way forward to face the
challenges of liberalisation ; and
• To collate the relevant views, responses and proposals on
enhancing domestic capacity and capability to compete in
both the local and global arena .
Hence, the forum aims to discuss the acceptance and readiness of
the Malaysian construction and construction related services
sector towards liberalisation.
