I MPORTANT BATTERY INFOR M A TI ON FOR TR-710 M A NPACK
The battery pack is of NiMH type. To get the most out of your
battery pack and avoid technical problems, a few precautions should
be taken.
4
1.
Always switch the TR-710 “OFF” when charging the
battery. Disconnect the charger before switching the
TR-710 “ON”.
2.
Always charge the battery to full charge when charging.
Avoid charging under 0°C or over + 40°C.
3.
All rechargeable batteries lose charge while stored. The rate
is dependent on the temperature. When stored at 25°C a
fully charged battery will have more than 50% capacity
after a few months, while at 45°C it might be down at 50%
after approx one month.
4.
If the battery has been totally discharged or stored for a long
time, the charger may terminate before full charge is
reached. In this case do as follows:
• Switch OFF the TR-710 and connect the charger for a few
minutes.
• Disconnect the charger, switch the TR-710 “ON”, and
press PTT a few times.
• Switch the TR-710 ”OFF” and connect the charger again.
5.
Never short-circuit, solder, reverse charge, crush,
disassemble or incinerate the battery.
This may result in fire, explosion and severe burn hazard.

1. INTRODUCTION
General information
The Jotron TR-710 represent the latest generation of Jotron Multiuse Radio
Transceivers. The radio operates at the airband 118-137 MHz with chooseable
channel spacing, 8.33 KHz, 12.5 KHz or 25 KHz. The radiotransceiver operates in
accordance to ICAO recommendations and conforms to the requirements of
European Telecom Standard Institute, ETSI, EN 300676 standard. The transceiver
will be delivered with 10 watt, 40 watt PEP, output power. The transceiver will be
supplied as 3 main versions.

Precautions and warnings
Batteries
The batteries are rechargeable NiMh type with a capacity of 12V/4500mAh.
The following should be noticed:
• Do not short-circuit, solder, crush, disassemble or incinerate the battery pack.
This may result in fire, explosion and severe burn hazard.
• Avoid charging batteries below 0°C or above 40°C.
Connectors and cables
When handling connectors and cables, notice the following warnings:
• Do not force plugs in place, as this may damage the pins in the plugs.
• Do not pull the cables when removing connectors from the TR-710, take instead
a firm grip around the connector and pull.
Display and front panel
Avoid touching the display with sharp objects. Scratches can reduce the visibility.
Storage and safe handling
Operating temperature is from -20°C to +55°C. Cleaning of the equipment can be
done with a cloth soaked in a mixture of ordinary dish-detergent and water.
When the radio is used intensive the cooling rib will be very hot.

2. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
TR-710 has an interface
that is easy to use,
with a self-explanatory
graphical display.
Figure A: Keyboard
and display, TR-710.
1 Power ON/OFF.
Turns the TR-710 on and off. Has to be pushed for more than 1 sec. to power
off, in order to prevent unwanted operation.
2 Graphical LCD (Liquid Crystal Display).
The graphical display gives the user information about the frequency, menu settings, choices and status. The graphical LCD has backlighting, making it easy
to see in the dark.
3 Battery Indicator
Indicate the status of the battery, four steps. The indicator flash when the battery
is close to empty. The battery indicator is only visible in Man Pack (MP) mode.
4 Control Wheel.
For changing frequency, channels, volume, squelch and adjusting selected values up and down.
5 Function keys.
For moving through menus and adjusting selected values up and down.
6 Connector for headset or hand-held microphone with PTT button.
A headset or hand-held microphone can be connected here. The connector will
also supply a headset which need a voltage supply.

General operation
There is a menu wheel on the right side of the display. The wheel has three different functions:
• Volume control.
• Squelch control.
• Maneuvering in menus and changing of values.
STANDARD SCREEN
This is the standard mode for the transceiver. In this mode the menu wheel automatically adjust the volume and when it is operated the display gives a graphical
volume indication. The display returns to the standard screen after a break of more
than two seconds. A push on the menu wheel gives the squelch function and the
next push, or a break of more than three sec, will return to the volume function.
By pressing the function keys the user gets access to several functions and menus.
A flowchart of the menu is shown in appendix A.
When a menu is selected, the menu wheel changes its function to menu maneuvering. When submenus are entered the wheel can be used to adjust the actual value.
The maneuvering in menus, and changing of values, can also be carried out by the
arrows (function keys). The display automatically returns to the standard screen
after a break of more than 30 seconds.
If the operator wants to adjust the volume or squelch when a menu is entered, one
push gives the volume function, the next gives the squelch function and the third
push gives the value adjustment.
Pressing the function key "ENTR" enters the actual menu, new values and settings
are also stored by pressing "ENTR".

To escape or return to a higher level, push "CANCEL" (function key).
If the microphone is fitted with an internal loudspeaker the function TX SIDE
TONE has to be set OFF to avoid feedback.
