Better by design
Environmentally aware
Developed for the harshest environments, all
Penny & Giles's joysticks are sealed to at least IP65
above the panel.
The design of those joysticks intended
for use within the access platform
industry, insulates the PCB from the
application of at least 1kV on any
part of the joystick's body. This
improves operator safety and
machine stability in the event of hazards
such as the platform coming into contact
with electric cables.
Those joysticks with significant levels of electronics use
multilayered PCB's and RC filters on all input signals to
reduce the effect of any EMC emissions. Although they
are tested to withstand a minimum 50Vm-1, they can be
designed to meet higher levels specified for particular
industries.
Ergonomically designed
The size and strength of each Penny & Giles joystick, and
its corresponding range of handles, has been specified for
either fingertip, palm or hand operation. Potentiometers,
switches and membrane keypads are ergonomically laid
out to minimise finger movement between operations.
Joystick operating forces have been selected to minimise
operator fatigue whilst ensuring that the joystick returns to,
and remains in, the safe central position when released.
JC 025/030
SINGLE-AXIS FINGERTIP ROCKER
Developed for applications where compact
size and minimal above panel height is
paramount, the JC025/030 rockers are very
low profile whilst still providing precise
fingertip control in one axis.
Designed for use with an electronic
controller, the conductive plastic elements in
the JC025/030 generate analogue and
switched reference signals proportional to
the distance and direction over which the
rocker is moved. The analogue output can
be configured to provide signals for fault
detection circuits within the controller. A
center tap on the analogue track provides an
accurate voltage reference for the center
position or a zero point for a bipolar supply
voltage.
The use of these rockers in a control panel
allows designers to develop very low profile
assemblies whilst still maintaining the
functionality of a much larger single axis
joystick. With the absence of
microswitches and camshafts there is no
need to maintain the rockers throughout
their operating life in excess of 5 million
cycles.
Typical applications include remote control
chest packs and low profile panel
assemblies.

JC 100
SINGLE-AXIS FINGERTIP JOYSTICK
Developed for applications where ergonomics
and system integrity are paramount, the
JC100 is a compact, low profile joystick that
provides precise fingertip control in one axis.
Designed for use with an electronic controller,
the conductive plastic track in the JC100
generates analogue and switched reference
signals, proportional to the distance and
direction over which the handle is moved.
The analogue output is configured to provide
signals for fault detection circuits within the
controller. A center tap on the analogue track
provides an accurate voltage reference for the
center position or a zero point for a bipolar
supply voltage.
Standing only 70mm high, the JC100 is less
susceptible to unintentional operation. With
all of the components in the handle, it is
ideal for mounting in low profile panels and
arm rests. Installation time has been reduced
through the use of a standard electronic
connector, whilst the absence of all micro
switches and camshafts has eliminated the
need to maintain the joystick throughout its
operating life in excess of five million cycles.
Typical applications include remote control
chest packs and the control of agricultural or
material handling equipment.

JC 150
RUGGED SINGLE-AXIS JOYSTICK
Developed for use in those applications
where lever strength and handle
functionality are paramount, the JC150 is a
large, robust, single-axis joystick that can
be easily tailored to your applications.
Designed for use with an electronic
controller, the conductive plastic track in
the JC150 generates analogue and
switched reference signals, proportional to
the distance and direction over which the
handle is moved. The analogue output can
be configured to provide signals for fault
detection circuits within the controller or
the direct control of proprietary electrohydraulic valves. A center tap on the
analogue track provides an accurate
voltage reference for the center position or
JC150 with HKN handle
a zero point for a bipolar supply voltage.
The functionality of the JC150 can be
increased by the inclusion of
potentiometers, switches, membrane
keypads and/or LED displays in its handle.
Deadman’s switches or the Center Lock
handle can be specified to improve the
integrity of your control system. Other
options include Friction Lock (put-and-stay)
and an End Lock handle.
Installation time has been reduced through
the use of a standard electronic connector.
With an expected life in excess of 5 million
cycles*, the JC150 can be used to control
access platforms, agricultural, construction
and material handling equipment.

MULTI-AXIS INDUCTIVE JOYSTICK
A compact, inductive joystick with a life in
excess of 15 million operations and EMC
immunity of 50V/m, the JC200 offers
fingertip control in two axes.
The inductive circuit can be mounted at
45o to the normal axis to provide reference
signals for dual channel motor controllers.
The output voltage range can be further
restricted in one or more directions, by the
selection of the correct gate geometry.
This can be used to limit, for example, the
maximum speed of a vehicle when
reversing around a corner.
Designed for use with an electronic
controller, the inductive circuit inside the
JC200 generates analogue signals
proportional to the distance over which the
handle is moved in either axis. This output
is configured to provide signals for fault
detection circuits within the controller,
whilst a center tap provides an accurate
voltage reference for the center position.
Typical applications include the control of
wheelchairs, fork lift trucks and
agricultural machinery.

JC 600
RUGGED MULTI-AXIS JOYSTICK
Developed for use in those applications
where lever strength and handle
functionality are paramount, the JC600 is a
large, robust, multi-axis joystick that can be
easily tailored to your application.
Designed for use with an electronic
controller, conductive plastic tracks inside
the JC600 generate analogue and switched
reference signals, proportional to the
distance and direction over which the
handle is moved. The analogue output range
can be configured to provide signals for
fault detection circuits within the controller
or the direct control of proprietary electrohydraulic valves. A center tap on the
analogue track provides an accurate voltage
reference for the center position or a zero
point for a bipolar supply voltage.
The JC600’s range of ergonomic handles
feature potentiometers, for three and four
axes of control, switches, membrane keypads
or LED displays. Deadman’s switches or the
center lock option can be specified to
improve the integrity of your control system.
Installation time has been reduced through
the use of standard electronic connectors.
System cost can be further reduced by
replacing the JC600’s interface board with a
CANBUS or PWM controller.
With an expected life in excess of 5 million
cycles and designed to meet a 1KV voltage
test in specific configurations, the JC600 is
currently specified by manufacturers of
access platforms, agricultural, construction
and material handling equipment.

JCP2
MULTI-AXIS FINGERTIP JOYSTICK
Developed for use in those applications
where size and weight are paramount, the
JCP2 is a compact, low profile joystick that
provides proportional finger tip control in
up to two axes.
Designed for use with an electronic
controller, the conductive plastic tracks in
the JCP2 generate analogue reference
signals proportional to the distance over

which the handle is moved. A center tap
provides an accurate voltage reference for
the center position or a zero point for a
bipolar supply voltage.
Standing only 54mm high, the JCP2 is
less susceptible to unintentional operation.
Its minimal operating force makes the
JCP2 an ideal unit for the local or remote
control of CCTV cameras, robots and
cranes.
