24 Pin ATX Power Supply Breakout Board User Manual ATX100 v1.2 ATX Power Supply Breakout Board Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the ATX Power Supply Breakout Board. The kit contains all the parts necessary to construct a fully functional ATX Power Supply Breakout Board. Each ATX Power Supply Breakout Board, used in conjunction with an ATX Power Supply, has the ability to “breakout” all the different voltages supplied by the transformer. This user manual will give you all the information needed use the ATX Power Supply Breakout Board. Please take the time to read the following sections of this manual. Enclosed in this document is information regarding the use of each ATX Power Supply Breakout Board. Be sure to fully understand all the information provided in this manual before powering any ATX Power Supply Breakout Board units. Failure to understand the information provided here could render your unit useless. *Disclaimer! This device uses potentially deadly voltages in operation. If you do not feel it is within your ability to work with these voltages please stop and get assistance, or purchase a ready built product. Improper use of this equipment could be hazardous to life and property and the suitability of use is your responsibility. Seasonal Entertainment assumes no responsibility in the use or operation of this equipment. www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com In the Box When you receive your ATX Power Supply Breakout Board the package should contain the following: Circuit Board Component parts The most recent copy of both the Assembly Manual and User Manual can be found at www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com. Click on the Support page and locate the product you are working on. Applications The ATX Power Supply Breakout Board “breaks out” each of the different voltages that the ATX power supply has. Each voltage, including the +12V, +5v, +3.3v and -12v, are easily connected too via this breakout board. Each voltage is clearly labeled on the circuit board and allows you to connect to each. The device features two LEDs which show when the transformer is powered (Standby) and when the transformer is sending power (Power) to the breakout board. There is also a toggle switch which allows you to turn the power supply on and off remotely. The breakout board can be used to supply voltage to many different devices all through one transformer. You are only limited to the current that the transformer can supply. *The remainder of this manual assumes you have fully assembled your ATX Power Supply Breakout Board unit. If you have not done so, please fully assemble your unit as per the instructions in the Assembly Manual.* www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com Understanding the ATX Power Supply Breakout Board Each ATX Power Supply Breakout Board allows you to connect to the 4 different voltages supplied by your ATX power supply. It consists of a 24 pin ATX power supply connector, a toggle switch, status LEDs and power connectors. Each board can handle very high currents but is limited to the currents supplied by the transformer that is connected to it. Power Connections Power is supplied to the unit via a 24 pin ATX power supply connector. The connector can only be inserted into the plug in one direction. Be sure to make sure all 24 pins are lined up and press it onto the plug. Connection outputs are located on the bottom edge of the breakout board. Each voltage is clearly labeled and each voltage has its own ground connection. Be sure to tighten the screws onto the connection wires to ensure a good electrical connection. Initial Power Once the connector is plugged in, and the transformer is powered on, the Standby LED will light. If the Standby LED does not light, ensure that the power switch located on the transformer (if it has one) is turned on. Once the device is powering the breakout board (meaning you have turned on the toggle switch) the red Power LED will light. Toggle Switch The toggle switch is used as a remote power switch. This way, the transformer can be located in one location and still be turned on and off. If the transformer is power, meaning plugged into an outlet, the green Standby LED should always be lit. Only when the toggle switch is turned to the “On” position will the red Power LED light and power flow through to the device. Waterproofing Each ATX power supply connector is not waterproof and was not designed with any particular enclosure in mind. Standard electronics cases are available at typical box stores, like Lowes and Home Depot, but no particular box should be used for this device. In most cases the ATX power supply connector can easily fit into these cases. Just remember that these breakout boards should not be left out to the elements and need to be protected from moisture as much as possible. www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com You’re Done! That’s it. You have completed the installation of the ATX power supply connector. Now you have all different power voltage choices at your disposal. Troubleshooting If you are having a problem, check out the Support page on www.seasonalentertainmentllc.com. There you will find a list of common problems that should be able to help you along.
