ROBO-FESTINATE PROBLEM STATEMENT An autonomous line tracking robot has to be made, which can traverse a path that runs through junctions, breaks, unusual curves and pointed angles. The machine should follow the line without deviating from it. The aim of the event is to check the stability and sensing capabilities of the robot in comparison with other opponents. RULES & REGULATIONS: A maximum of 3 participants are allowed in a team. Participants from different educational institutes can form a team. The robot will follow the black lines painted on a board painted white. The width of the track will be 20 cm throughout the track with possibility of some error. The robots can have onboard or external power supply. 220V/50Hz mains will be provided. However, no adapters or chargers will be provided. The event consists of two rounds: - Elimination round and the Final round. Only the teams qualifying the elimination round will be allowed to participate in the final round. Any team that is not ready at the time specified will be disqualified from the competition automatically. Each team will be given 2 trials out of which the best time will be considered by judges. Nudging/Pushing or any type of manual handling of the robot will lead to cancellation of that run. 5 minutes will be given to each team for calibrating their sensors on the track before their first run. During the run, the machine can expand itself provided it does not damage the arena in anyway. However, it is not allowed to leave anything behind or make any marks while traversing the arena. No machine can separate or split into two or more units. All machines found damaging the arena will be immediately disqualified The organizers reserve all rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit. Change in rules, if any will be highlighted on the website. ROBOT SPECIFICATION: Maximum size for Robot is 25cm x 25cm x 25cm Machine cannot be constructed using readymade Lego kits or any readymade mechanism. At no point on the robot the voltage should be greater than 24V. The operation of the robot cannot depend on the lightning conditions which may change during the event. Once a robot has crossed the starting line it must remain fully autonomous, or it will be disqualified. The robot must have a working and easily accessible on/off switch. Connecting and disconnecting the battery to perform this function is unacceptable. Elimination round RULES This round will have a simple track & maximum of 5 min will be given to finish the track. Each team will be given 2 trials. Only the teams qualifying the elimination round will be allowed to participate in the final round. If the team member wishes to touch the robot after the robots starts from the start line, a 5 second penalty will be levied. However such a chance will be given only once in the first round. If none of the robots are able to complete the track, then the distance covered will be criteria for elimination and proceeding to the next round. The track resembles the given figure. Final round RULES Winners will be determined by the highest number of points. In the event of a tie in points, winner will be determined by the robot with the shortest time for successful completion of the course. There will be several stages, each of increasing complexity. Completion of each stage adds points to the score. Robot can skip a stage. Each team will be given 2 trials. The organizers reserve all rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit.
