8 Issue N°6-7 • June-July 2009 Position Sensor Industrial Tachometers for harsh environments for measurements with or without contact The Positape WB17KT series of stainless steel tape sensors come with measurement ranges of 3,500mm, 6,500mm and 10,000mm. The robust sensor features a very compact housing specifically designed for rugged and harsh environments. Building upon this proven technology, the series replaces the measurement cable with a thin, highly flexible stainless steel band. The WB17KT operates in a similar manner as a tape measure. Due to the smooth surfaces of the tape, the risk of ice build up is reduced and an optional brush is available to wipe off debris from the tape as it is being retracted. The WB17KT series is available with analog 010V, 4-20mA or 1kOhm outputs. The sensor also comes with either absolute digital SSI or CAN-Bus outputs. The electrical connection can be made with either a M12 or D8 connector. The C.A 1725 and C.A 1727 offer a range of measurement possibilities, with or without contact. Measurement by photoreflection for no-contact measurement: a reflective strip is positioned on the part to be tested. The optical sensor avoids external interference and the active, modulated infrared beam guarantees true measurements. For traditional contact measurement, a mechanical adapter (cylinder, cone or calibrated wheel) converts the rotation speed into pulses which are then measured by the tachometer. The third possibility is provided by an external input which can be used to connect the tachometers to a large number of sensors delivering voltage signals. Both models are equipped with MIN, MAX and measurementsmoothing functions. In addition, the C.A 1727 offers user-definable alarm thresholds and the possibility of recording and processing the data via its USB output with the TACHOGRAPH software. The digital display is a genuine control panel showing a 42-segment bargraph and all the useful information. It withstands the heat and high wash pressures of sanitary operations. It is the first ultrasonic sensor with both hygienic design using FDA-approved materials and IP69K rating for use in harsh environments. These features assure reliable performance in bottling plants and other demanding food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications. The sensor operates over a wide temperature range of –20 to 70°C and can withstand high pressure sprays at up to 100 bar/10MP and harsh chemicals for cleaning. It uses stainless steel transducers to create and receive the ultrasonic signal instead of traditional ceramic transducers that cannot survive in washdown conditions. For easy cleaning and disinfecting, the smooth 316 stainless steel housing has no threading, gaps or seams to trap contaminants. ECOLAB certification is pending. The sensor detects presence or absence of clear or coloured containers during sanitizing or other clean-in-place procedures. The powers and the operating values of three phase asynchronous electrical motors are valid under the conditions that it is in continuous running (S1) and the nominal voltage is 400V ±%5, the frequency is 50Hz, the ambient temperature is a maximum of 40°C and the attitude of the place of usage is maximum 1,000mt above the sea level. The motors are convenient for Delta 230V / Y 400V connection under 50Hz frequency for powers of 3kW and less. Where it is convenient for Delta 400V / Y 690V connection for powers of 4 kW and more. The motors were designed to operate with values 50Hz - 400V and 60Hz - 480V. Except from the standard applications, the company has also production of motors which could run under desired voltage and frequency. Except from these, for preventing the humidity in the windings of the motor, water condensation can be prevented by keeping the temperature steady inside the body by optional heater application. They allow ‘breathing’ but can withstand driving rain or event total immersion in water up to 1m. Many electronic products produce heat which can cause a build-up of pressure within their enclosure, and without adequate venting and breathing the lightweight material could fracture. But the lightweight materials used in the manufacture of specialist electronic products often give designers a dilemma of either restricting the applications or increasing the strength of the enclosure. Brownell’s immersionproof breathers, made from engineering plastics, can pass high flow rates of air resulting from rapid changes in temperature and pressure. They can be screwed in place or mounted using a locking nut that is supplied, or can be mounted with desiccator tubes to remove moisture vapour. The solution consisting of dosing unit, step motor and control system is therefore able to dose various media with different viscosities and also with solids contents sequentially in a highly precise way (repeating accuracy almost 100 percent). Also regarding the purity of the medium to be dosed the dosing valve denies no wishes. The medium is lead through a highly clean channel by plate cams so that the chemical properties of the medium to be dosed remain the same both in front of and also behind the valve. Because of the above-mentioned characteristics the valve can be cleaned quickly and thoroughly when it is installed. The micro-dosing valve is recommended to be used in the paper, pharmaceutical and chemicals industry as well as for the areas medical technology, automotive, mechanical engineering and laboratory technology. Designed for easy integration, the CM sensor can easily replace traditional contact probes with a J-type or K-type thermocouple output, or with a userscaleable 0-5 volt output, if the application is susceptible to noise. The Raytek CM includes precision, high-resolution silicon optics. A RS232 digital interface allows the user to configure all programmable sensor variables via the Multidrop software. These include a 24VDC alarm output triggered by target temperature or head ambient temperature; peak hold, valley hold or variable averaging signal processing; adjustable target emissivity settings; and adjustable window transmissivity setting. A built-in sensor health LED provides a convenient on-line indicator of the sensor's operating status and aids in troubleshooting initial sensor set up. The Raytek CM sensor is designed to measure target temperatures ranging from -20 to 500°C. Its onboard electronics are protected by a rugged IP65 stainless steel housing.
