Aristocrat® Flowering Pear
A pyramidal, deciduous with lustrous, dark green shimmering leaves with a wavy edge that
makes it distinct. Fall color ranges from yellow to red, and masses of white flowers cover the
tree in early spring. Adaptable for all areas and makes an excellent ornamental tree for spring
color. This low water tree has an average landscape size of 30"T x 15"W.
Arizona Ash
A fast-growing, deciduous, shade tree that withstands hot, dry conditions and low water usage.
Pyramidal when young; spreading, more open when mature. Average landscape size is 45"T x
35"W.
Bald Cypress
Large, upright tree that thrives in wet waterlogged conditions as well as rather dry soil. Foliage
turns bright orange-brown in fall. Pyramid shaped when young and rounded with age.

Bradford Pear
Upright symmetrical growing ornamental tree with white flowers in early spring and purplish red
foliage in the fall. Many other flowering pear varieties, each with different flowering qualities and

Bur Oak
Large rounded, deciduous shade tree native to Texas. Yellow fall color. Large ornamental

Large, deciduous shade tree with beautiful fall color; scarlet, crimson, orange, sometimes yellow

shapely several years later, averaging 60"T x 50"W.
Dogwood
Small rounded ornamental, deciduous tree noted for its profusion of beautiful pure white flowers
in early spring. Leaves have red fall color. Native to East Texas; averaging 25"T x 20"W .
Performs best in high shade; screen from hot western sun and prefers well-drained acid soils.
Many different varieties available including pink and red flowering varieties.
Globe Willow
Large, spreading, round-topped shade tree that is tolerant to heat, drought and poor soil.
Deciduous tree good for most areas in full sun. Tree averages 60"T x 60"W.
Japanese Maple
A round-headed, delicious tree with deeply lobed leaves which can turn a magnificent color of
orange to yellow or red in fall. Small, purple-red flowers are followed by red fruit in late summer.
Shade is important for this tree; size varying by variety. Some are excellent choices for small
gardens, large containers and bonsai.
Little Gem Magnolia
This compact, upright, evergreen shrub is one of the smallest of the magnolias. The lustrous
dark green leaves are covered with a bronzy brown pubescence below. With creamy-white
flowers bloom from midsummer to fall. An excellent flowering shrub for smaller places with
partial shade; also makes a good medium sized screen or hedge plant, averaging 25"T x 15"W.
Live Oak
Large native Texas shade tree with broad, spreading, heavenly-limbed crown. Long-lived and
sturdy, with low water use. One of our best shade trees at an average landscape size of 60"T x
70"W. Evergreen in all but most northern parts of the state. Escarpment Live Oaks are best
suited for western areas of the state.
Loblolly Pine
This evergreen is loosely pyramidal when young, and becomes more rounded with age. One of
the fastest growing southern pines, this variety has scaly gray bark that becomes deeply
furrowed with age. Prefers acid soil and requires little water. Good for a fast screen in early
years, averaging 50"T x 30"W.
Loquat
Small rounded ornamental, evergreen tree. Fragrant flowers in fall and winter followed by edible
bright yellow fruit in summer for most areas. Attractive tropical foliage good for indoor
decorating, averaging 20"T x 20"W.
Mimosa
Fast growing flat-topped ornamental tree. Usually multi-trunked. Beautiful pink fluffy flowers in
early summer. These deciduous trees are good for all areas and average 25"T x 46"W.
Pecan
The state tree of Texas. A large, graceful, shapely tree valued for both its shade and delicious
nuts. Many improved paper-shell varieties available. This deciduous tree is good for all areas
and averages 70"T x 60"W.
Purpleleaf Plum
Small, ornamental tree with beautiful light pink flowers in spring followed by deep purple foliage.
This deciduous tree comes in several varieties for different areas, and the average size 20"T x
20"W.
Red Maple
Fast-growing, deciduous shade tree with beautiful fall color. Needs ample moisture and acidic
soil. Native to East Texas with an average size of 40"T x 25"W.
Redbud
Small, rounded, ornamental tree with small, rosy-pink flowers in early spring before leaves
appear. Deciduous tree native to Texas, averaging 25"T x 25"W. Choose from several improved
and selected varieties that are good for all areas and easy to grow, requiring little water.
River Birch
A fast-growing, moisture-loving shade tree. Noted for its beautiful bark that flakes and curls on
older trees. Often grown in clump form with an average size of 60"T x 30"W. This deciduous
tree works best in East Texas.
Saucer Magnolia
Small, ornamental, flowering tree. Beautiful pinkish-red flowers before leaves in early spring.
Many other ornamental magnolias available. This deciduous tree grows to an average 20"T x
15"W.
Shumard Red Oak
Large majestic rounded, deciduous shade tree with open branching habit with a brilliant red to
yellow fall color. Roots grow deep. Native oaks need to be planted in soil types similar to their
native habitat; there are many varieties of native Texas oak averaging 60"T x 50"W.
Southern Magnolia
Large upright, evergreen tree valued for its large glossy foliage and large fragrant flowers that
bloom in summer. Native to East Texas. Many improved grafted varieties available with superior
flowering quantities and growth characteristics, averaging 70"T x 40"W.
Southern Wax Myrtle
Rounded, deciduous or evergreen shrub with upright branches and aromatic, glossy olive-green
leaves. This wispy, broadleaf evergreen makes an excellent pruned screen, and can be pruned
to form an attractive small tree to expose the handsome gray to white bark. With good watering
and fertilizing they average 15"T x 10"W.
Sweetgum
Large shade trees, averaging 70"T x 40"W. These deciduous trees are upright and somewhat
cone shaded when young spreading with age. Leaves turn purple, yellow or red in fall. Native to
East Texas, and now in several improved selections available include, "Rotundiloba", a fruitless
selection.
Sycamore
Fast-growing deciduous shade tree that tolerates most soils. It stands up beautifully under city
smog, soot, dust, and reflected heat. Sycamores, doing well in all areas, do best with deep
watering in summer. Although native to Texas, improved varieties are available. The average
landscape size for a Sycamore is 70"T x 35"W.
Water Oak
A large round-topped shade tree that is quite adaptable on moist wet sites. Semi-evergreen in
southern portions of the state, and deciduous in all other areas. Native to east Texas, and
prefers acid soil. This large tree has an average landscape size of 60"T x 50"W.
Weeping Willow
Very fast growing shade tree that tolerates poor soils and soil drainage. Requires plenty of
space and water, they can average 60"T x 50"W, so these deciduous trees are best used near a
stream or lake, but are good for all areas of Texas.
Yaupon Holly
A small, ornamental tree native to Texas grown as a multi-trunked specimen. Beautiful white
bark, with bright red fruit persists all winter long on female plants fruit. They are good for all
areas and requite little water. The average landscape size of this evergreen is 20"T x 15"W.
