Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Black Beard’ is a new selection from breeder Steve Yandell. This new variety
of the Black Mondo Grass is a much more vigorous grower than the common Ophiopogon planiscapus
‘Nigrescens’ with leaves up to 30 cm in length on mature plants. The increased vigour and suckering
of ‘Black Beard’ makes it a faster plant to establish in nursery production. Due to the good hardiness
of Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Black Beard’ it should make a fantastic evergreen patio container plant in
many regions throughout Europe, even in the colder climates.
