READING COMPREHENSION
1 PONDS
Ponds are small areas of still fresh water. They are different from rivers or streams because they don't have moving water.
They are different from lakes because they are small and they aren't deep.
Some ponds are formed naturally but other ponds are made by man.
Ponds are living areas with acquatic plants and animals.
4
2 PLANTS LIVING IN THE POND
Some acquatic plants live in the pond. They help to balance the pond ecosystem and they give food to animals living inside and around the pond.
Tin roads have a stem and leaves
Water lilies have large leaves and floating flowers
5
3 ANIMALS LIVING INSIDE AND AROUND PONDS
Inside ponds live fish, frogs, froglets, tadpoles and ducks.
Around ponds live kingfishers, warms, ducks, dragonflies and insects.

READING COMPREHENSION
LIFE CYCLE OF A FROG
A female frog lays a hundred of eggs and then a male fertilises them. A layer of jelly holds the eggs together and gives them protection.
Few weeks later a tadpole goes out of the egg. After a few days appear the external gills, the tail becomes longer and the fins develop.
Then the external gills disappear and the back legs grow. After that the tadpole becomes froglet and develops front legs and lungs.
Finally the tail disappears and the froglet turns into an adult frog.
1 ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
1. Who lays hundred of eggs? 2. Who fertilises eggs?
3. When does a tadpole go out of the egg?
4. What happens after a few days? 5. When do external gills disappear?
6. What does the tadpole develop when it becomes a froglet?
7. When does the froglet become an adult frog? 11
