Dense, upright-‐spreading tree reaching 15' in height and width. Flower buds deep red, opening to single, pinkish-‐white, 1.4" diameter flowers. Fruit bright red to orange-‐
red, often lighter on the shaded side, profuse. Subject to slight scab, fire blight, and powdery mildew (Nichols). Fruit attractive to birds. Plants sold by nurseries are usually inferior seedlings of sieboldii 'Calocarpa'; plants should be vegetatively propagated from Arboretum plants of documented origin.
Small spreading-‐weeping tree reaching 12' in height and width. Flowers single, white from red buds, extremely profuse; fruit small, about 1/4" across, brilliant orange-‐red, persistent. Fall color bright yellow. Completely disease resistant (Nichols).
Mike Yanny comments that this has exceptional disease resistance and should be further evaluated (431). Lovely large, pure white flowers with no hint of pink; very profuse; really stands out in the landscape; quite upright as a young tree (MH)
Upright habit suitable for street tree use. Leaves dark green; flowers single, white, about 1/2" across from pink buds. Fruit bright red, persistant. Named for Richard Walters, former City Forester in Maplewood, NJ.

These trees are from Beverly Nursery in Indiana, where they were a chance seedling in a nursery row. They are currently under evaluation at Bailey Nurseries, who will take care of the naming and patenting of the trees should they prove to be worth patenting. In 2000 the trees were 8-‐10' tall and 7-‐8' across. It is believed that these trees are a cross between Malus 'Prarie Fire' and 'Louisa'. They show little scab succeptibility and have early fruit drop, so they may be good for use as street trees. From a conversation with Dave Allen IOCS.
A rounded tree reaching 25' in height and 30' in width. Leaves glossy green. Flowers pink in bud opening white. Fruit 0.4"-‐0.5" across, yellow with a red-‐orange blush, persistent and softening irregularly throughout the winter thereby providing a continual source of bird food. Some scab.
A medium sized tree to 18' with a rounded habit bearing single white flowers which produce yellow fruits. Resistant to scab, rust, fireblight and powdery mildew.
A dwarf flowering crabapple with a rounded compact habit, growing to 10' tall and 15' across. In spring the flower buds are deep pink, opening to light pink flowers followed by dark green foliage. The bright red persistent fruit begins to color in early autumn and remains showy throughout the winter months. Disease resistant.
Fiala lists this as "name only; subject to moderate scab, otherwise the 26 trees tested were disease resistant (Nichols)" This is a really ugly tree in flower! (MH)
Plants reach 8' in height and 5' in width with an upright-‐rounded habit. Flowers are bright red in bud, opening to white; foliage is lobed, and fruit is 1/4" across, gold. Lake County notes this is a disease resistant selection.
Small tree, 20-‐30' tall with a short trunk and widely spreading graying branches. Flowers single, white tinged with rose, 1.5"-‐2" across, sweetly scented. Fruit yellowish-‐green, 1"-‐
1.5" across, very harsh and acid.

Small upright-‐spreading tree reaching 12' in height and 10' in width. Flowers rich carmine in bud opening to white semi-‐double and double flowers. Fruit bright lemon-‐yellow darkening to gold after first frost, 0.4" across, abundant, persistent until mid-‐November. Disease-‐resistant (Nichols).
A dense upright compact tree growing to 10' tall by 8' across. Flowers are single, and white. Foliage is deeply lobed. Small gold fruit stay on the trees through the fall. The branching pattern is upright and heavily spurred.
A small rounded tree reaching 20' in height; flowers single, white from pink buds; fruit gold, 1" across, persistent into late winter; disease-‐free (Nichols). A choice clone that has been overlooked.
A rounded tree reaching 15' in height and width. Flowers showy rose-‐pink, single. Fruit ellipsoid, glossy red, changing with frosts to orange, persistent until spring; a heavy bearer. Moderate scab susceptibility that does not affect foliage or fruit. There appear to be several clones; Lester Nichols (Penn. State) thought that the trees at Falconskeape Gardens, Medina, OH, were superior to most others by the same name. Simpson number 11-‐63.
A very compact dwarf selection growing to 10' x 10' Flowers are rose-‐red. The young foliage is a deep burgundy-‐wine heavily frosted silver maturing to burgundy-‐green with a silver frost. Fruits are 1/2" and dark red.
Upright pyramidal tree reaching 18' in height and 12' in width. Flowers single, white; fruit bright cherry red, persistent in color until mid-‐
December. Subject to very mild scab (Nichols).
Plants reach 15' in height and width developing a rounded habit; flowers are red in bud, opening white, single, profuse; foliage is dark green; fruit is extremely profuse, bright red, anout 1/2" across. Disease resistant (Nichols). Named by Lester Nichols who thought this was an exceptionally good cultivar.

Upright to rounded tree with bronze-‐green to dark green leaves. Flowers dark red in bud opening to single, purple-‐red flowers about 2" across, very showy. Fruit red, 3/4" across, not very showy. Mild scab scab but otherwise good disease resistance. One of the few rosyblooms that can be recommended although fruit is large enough to be messy in paved or urban areas. One of Isabella Preston's "Lake Series" named for Lake Makamik in western Quebec.
A broad spreading tree with alternate bearing, single white flowers followed by yellow fruits which are persistent. Resistant to scab.
Rounded tree reaching 20' in height. Carmine flowers age to dull pink; fruit red, a bit on the large side, 0.8" across. Disease free (Nichols). A second generation Rosybloom.
Medium-‐sized upright to rounded tree with good leaf color. Flowers deep pink in bud opening to abundant clusters of very showy single pink flowers. Fruit 0.4" across, dark red, persistent. Good disease resistance.
A compact, rounded medium-‐sized tree with profuse, deep pink single flowers and small, orange-‐red fruit. Disease resistant.
Moderately upright to rounded tree reaching 20' in height and width; young leaves red-‐
maroon maturing to deep green. Flowers single, red-‐purple, about 1.5" across. Fruit spheroid, about 0.5" across, deep purple-‐red. Disease free (Nichols).
A vigorous, sturdy, horizontally branched tree that is wider than high. Leaves unusually dark green; flowers red in bud, opening white, single. Fruit deep red, 1.25" in diameter, persistent, not dropping until spring. Subject to mild scab (Nichols). Named to honor the pathologist in charge of breeding programs at Purdue University, Lafayette, IN.

Upright spreading tree reaching 25' in height and width. Leaves emerge reddish, maturing to bronze-‐green. Flower buds crimson, opening to rose-‐mauve. Fruit 0.6" across, glossy, dark wine-‐red, hidden by the fall foliage. Excellent disease free rating (Nichols).
An improved Brandywine ®, double flowers are two shades brighter, ruffled and have a higher petal count. Very distinct fruit is a unique pumpkin color and shape, complete with striped markings. Fruit is persistent, most lasting into the spring. Fruit is 1/2 the size of Brandywine ® crabapple. Produces a full, dense canopy of attractive hunter-‐green foliage that has a handsome burgundy overcast. Disease resistant.
Plants reach 12' in height and 10' in width; leaves very dark green; buds bright carmine-‐
red opening to single white flowers; fruit 0.6" across, brilliant orange-‐red, coloring very early in August and persisting through October when consumed by migrating birds. Disease free (Nichols). Differs from 'Calocarpa' in having slightly smaller fruit that colors three weeks earlier and is bright orange-‐red rather than red, and is not as persistent, being attractive to migrating birds. Seed collected at the Ohio State Agricultural Experiment Station and grown out at Falconskeape Gardens, Medina, Ohio.
Rounded to oval densely branched tree reaching 20' in height and width. Flowers pink in bud opening white, single; fruit is small, red, holding its color into December. Disease resistant. Spectacular in flower (MH).
A weeping small tree reaching 15' in height and width with somewhat unique, downward branching; leaves large, glossy, dark green, leathery; flower buds brilliant red opening to large, single, profuse, white flowers; fruit colors early in the season to a bright orange-‐
