Why we love it…
Wax-leaf privet is an old fashioned plant
that has been popular in landscapes for years. It
has been commonly used for hedging, screening,
and topiary because of its dense growth and how
well it responds to pruning. Ornamental blossoms
cover thick, waxy leaves in late spring and
summer, transforming into berries that birds
adore.
Wax-leaf privet is very easy to keep at
whatever size you desire simply by shearing;
though frequently pruned plants tend to flower
less. Plant this evergreen shrub in a location with
lots of shade or morning sun, and in a soil that
drains well.
Lydia says: Wax-Leaf Privet appreciates
frequent irrigation to maintain its quality
foliage.
