SPECIAL ATTENTION: is called to the Hall Exhibitors Handbook printed in the beginning of the Prize List.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to limited space your containers will only be kept for 2 weeks following the fair and then
be donated to the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.
EXHIBITOR INFORMATION
ENTRY FEE: 75 cents per class. Minimum fee of $1.50 if only one class entered plus Exhibitor Ticket unless current
IPE membership held.
PRIZE MONEY:
1st $5.00, 2nd $3.00, 3rd $2.00 unless otherwise stated. (only 1 - 1st, 1 - 2nd, & 1 - 3rd, will be awarded in each class)
RULES
All flowers must be grown by the Exhibitor in the open classes.
No hot house flowers permitted. in any class.
Colour variation allowed unless colour specified.
Plants must be the property of the exhibitor for at least two months (this rule does not apply to decorative
classes).
Please bring your own containers. Containers used for floral entries MUST be CLEAR GLASS, except where
bowls are specified in bench classes, arrangements not included.
Definition of “bowl” - is wider than it is high Definition of “vase” - Is taller than it is wide and has a small opening.
Definition of “basket” - must have a usable & accessible handle.
Definition of “novel” - unusual in an interesting way.
Association not responsible for valuable containers.
No points allotted for containers.
Carafes in half litre and litre sizes donated by Casabello Wines, Penticton will be available to use as containers for
some cut flowers & rose entries.
A table will be provided to prepare entries. A MEMBER of the floral committee will assist the exhibitors where
needed. Judged by B.C. Council of Garden Club Standards.

CUT FLOWERS
NOTE: Cut Flowers will be judged on:
Form - Uniformity, proper shape, and proper petalage.
Stem & Foliage - strength and/or straightness,
quality,size and proportion.
Colour - Uniformity, intensity, clarity and brilliance.
Size - Uniformity, and proper size for variety.
Condition - must be free of blemish, pests, disease
and damage.
DEFINITIONS
ANNUAL: A plant that grows, blooms, seeds and
dies in one year, and is reproduced from seeds.
PERENNIAL: a plant that lives for more than two (2)
years from the same root, bulb or tuber each year,
wintering either in or out of the ground.
BLOOM: a single flower on a stem without side
buds. For a Roses blooms with no side buds
1/2 to 3/4 open, having a high pointed center.
CUT: a branch with leaves, flower & buds or
blossoms.
FOLIAGE: the leaves of any plant or stems bearing
only leaves colour variation allowed
SPRAY: a cluster of blooms at the end of a cane. A
spray should have 2 or more blooms, (note a bud is not
a bloom)
Bud: one bud, sepals sown, showing colour and not
more then a quarter open.

ROSES

Incorrect naming of any rose will NOT result in
disqualification although is should not be encouraged.
Specimen Blooms: 1/2 to 3/4 open
Hybrid Tea - usually have one flower to a stem with
side buds
Floribunda - usually have a spray of bloom at the
end of a cane.
Grandiflora - are between the hybrid teas and the
floribunda in flower pattern
Shrubs, Climbers, Miniature & Old Garden Roses these types have become intermixed in their breeding
and it is often necessary to look up a reference book
to find out to what type a particular rose belongs.

Foliage - clean, healthy, of good colour.
Condition - all old foliage of blooms to be removed; must
be free from blemish, pest, disease and
damage.
Size plant and pot size should be proper
proportion.
Appearance - all entries should be in clean, attractive
pots.

117. “EGG FACES with GREEN HAIR” Slice the top off
a hard boiled egg, clean out the contents of the
shell. Decorate the shell with a face and fill with
potting soil sprinkle with grass seed . Remember
the seed needs light to grow and water to drink.
Please plant at least 4 weeks before the fair so you
have a good crop of hair. Display in egg cups these
can be made from paper dixie cups.
