DATABASE COORDINATOR
(Geographic Information Systems)
Central Arkansas Water (CAW), located in the heart of Arkansas and serving the Little
Rock-North Little Rock Metropolitan area, is currently seeking a highly motivated and
skilled professional to join our team as our Database Coordinator.
CAW is the largest public drinking water system in the state of Arkansas, providing a
population of over 388,000 with exceptional water and outstanding service. CAW was
formed in 2001 through the unique merger of two individual municipal utilities, which
together have received the prestigious Environmental Excellence Award on five different
occasions by the EPA, as well as the Gold Award for Competitiveness Achievement by the
Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, America’s Crown Communities Award by
the National League of Cities, the Sierra Club of Arkansas Outstanding Public Agency of
the Year, and the ESRI Special Achievement in GIS Award.
Central Arkansas is the center for government, finance and business in the state, with
Little Rock, the capitol, ranking “31st Best Place in America for Careers and Business 2007” by Forbes Magazine. The Clinton Presidential Library, Arkansas Arts Center,
Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Wildwood Park for the Performing Arts, Arkansas
Travelers Class AA minor league baseball, Arkansas Rim Rockers basketball, Arkansas
Twisters arena football, Little Rock Zoo, IMAX, and Aerospace Education Center truly

central Arkansas area.
The Database Coordinator is a key position that provides, implements, maintains, and
optimizes use of secure databases for our geographic information systems; ensures integrity
and proper functionality of data warehouse; coordinates user application needs with
database design and system architecture; assists users in use of data warehouse interfaces;
obtains and maintains expertise in company data sources; maintains file, database and
application servers; compiles and maintains computer files and records; and enters, queries,
retrieves and plots system data.
Applicant must have a Bachelor degree in Geography, Computer Science or equivalent
degree, plus one (1) year experience with MS SQL Server administration, including
knowledge of ArcSDE. [Six years of related work experience, as determined by CAW, may
be substituted for degree].
The position also requires knowledge of relational database software on Microsoft
Windows Server platform; relational database programming with Structured Query
Language (SQL); Microsoft Windows OS; Microsoft Access; Microsoft SQL Server or
similar RDBMS; use of data processing systems and equipment. Knowledge of system
software concepts, design and analysis; limitations and use of data processing systems and
equipment; structured query language tools; and database techniques also required.
Each applicant must have the ability to design relational database structures; analyze data
structure requirements and recommend solutions; think through a logical sequence of
necessary events in terms of computer language to produce desired end product; interpret
and translate non-technical user needs into proper network and system specifications;
understand and take advantage of the complex relationships between hardware, operating
software, application programs and network environment; communicate effectively, both
orally and in writing; and produce diagnostic reports using SQL tools.
