5 PRODACAPO REPORTING DATA MART
Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart is an ABM data mart designed for reporting purposes.
The Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart can be installed on all supported database servers
except Microsoft SQL Server 2005. When using the Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart you
cannot use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for either the Prodacapo database or the
Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart. See Supported Database Servers for information about
supported database versions. The Reporting Data Mart must also use the same database
platform as the Prodacapo database, i.e. either Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
There are two options for installing the Reporting Data Mart: Standard and Enterprise.
The standard option can be installed on any supported database server edition. The
Enterprise option requires one of the following database server editions, and utilises
additional database functionality such as partitioning to reduce loading times and
database size.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 Developer, Enterprise or DataCenter
Editions. Please note that the Developer Edition does not allow databases to be
used in a production environment, only for testing and development.

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition.

Oracle Enterprise Edition with the Partition option.
The Enterprise edition is highly recommended for large Reporting Data Marts.
Since the Reporting Data Mart works by splitting information such as costs on multiple
dimensions, a moderately sized Prodacapo database can produce a much larger
Reporting Data Mart, depending on how the Prodacapo model is built. Large data
volumes require a more powerful system with more CPU, memory resources and better
disk performance, in addition to sufficient disk space for storing the database,
temporary database/table space and transaction log/undo table space/redo log. For
example, running the Reporting Data Mart and Power Analytics IMA on a laptop may not
be possible depending on the data volumes. If possible use the same database server for
the Prodacapo database and the Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart to avoid data transfer
over the network.
On Microsoft SQL Server, the Standard version of the reporting data mart may require
significantly more transaction log space compared to the Enterprise version.

6 PRODACAPO POWER ANALYTICS IMA
Prodacapo Power Analytics (IMA) is an optional add-on product that makes advanced
analysis and reporting easy. It extends the analysis and reporting options in the
Prodacapo ABC/M software and offers on-line analytical processing (IMA) capabilities
for fast multi-dimensional analysis.
By using Prodacapo Power Analytics (IMA), users can quickly and easily slice-and-dice,
drill down and analyze profitability and cost data in different dimensions. They can
choose from pre-defined reports or create their own. It's easy to change charts, grids, or
reports with the click of a mouse. Users do not need to understand databases or query
languages.
Power Analytics IMA for Prodacapo requires Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart and
QlikView Server 10.0 or QlikView Server 11.0. Also, see the section Virtualization
Support for information about running Prodacapo Power Analytics IMA in a virtual
environment.

The system requirements for QlikView can be downloaded from the QlikView
website.

7 SUPPORTED DATABASE SERVERS
Prodacapo support the following edition of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database.


Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008 R2 and 2012. For all versions both 32-bit and
64-bit editions are supported. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is not supported when
using the Prodacapo Reporting Data Mart. This applies to both the Prodacapo and
the Reporting Data Mart database.

Minimum 1 GB RAM, 4 GB or more recommended

Minimum 6 GB free disk space.

SQL Server 2005 (all editions) requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2 and
Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 or later.

SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 require Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
SP1, Windows Installer 4.5 and Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 or later.

SQL Server 2012 requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 4,
Windows Installer 4.5 and Internet Explorer 7 or later

The SQL Server instance must be set to “SQL Server and Windows
authentication mode” a.k.a. “Mixed Mode” to allow SQL Server logins.
Oracle 11.2

Minimum 1 GB RAM, 4 GB or more recommended.

Minimum 5 GB free disk space recommended.

The database server can run on any platform supported by Oracle, e.g.
Windows, Linux or Solaris.
7.1 DATABASE CLIENT SOFTWARE
Any application server or web application server accessing the database must have 32bit database client software for the database server installed, regardless if the
application server is a 32-bit or 64-bit system.
If the application server is a 64-bit system, 64-bit database client software must be
installed as well as the 32-bit client software. On a 64-bit Windows edition, the 64-bit
version of certain components will be installed by default for Prodacapo to be able to
fully utilise the increased address space available on a 64-bit Windows operating
systems. This will allow Prodacapo to use more available memory during calculation to
increase calculation performance.
If a 64-bit version of Power Analytics IMA is installed, it requires a 64-bit Oracle client
with OleDB support enabled. A 32-bit client is still required for the Prodacapo
application server software if it is installed on the same machine.
If the database server is Microsoft SQL Server it is also required to install the SQL Server
Native Client on the application server if it is not the same server as the database server
(this is not required on the web application server). The version of Microsoft SQL Server
decides what client the need to be installed on the application server. The platform of
the application server decides if the 32-bit or 64-bit installer package should be installed.
Please note that the 64-bit installer package also contains the 32-bit client.
Installer packages for the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client can be downloaded from
Microsoft.

Note: Requirements above are minimum requirements for database servers; depending on
estimated data volume the requirements may increase.
7.2 LANGUAGE AND COLLATION SETTINGS
The database server must have the correct collation or language set to allow data to be
entered using national characters. E.g. to be able to enter Greek characters, the
database collation/language must support Greek characters. See the document
Database Configuration for more information.

8 VIRTUALIZATION SUPPORT
It is possible to run all parts of Prodacapo on virtual servers, as long as the virtual servers
fulfil the system requirements for the respective Prodacapo component.
If the database is run on a virtual server it is very important that the disk configuration is
setup to give good disk performance. Please refer to the database vendor’s installation
instructions for more information.
Prodacapo Power Analytics IMA use QlikView from QlikTech as a 3rd party component.
These are the comments from QlikTech regarding running QlikView in a virtual
environment.
QlikView works fine in virtual environments, but might not deliver the full potential
because of the way the QlikView core works with hardware and resources. A virtual
QlikView Server under heavy pressure will probably not perform as well as a physical
machine would have done. There are a couple of reasons, but the main point is that
QlikView’s sometimes poor performance on virtual environments does not inherit from
poor QlikView design, but merely from the fact that the general idea of platform
virtualization works in the opposite way of QlikView’s architecture.
Virtualization aims at sharing and over committing resource between multiple guest
systems to optimize hardware usage, which does not benefit QlikView, whom needs
dedicated CPU memory resource to deliver the user experience that a QlikView system
enables.
Virtualization also has a bridge, and subsequently an overhead, between the real
hardware and the applications, which also will not benefit from QlikView’s real-time
need of dedicated resources.
In test scenarios and smaller implementations QlikView will work just fine, but when you
need the best performance, virtualization is not yet an option. If running QlikView in
virtual environments, make sure not to over commit CPU, not share resources and do
not use memory ballooning. Optimize disk usage and use a hypervisor that is as close to
the bare metal as possible, for example VMware ESX.

9 CITRIX AND TERMINAL SERVICES SUPPORT
All parts of Prodacapo can be installed and run in Citrix or Terminal Services
environment as long as the environment fulfil the system requirements for the
respective Prodacapo component.
Ensure that the installation of the Prodacapo component is done correctly in "Install
Mode". This will ensure that Prodacapo is configured to be run by all users of the server.
